The 4th Annual BRC Gathering of the Tribes Council, 2007

Greetings from the bioregion of Elphinstone BC on the Sunshine Coast. This year at Green Man the BRC Gathering of the Tribes Council will return for its 4th year. It is looking like it will be at Ecotopia but not fully dialed in yet. I am sounding a call for collaborators who value the intentions of Gathering of the Tribes and want to keep the torch lit.

What I am especially hoping to find are representatives of what I'll call tribal "guilds" who have a good sense of networks associated with specific dimensions of neotribal culture ie. alternative energy, alternative economics, conscious Vj's, permaculture, arts and activism, film etc to commit to being there and helping generate worthy content and follow up to this years council.

In the past 3 councils there have been heaps of input and participation but the weak link is the ability to make use of it all afterwards. I would therefore like to make a more solid alliance in advance of representatives and work in tandem with the most activated communities and projects that might be ready to in essence, federate. My hope is by sounding this out now that those people can be as agents throughout the summer festival season keeping tuned and building the energies all season long.

Speaking of building energies, I am also very interested in the lead into the council itself. As a neotribal culture and as Burners, what would a council lead in procession look like to you? If there's a way you can see yourself calling in the council in some way with the kind of fanfare this deserves please let me know. I am looking for contacts for anyone in any cool marching bands, kodo drummers, hoopers, Mutant Vehicles with megaphones- anyone who can draw people and spread the word at the same time especially to those who don't read the Who What Where When guide.

If you're down or want to investigate these notions further for the synergistic destiny of our neotribal movement please contact me directly.

All is filled with love,

Official Release - Invitation to Artists and Inventors

For Immediate Release
May 1 – July 1, 2007

Deadline for proposals – July 1, 2007	Contact:
Tomas McCabe
Environmental Education Coordinator
510.290.8883 (mobile)
Tomas@BurningMan.com
Environmental Solutions to be On Display at Burning Man 2007
Artists and Inventors Invited to Showcase Emerging Technologies

This summer, Burning Man will hold its twenty-second annual event in the vast and remote Black Rock Desert of Nevada. Forty thousand participants from around the world, including more than 100 journalists, will attend this celebration of creativity. The year's theme, "The Green Man", explores the human relationship to nature, in particular our collective response to global warming, and sets the stage for an unprecedented informational exchange.

In recognition of this unique opportunity, Burning Man is inviting artists, manufacturers, developers, scientists, and inventors, to showcase their emerging environmental technologies at this year’s eight day event, Aug. 27th -Sept 3rd.

At the center of Black Rock City, home to Burning Man, will be the Green Man Pavilion, 30,000 square feet of shaded exhibition space for the display of interactive artistic, scientific and educational models, a “World’s Fair” of cutting edge technologies. Director of Burning Man, Larry Harvey said “Our goal is to create a space where breakthrough ideas and proven technologies addressing environmental issues such as energy production, solid waste management, and remediation of toxic substances, can be displayed and interacted with, against the backdrop of the world’s largest participant-created event. In fact, we believe this exposition may well be the only place in the world where such a wide range of technologies and solutions will be on display in an interactive environment.”

Burning Man has long been recognized as a nexus of ideas, information, and culture, a physical collection of human nodes for interactivity and information exchange. It is a place where artists, innovators, and the media share ideas and network like nowhere else on Earth.

In addition to directly reaching participants and through extensive media coverage, Burning Man will be opened to the world through a unique collaboration with Google, in a virtual 3D version of event called “Burning Man Earth”, which will allow a global audience to experience the Green Man Pavilion.

View full invite at: http://burningman.com/environment/pavilion_invitation.html

For information on how to propose a contribution to the Green Man Pavilion,

**************************************************************************
MORE, EXPLAINED....

Greening the Burn is a grass roots movement coming straight out of
the community and is being supported by the Burning Man Project and its organizers. We hope to raise the awareness of others throughout BRC of the need to clean and green our collective Burning Man experience in order to create a brighter future.

UPDATE FOR 2007: The Burning Man organization is really doing thier best to become more responsible and greening this event, as much as possible for being a temporary city out in the middle of desert with a history of burning things (da man!) and blowing sh*t up. However because of a bunch of concerned citizens we have formed ways for everyone to participate in recognizing the fun and importance of the environment. Thus this year we will Celebrate the GREEN MAN!!

***********************************
MESSAGE TO THEME CAMPS:
GREEN THE BURN
***********************************
The following message is from a new collective of Burning Man brains interested in sustainability. There will bemore infor on the varied projects coming out shortly, however this message has been prepared specifically for you:

()()()()()()()()()()()()()()
-From the Greening the Burn movers and shakers:

We are here to encourage and help. We want to help Theme Camps and individuals alike, to take a few extra steps towards a cleaner and greener BRC. Everyone entering BRC for the 1st time or the 21st time should not only be aware of the Leave No Trace principles but also of the indirect trace that we leave when we don't think green while planning and participating in the Burning Man Project. As a collective of eco-conscious camps, we want to encourage you, as an organized theme camp, to give extra effort this year and consider the impact all of our actions will have before and after Burning Man 2006 and beyond.

()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()

Salvage - Take the extra effort after Burning Man to bring your extra wood and other camp building materials to re-use/salvage centers rather than burning or taking to a dump. The burn platforms are for public burning of art projects not left over wood you don't want anymore and especially not couches, carpet and PVC.

Burnerswithoutborders.org is planning to collect used building
materials and other unwanted camping supplies at the end of the
event. Look for them near 3 o'clock and the Esplanade.

Seek out recycling & salvage centers along your route home. Here are 2 links:

Hey everyone,
I'm working on a project that requires several hundred audio cassette tapes (yes, those clunky objects that held our music in the days before iPods, CDs and .mp3 players).

I know a lot of people have a stash of old tapes in a box in the basement that they've forgotten about. Why not get rid of the tapes and donate 'em to a good cause?! I will recycle the tapes (via true recycling, not downcycling) and use them as part of my upcoming album.

If you or anyone you know is interested, send me an e-mail or visit http://www.myspace.com/glasshopper for more info.

Thanks!

ALL OF THIS IS POSTED ON THE WIKI, 2ND ITEM "SUGGESTIONS FOR NEXT YEAR"
LINK: wiki.evolutionarycenter.net/w/Ma..._YEAR
*Please add your suggestions there as well for documentation purposes, and learn more about the camp there :)

SUGGESTIONS FOR NEXT YEAR

Eco- Camp Notes for next year….

1. Core teams for projects- check list for follow through 0 that was the major down fall of this last year, follow through.

2. more team communication

3. each pod is responsible for a project on the playa (is: kitchen, grey water, evaporation station, shade, dome/ gathering place, recycling, green resource center, workshops, collaborations, website, communications, planning teams, power- solar, generators, wind turbines, showers)

4. or Each pod is responsible for their own water, shade, planning, and food. ( have parameters on how much trash & recycling can be brought out!)

5. Solar Lighted pathways

6. More signage/ easier communication

7. Compost into tubs- not bags

8. More displays and info in the green resource center. Signs that say we are 100% energy autonomous.

9. Larger grey water area…. Each pos makes their own grey water/ evaporation stations (need a website for designs/ ideas- or use the wiki & E- Playa)

10. Great kitchen- keep it on!! – However sundown is not a good time for dinner- sooner is better

11. Keep in touch with Earth Guardians and be on the LNT model camp tour again (Leave No Trace tour). Check out their camp set-up- great grey water and shade structure/ pavilion made out of wood & Alternative Energy Zone- great solar lighted pathways & camping outline.

12. Spot Volunteers: a volunteer for just 5 minutes, a great way to call out for a quick helping hand.

13. Bicycle racks/parking area.

(From Eartha Harris) 10/2/06
Hello fellow evolutionaries!
It has been such a great experience to camp with all of you. Bringing together like-spirited individuals on the path of positive evolution has been very important to me for many many years, and I think I can only truly convey how excited I was in finding out about Evolutionary Center by saying that this was my first year at Burning Man -specifically- because of this camp and the incredible space that it has opened up for future positive (and future-positive!) manifestations. I learned so much from watching this camp come to life from our ideas, and I can't wait to see all the new ways that our imagination can materialize next year on the foundation that we are continuing to build.

That said, when I first heard of EC, prior to arriving on the Playa, I had many daydreams for things that could be created within such a space. After learning from the process of us building and contributing to the camp, I am even more excited about seeing new ways we can further our theme for the years to come. In particular, more ways to show the world how we not only survive, but thrive and fully flourish while living green. So... I would like to throw some of these ideas out to this list for discussion, as well as hear what other new ideas might be lurking out there waiting to come through.

Working from our foundation of sustainability, I feel we can best show how we thrive by making Evolutionary Center even more of a destination, attraction, and hub of information connecting all aspects of evolving in all realms - and in a way that everyone at Burning Man will be drawn to. So I started thinking about the range of lifestyles I saw attending Burning Man and what we could create within our camp that could be of interest to everyone - from young teenage ravers, to reclusive artists, visionaries, old-school burners, families, and everything in between. I've come up with multiple ideas - some of which are new to the camp, and some of which are progressions on ideas that manifested this year. I’m probably not the only person to have thought of some these, so I would love to hear any and all thoughts out there - yays and nays alike...

IDEA #1 Evolving Rocks!
No, I'm not talking erosion or plate tectonics - I'm talking music! That's right - rock n' roll, trance n' techno, world n' new age, classical, all of it...live and dj'ed alike. Music is a medium that connects all people, draws all people, and there is alot of it that even comes from, expresses, and brings listeners to a place of higher consciousness. What new ways can we bring music more into the camp? Can we throw an Evolutionary Rave? How can we develop a place, perhaps an "Evolving Stage" or "A Stage of Evolution" (play on words intended ;) ) for live musicians to perform, and for people to give talks at? And how can we fuel such places and events at night - including lights and turn tables and amps and all other electronics - in an environmentally responsible/renewable way?

IDEA#2 Evolving Library / Gallery / Workshop space
One comment I heard a lot at camp was that many of us wished that there were more common-areas. This thought I had addresses that idea....
During a few of the really hot afternoons on the playa, I had to break mid-day and duck into my tent (this was pre-shade structure). I brought a couple of books with me that I had assumed I would be too busy and distracted to read, but I was reading them during those times. I even pondered the idea of leaving them in the communal areas of the camp as both books were very much aligned with our collective interests. I remember also thinking how cool it would be to see what books inspired the minds of other people in our camp. I decided not to leave my books out because I was worried that I might forget them or lose them - BUT! What if everyone in our camp were to contribute literature - either in book form with their names and contact info (but that they were willing to take the chance of parting with just incase), or in book form as a permanent donation to an Evolutionary Library, or as printed copies in a binder - printed either from the internet, or photocopied (for all non-copywritten material or material personally ok'ed by author). Obviously, books that relate to the Evolution theme, or that personally inspired an individual’s evolution (fiction, non-fiction, historical, scientific, religious/spiritual, etc) should probably be the theme of the library.

And, perhaps this is going out on a limb, but what if we contacted some of the authors of these books and told them about what we are doing to see if they would be interested in contributing some of their work to this library? Or even coming to the Evolutionary Center and giving a talk, or hosting a workshop?

Disassembleable bookshelves would be easy to make (like Taylor’s no-nails-needed Playa loveseats that some of us saw). Throw down a ton of pillows, and perhaps some low tables, in a big structure for shade (like our dome this year or even bigger), and we have a great place for people of all ages to go to cool down and relax, have a moment of slightly more solitary time, meet like-minded folk, participate in workshops, give discussions, and read a bulletin board/posters/flyers etc to find out about other connected/related activities and events in other camps. This could also be a place for visual artists within or connected to our camp to have their work up on display - like a gallery space. It would also help to make EC for of a hub for information.

COMMENT FROM KACHINA KATRINA: WE HAD EASY ASSEMBLY SHELVING IN THE GREEN RESOURCE DOME- MORE LITATURE AND MATERIALS COULD HAVE GONE ON THOSE IF PEOPLE BROUGHT STUFF- HOWEVER SOME PEOPLE TURNED ALL THE EXTRA SHELVING SPACE INTO ALTARS- WHICH WERE NICE, HOWEVER NOT THE ORIGIONAL INTENTION- SO BE AWARE OF HOW PEOPLE WILL GRAB SPACE AND RESOURCES AND USE THEM FOR OTHER THINGS. JUST LIKE THE TOOLS. A LOT ARE MISSING! HAVING SOMEONE MANAGE THAT AREA IS A GOOD IDEA.

IDEA #3 Fundraising
And speaking of visual, or rather visionary, art - one of the inspirations for this email came from a visit that Ryan and I made to Entheon Village on the morning after the burn. During our visit, we overheard one of the organizers congratulating the entire camp on how well everything came together, and what a huge jump Entheon Village had taken since last year. Apparently, in 2005, Entheon was smaller than our camp was this year. I recall hearing back in late January that they were concerned that there would not be the funds to even have a camp this year. I was then asked in February by an event coordinator for Alex and Alison if I would like my band to perform at a fundraiser for their camp. I signed up to do it, but the event was moved to a different city, and I did not have the ability to travel due to work. It was apparently a huge success, though – raising, I believe, somewhere around $3000 for the camp. There is a listing for it here pakapaka.org/wp/index.ph...past-events/ and you can read more on their fundraising efforts and goals here entheonvillage.com/members/...topic.php

FROM KK: ALSO GETTING GRANTS FROM BRC AND ECO ORGANIZATIONS/ ORGANIZATIONS IN THE CAMP- THIS INCLUDES IN-KIND DONATIONS.

Date: Jul 24, 2006 3:04 PM
Subject: Re: Fwd: water system for BM camp

Hey all
Matt with divine nourishment here. Sorry I've dropped off the map for awhile. I've been busy with work and life, but now I'm changing gears to Evo Center/ DN logistics guy. I just wanted to let you all know where I'm at.
Currently I'm trying to nail down two things. First I'm looking for large water storage vessels to store our water. Second I'm looking for a Truck/trailer or flatbed truck that's able to haul about 24,000 pounds from reno to the blackrock.
Crystal springs water company in reno has 3 artisan wells in reno as well as a filling facility where we can fill our water vessels.
I'm trying to get in touch with jennifer at crystal springs with not much luck. The last time we talked she mentioned we might be able to borrow an older truck that's just been sitting in their yard. It would need a little adjustment to haul the big tanks, and even with the adjustments, we would be looking at having to have several 500-700 gallon water vessels that can be transported to reno, loaded on the truck and filled while on the truck. That being said, we need to remember that this truck is not a reality as of yet, so if anyone can come up with a flatbed we could easily rock that.

Now the things I can think of that I need some help putting together are the showers, plumbing, pump system, and grey water disposal.

I'm also doing logistics and cooking for the divine nourishment camp (we da ones feeding the camp), and I potentially have a ton of work to do there, so This is a Crew Call. Is there anyone else out there seriously up to helping orginizing the flow of H2O. I'm looking for a GuruGanges here.

Peace and Love
Matt

Do you want a HOT T-SHIRT with the Burn Clean Project logo on it?

Do you want a HOT T-SHIRT with the Burn Clean Project logo on it?
Well then send us one!!! The BCP T-Shirt Drive is collecting cool blank t-shirts, sorting them, and then sending them off to Eugene, Oregon. There, the INCREDIBLE Gabe Shaughnessy has donated his extremely valuable time to hand screenprint 50 shirts and 50-100 patches with the Burn Clean Project logo. This message emblazoned across our chests, sleeves, or bums perhaps, will call attention to one fabulous aspect of the great shift in sustainability consciousness in Black Rock 2006. Not only will you belong to the best club for green fuels on the playa, but everybody else will know it! ^__^
Notes:
I must receive the shirts NO LATER than July 26th. This probably means sending them out by the 20th or 21st.
Please make sure the T-shirts are clean, wearable, and a color other than black (like the mountain) or grass green (like the letters in the logo.) They can also be a shirt other than a T, as long as it is cotton and printable.
Please safety pin a name tag to any items that you would like to have set aside specifically for you and we will have them for you at the BCP Pod in the Evolutionary Center Camp on Monday.
For every one item you'd like set aside for you or a loved one, please send one or more as a donation to the T-Shirt drive. You are welcome to send as many extra T-shirts that you have-we’d love it!
BCP will be paying out of pocket for the shipping, so feel free to slip a couple bucks in there if you want to contribute to that.
Please RSVP and let us know how many T's you sent and when they will arrive so we can gauge how many more we have left to collect.
If you know of anyone who has extra canvas, please send that along as well.
Lastly, if you would like to to print the logo yourself on anything you own, that would be even better and way more DIY-ey! Just email me and I will send you the file.

Make a difference in playa fashion...become a part of the Burn Clean T-Shirt Drive!!!

Leave No Trace- on & off the playa.. help out Exodus after the burn

Please forward to any lists that may be appropriate and inclined to
help. We really need lots of folks to make this work, or just a
handful of really dedicated peeps. I can envision some theme camp
setting up for the day, wearing costumes and providing information on
where appropriate trash facilities are located. Wouldn't this message
be best delivered in person by a tattooed biker wearing a tutu?

--------------------------------------

CONTACT: ray@burningman.com
WHAT: help at rest stop during Exodus
WHEN: right after the burn until Monday night

We need some dedicated volunteers to help educate participants about
the importance of Leave No Trace at the I-80 rest stop in Wadsworth.
Last year during exodus participants left mucho trash at the rest stop.
This year NDOT is threatening to make Burning Man pay a financial bond
before the event to ensure that the rest area will not get trashed. We
need to convince NDOT that we can educate our community NOT to dump
trash at the rest stop.

We're looking for a team of volunteers working in shifts to patrol the
rest stop during Exodus and remind participants that leaving trash here
is unacceptable. We're also looking for one or two people to oversee
this project with respect to scheduling shifts, etc. We need
volunteers from Saturday evening after the burn through Monday night.
Ideally we'd like to have 8-hour shifts with two people each shift.

Are you planning to leave the event early? Got a few hours to spare
before completely returning to the default world? Interested? Pretty
please, would you like to help? Contact ray@burningman.com. Thanks!

Time to 'douse' the Burn? The end to 'business as usual'...

Not to 'rain on the parade' or to be an 'alarmist', just taking a serious look at this issue, but in light of the ever increasing revelation in regards to our ecology and the causes of gas and particulate pollution, perhaps it is time to question the actual need and benefits of BM (all the realistic pros and cons) and focus all the great energy and consciousness that usually goes into the preparation for Burning Man, into year round networking and attention to connecting with the immediate communities on how to come together on downsizing, simplifying, restructuring how we are to sustainably co-exist? It's not about finding a way to be 'green' AND 'sustain' the way one wants to be able to live, but being aware of what is necessary to truly live sustainably with all.

After seeing a NOVA show addressing the relative 'realities' of climate change, I researched on the 'dimming' effect:

Global Dimming
by Anup Shah
This Page Created Saturday, January 15, 2005
(Which means this information is actually older than this)
http://www.globalissues.org/EnvIssues/GlobalWarming/globaldimming.asp
(this was essentially the shows presentation)

(opening statements)

What is global dimming?Fossil fuel use, as well as producing greenhouse gases, creates other by-products. These by-products are also pollutants, such as sulphur dioxide, soot, and ash. These pollutants however, also change the properties of clouds.

Clouds are formed when water droplets are seeded by air-borne particles, such as pollen. Polluted air results in clouds with larger number of droplets than unpolluted clouds. This then makes those clouds more reflexsive. More of the sun's heat and energy is therefore reflected back into space.

This reduction of heat reaching the earth is known as Global Dimming.

Impacts of global dimming: millions already killed by it?Global warming results from the greenhouse effect caused by, amongst other things, excessive amounts of greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere from fossil fuel burning. It would seem then, that the other by-products which cause global dimming may be an ironic saviour.

A deeper look at this, however, shows that unfortunately this is not the case.

Health and environmental effects

The pollutants that lead to global dimming also lead to various human and environmental problems, such as smog, respiratory problems, and acid rain.

The impacts of global dimming itself, however, can be devastating.

Millions from Famines in the Sahel in the 70s and 80s

The death toll that global dimming may have already caused is thought to be massive.

Climatologists studying this phenomenon believe that the reflection of heat have made waters in the northern hemisphere cooler. As a result, less rain has formed in key areas and crucial rainfall has failed to arrive over the Sahel in Northern Africa.

In the 1970s and 1980s, massive famines were caused by failed rains which climatologists had never quite understood why they had failed.

The answers that global dimming models seemed to provide, the documentary noted, has led to a chilling conclusion: “what came out of our exhaust pipes and power stations [from Europe and North America] contributed to the deaths of a million people in Africa, and afflicted 50 million more” with hunger and starvation.

(end opening statements)

Why “wait-and-see” won’t do
http://www.opendemocracy.net/debates/article-6-129-2455.jsp

"Surveys repeatedly show that people simultaneously believe that climate change poses serious risks, and also that it is safe to delay reductions in greenhouse gas emissions to a level sufficient to stabilise atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations, until there is greater evidence that climate change is harmful.

US policymakers, too, argue that it is prudent to 'wait and see' whether climate change will cause substantial economic harm before undertaking policies to substantially reduce emissions.

This wait-and-see attitude is based on simple but serious misconceptions. It grossly underestimates the substantial delays in the climate’s response to the consequences of human emissions ('anthropogenic forcing' – that is, generated by, or the result of, human activity). And it presumes that climate change can be reversed quickly when harm becomes evident."

Puppets from Perverisa, or.... bring the Thai puppeteers to Burning Man......

OK, so we’re having a puppet festival this Saturday at the Café Du Nord. Well, it’s kinda a puppet festival. It’s not nearly as big as the puppet festival that was held in Bangkok in January. But there is a bunch of puppet action. It’s a benefit. We met super cool puppeteers in Bangkok when they did their puppet festival. It was totally cool. With little or no money and puppeteers from 9 countries they did amazing stuff. The organizers of the festival are Thai. Great people. Made us feel like kings and queens. Really fun. Super talented marionettes. It was a great experience. I asked them while I was there if there was anything I could do for them, ya know… return the favor. They all said it, kinda in unison: “We want to go to Burning Man!”. They didn’t know my email address, my background or my nothing. To them, I was just a guy playing country guitar in a wild west puppet show. They simply didn’t know. I guess they were kinda kidding. We’re not. We’re gonna raise $11,000 and bring them here. And I’m asking for your help.

To get these guys to come to Burning Man would be an organic, authentic cultural exchange. These people are from another world. Everything is different. Their ideas, their goals, their way of sitting. It’s top to bottom different. It’s kinda better. I’m a huge fan. Spending time with the Thai people was a very healthy thing for me. To try to put it in words would be silly. So I won’t. But forget the actual people or where they are from. Even just the exchange, on the idea level, is huge. Here is a group of people that want to participate in our world. Our all-inclusive scene here is being put to the test: their money is, literally, worthless here.

In Thailand, they were able to provide and facilitate us. They have connections and have a big house and can easily figger things out. Just like we can here. But for them to come here, their money gets devalued 90% or more. Your interest in this project is the only thing that is going to get them here. First, we have to get them Visa’s. It seems like it’s going to be a few hundred dollars EACH for the Visa. For us to go there, it’s like 20 bucks. Plane tickets are like $700. There are 8 of them. A few hundred dollars to ship their puppet stuff. They can stay at my big house, and I’ll take ‘em in my bus to the man, but I need to feed ‘em and take them to the movies and sightseeing and stuff…. Just like they did for us. I’m thinkin’ we need 11 grand…

Traditional Thai shadow puppetry is amazing. If you don’t know about it, your missing out. But they do not do traditional Thai shadow puppets. They do more marionette stuff, but it’s all totally experimental and ‘new’. They are young and full of ideas. My intention is to fly them out, do a few shows here in SF and maybe LA. Bring the whole brood to Burning Man and set up a small theatre for them to perform their puppetry for the good citizens of BRC. Send them home with a few dollars as well. Just like they did for us.

Please attend our benefit show this Saturday or visit our website (www.chickenjohn.com/puppets)
And make a paypal contribution or check back in a few months I will have a wish-list posted on the site to collect things we need to host the Thai’s. If we get all this together we will denote their existence on the playa by the name of the troupe: Kai Doom Doom.

In sincere gratitude and appreciation, Chicken John & Rabbit (Robin Frohardt)

Here is the post for the show:

Project: Pimento!

Puppets have strings. Pianos have strings. Guitars, ukuleles, violins… even tennis racquets & tampons have strings. But not the Theremin! The Theremin is an instrument that achieves it’s tonality but interrupting a magnetic field. Pitch is adjusted by how close your hand is to the antenna. Volume adjusted by another antenna. It’s a weird instrument. You know what it sounds like: Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys features a Theremin. Named after It’s inventor, you will be mystified and mesmerized by Robby Virus as he coaxes the thing to play: lounge music. Backed by a full band, you’ll feel like you in Vegas in the late 60’s but also kinda like in outer space or something. And if it’s not as good as I describe, well… you don’t have to buy their CD. There are simply no strings attached…

_______________________________________________________________

Rube Waddell presents:
O, Rube!,
They will then be presenting again (after a four year hiatus!) the His-story of our patron saint and namesake, Rube Waddell himself, in a production of “O, Rube!”. A tale of the life and untimely death of this mountain of a man, the father of our cause, told in verse and with PUPPETS of our very own construction! Those who were lucky enough to witness this spectacle of our diminutive thespian prowess in the past know enough to not miss this special presentation at the Cafe du Nord in San Francisco. Those others, be you warned.

A trailer for the show can be viewed here: http://rubewaddell.org/trailer/trailer.html

_________________________________________________________________________
Jenny Jo and Clair Mack (Wonder Closet) will present:
Precautionary Tales for the Wild and Naughty
Shel Silverstein poems…. Put to PUPPETS!!!!!!!!!! Nuff said!

__________________________________________________________________
Rabbit (Robin Frohardt) Presents:

I propose we re-cycle the tesseract/hypercube from Brane Village last year -- cover sides w/white lycra, and project onto it -- at night, obviously! -- images of trees from all different cultures & times. Counterpoint between rectangulairty of the hypercube and organic forms of the trees. . . pool(s) & fountain at bottom of hypercube, a spiral labyrinth around it, all in center of Hope Village courtyard. Ideallly we'd have projections, video & slide, from all 4 sides.

Might be some engineering trix for wind-mitigation.

I would want to reserve maybe Thursday & Friday nights to facilitate specific ritual/performance around this, and anyone else could use the other nights however they wanted. I assume Elonifer will be interested in helping to choreograph / facilitate some of this--he was already developing stuff for JTree Music Fest, . . . we may be able to do a test-run of these ideas there, May 19-21.

Also, if there are extra domes available, I'm interested in using a 20'-30' dome for the "MonkeyGoBoom" base on the playa, workshops during day, live music at night.

What it's all about

Hello!! thanks for participating in connecting the dots. I look forward to what we all create together!

The main object for this dialogue is:

1. To have the green burners SHARE RESOURCES so people can collaborate
and share materials out on the playa and not work so hard at trying to
be green/ living off the grid. Each person has something to bring to the table- (advise,
expertise, resources, etc.)

2.Through communication we can work together more to create a unified
force for the world we want to live in.

3. Create a Village where we all camp in proximity to each other to
share materials and resources. (that is what HOPE Village is)

4. Share workshop ideas/space. Earth Guardian's has a great stage for workshops and education. Work with what we have- yeah!

SHARING RESOURCES:
A great process I know of is a searchable resources directory guide
on-line (prior to) where people post their NEEDS,RESOURCES, and
SKILLS.

EXAMPLE: Kachina Katrina
NEED of resources for living off the grid and want to connect people
and educational theme camps who are skilled at doing so/ resources
abundant
RESOURCES: lots of connections to people in permaculture and
sustainability movements.
SKILLS: Great organizer and networker. Artist, creative collaborator

We can adapt this resource directory guide for the Earth Guardians
website under green burners- (which is still being built, the word will get out as soon as it is up and running)

*For now an example of this can be found on the website: www.OneLux.net -under directories.

On the playa we can have poster boards up with the needs and resources that arise, and locations of campers.

WEBSITE:
It is essential that we have information up on the website. We need a team to work on this. The BM web team is supportive of this endevor, so creating an outline of what we want to express in a simpliy and effectively. There is also the Earth Guardians website, with great information and place holders for spreading the word including workshops that inspires people to learn more about the land and impact we have on the planet.

...and address issues in a comprehensive manner such as theToxins- very informative. Thus the placeholders are already there. let's work together so people don't get burnt out and really get energized off eachother.

Another great project:

COMMUNITY RESOURCES:- online directory-->
I agree with you on emphasis is reuse of materials for camps - like
wood - We can give resources for different major cities that re-use
wood/materials as
well like the Rebuilding Center in Portland, OR
( www.rebuildingcenter.org) - have links on the Burning Man website.

Let's schedule a conference call or
lay out the best method for communication. How does a Sunday work for
any of you. I can set-up a conference call, please let me know of next
Sunday works. I want to honor what has been done and bring some fresh
blood into making things happen. Thanks for sharing your
accomplishments, and let's build upon them!! Please send me people who would be interested in this for the master data base.

Let's talk soon!!
