Tribal dressing at work?

Does any of you gals ever wear any (part) of your tribal outfits on a daily basis?

I have found myself wearing long flowing skirts (type broomstick or tiered) and some of the jewellery to work. And harem pants are fashionable here now, so whenever it actually gets warm I will give that a go as well.

So, what about you?

I was reading about harem pants being popular because MC hammer seems to be back on the scene and his hammer pants are actually harem pants. As for the skirts.. i live in Oregon.. the land of groovy and organic. . Everyone wears long flowing skirts, many with Birchestocks and knee socks and long flowing undied grey hair.. Those of us who are not quite hard core use deoderant and shave our pits... come visit!!!

really it happens a lot .. maybe not full on tribal.. but long flowing skirts.. oh ya.. especially in Eugene.. i wore long flowing skirts in Portland and fit right in.. and i do it here in the conservative south of Oregon and i'm not at all alone... i don't think its that unusual really in most parts of the US.. that people wear long skirts and peasant blouses and big jewelry.. Where are the other oregon people .. back me up here Angelia.. Devi..

ya... she isn't exaggerating one bit! LOL

Eugene is full of "hippy" type people Lots of tribal dancers, so there is lots of tribal jewlery and hair and more! Dont know much about portland, though when I hit the farmer's market it was full of long skirts...

Oregon is pretty diverse, and many people do the skirts... and those of us who arent so radical DO wear deodorant and shave pits and legs.

          There are lots that dont.

I think its the rain... it makes brains moosh... LOL

Since I don't work outside the home I get to wear what I want and I love to wear my bracelets. I have about 15 bangles and I will wear one or all of them depending on where we are going. I also love to put on my long flowing skirts. I love to wear skirts to the park, because they puff out around me when I sit down. And If I feel the urge to dance that's great too. -Freya

I teach high school art, so I can "get away" with wearing "artsy" stuff. I wear pesant skirts sometimes, but mostly it's the kuchi stuff that I wear...big necklaces, earings, rings...I've worn ankle bracelets with the bells on them over my boots, and I wear hair sticks. The kids have gotten to the point where they want to know from what region in the world each piece comes from, and they LOVE the porcupine quills in the hair.

That's awesome..I wish my art teacher in high school had been like that, instead she turned me off from art, atleast the drawing aspect of it.

Ok, that just sucks :( This post makes me very sad and reminds me of my one big goal as an art teacher....they may never be an artist, but they are going to enjoy themselves while they are with me and end up with something they are pleased with....even if it is just a tiny part of the pic...

I don't, much. I'd love to, but most of my fave jewelry I'm far too paranoid about breaking/losing/damaging. I will wear my big earrings, since I don't have any that are irreplaceable, but I do tend to lose and wreck them by doing so. If I'd had tribal gear back when I was a teenager I'd have worn cholis 24/7 as I didn't voluntarily cover my bellybutton for about 5 years straight... but my middle's a bit, ah, softer than it was back then, and the fashion for showing off you abs has gone away, too (probably a good thing, really). I do have a lovely tiered skirt I wear from time to time, but it's a regular skirt not a full tribal one.

well, i have always worn long flowy skirts, and i do wear my tribal jewelry for everyday. don't really like harem pants, even for dancing, so i can't see myself wearing those in public, no matter how "fashionable" they become!

I always have to wear a solid dark (contrasting with skin color) top at work, I'm a Video Relay Interpreter for the Deaf, but, my co-workers know me as the girl with the crazy bottoms. I'm like an outfit mullet...all business up top, all party waist down...

I wear harem pants under my skirts or long dresses, especially when it's chilly. They add warmth and modesty without the hassle of a slip.

I wear my long skirts (normal broomstick type, not 10-yard flying skirts), jewelry, and lots of scarves. I don't do it every day, but I feel wierd if I look too normal for too long.

last weekend i was wearing a skirt that has a big band of sequins all along the bottom and a top that also has some beadwork and a few sequins. i was going outside to check the mail and our neighbor was outside and asked me if that was one of my bellydance costumes. i kind of laughed and said, "nope! this is me! this is how i normally dress!"

I'm not so into the *tribal* as I am comfort and practicality ((you'll most likely find me wearing jeans.)). I occasionally wear long flowing skirts to work and have a few that aren't 10-yarders. I won't wear the really *good* ones 'cause I roll over the hem with my chair and since I work at (2) desks and am constantly back-n-forth, the potential for damage is too great.

I wear narrow-cut pantaloons under my skirts in the wintertime....but usually with boots and pull the elastic of the pantaloons up to, or tucked in to, the top of the boots. My favorite wintertime work *dress-up* is a skirt/pants combo made from pieces from one of those clothing lines that offers the mix-n-match styling in a stretchy fabric. I attached the waistband of the long a-line skirt to the waistband of the wide-leg pants (with elastic in the cuffs). Nobody seems to notice if the pants peek out from under the skirt. ;-0

Ah yes, I've actually gotten scolded by my sisters for it! lol

Lets see here: I've worn my wide leg dance pants that have "belly dancer" written across the back in sparkles (not so tribal but still), I've worn several of my earrings, a few of my bracelets, my hair sticks, and of course my tribal dancer attitude....I wear that everyday!! =)

I wear a lot of tanks to dance in so thats not anything new for 'outside dance wear

But I generally am outside w/ steel toed boots + hardhat so I don't wear anything 'tribally' or dancerish out in the world... soooo thats for the weekedns, and I wear my wrap pants out a lot- or my big skirts- I love those but a lot of times I go from workout to store or whatever so I'll just leave the skirt on- thats pretty typical. usually make up is my give away- make up and hair cause I'll stack sticks or flowers in it when I get the chance- that makes me happy. =)
