As Tribal Fest nears, I become more and more excited! This year EvilEye BellyDance not only performs, but I'm teaching a workshop AND vending some goodies afterwards on the back deck of the Youth Annex building.
Performance:
Stacey, Azza, Marie and I will be performing our EvilEye ATS set on Friday night at 10:48pm. As Kajira mentioned in an email or somewhere--"proof that ATS is alive and well!". We're sandwiched between Pin-up Girl BellyDance and Princess Farhana. Can you say unruly fun?
Workshop:
Sunday at 11:15-1:15. Don't party too hard on Saturday night! Save yourself for one more day of dancing and shopping! The workshop is not sold out, so stop by and register at the door. Although I've taught at TF in the past, as a member/teacher of Kajira's format for ATS, this is the very first official EvilEye BellyDance workshop at TF--we will be covering "new" material. I will be assisted my members of EvilEye BellyDance.
I'm looking forward to sharing what we've been working on since our inception in Sept of 2006. Everything is geared towards group improv as well as both left and right hip leading (Kajira's biggest contribution to ATS, IMO). If you're not into ATS, the material can easily be adapted to choreography. We've worked hard to include movements not usually found in ATS, but are rooted in traditional/folkloric bellydance and then adapted for use in ATS by adding or changing arm/head/ribcage positioning. Gotta keep that open and uplifted look!
I will cover steps and combinations for slow, medium and fast tempo music with sensible, subtle and easy-to-remember cues. The names of the moves aren't bad, either! I am afflicted with a joy of teaching and a love of words, so I am committed to seeing that attendees not only have a great time, but learn the material in easy to swallow, bite-sized chunks. We WILL be improvising together by the end of class.
Bring finger cymbals! We'll not only go over patterns that correspond to specific steps, but (if there's time) we'll explore improvising with cymbals while we dance. It never stops.
Informal Vending:
I'll be bringing Lori's EvilBazaar to the back deck after the workshop. Take time to paw through my stuff and chat with me about class, dance, life, chewing gum, etc...I'll have all manner of various and sundry items related to bellydance. The more you buy, the better the deal! Everything must go so I can start all over again. (:
See you there!

Sun, May 4, 2008 - 7:33 AMWell, I guess I could've made it an event and posted it to all the hundred or so tribes to which I belong. Then you'd have to scroll past it all day long!
That's very sweet of you to look at my profile, though.
