Albany Community Center presents: American Tribal Style Belly Dance Classes taught by Lori Tawasha.

American Tribal Style Belly Dance can most simply be defined as 2 or more dancers improvising together. ATS is a synchronized group improvisational dance form incorporating steps, music and costuming from India, the Middle East, North Africa, Spain and beyond. This unique form of belly dance celebrates and relies on the bond that forms between dancers allowing us to create synchronized and seamless dances without the use of choreography.

LEVEL 1 CLASS DESCRIPTION: We will work on muscular isolations, traveling steps, shimmies, turns, finger cymbals, slow and fast movements. In addition, we will explore synchronized group improvisation which is the defining aspect of this modern belly dance form. Please wear something along the lines of yoga pants and a tank top so the instructor can see your posture and feet. Hip scarves are ok. Bring a towel or mat to lie on and a bottle of water. If you do not own a set of finger cymbals, loaners will be available in class. No experience necessary.
