I guess I've gotta kick this off myself.

Ran into Daniel P @ Burning Man last year, we found ourselves quite on the same page; post-BM Mike Shields found the METACINE brochure, told me about it, I went to the site, realized Daniel was involved; various communications over the months, and two long-brainstorming dinners ensued last week; I accepted Daniel's nomination to be "Associate Editor".

So I took the initiative to create this Tribe as an interface to a wider net of collaborators/contributors out there; there is also a forum where a lot of this dialogue was started at breakingopenthehead.com.

METACINE is a close approximation of something I've been envisioning since the mid-90s; but for some reason never tried to pull off on my own. Seems like the right thing at the right time.

Currently this Tribe is a private, invite-only Tribe. Shall we keep it that way for now? Does that make sense?

Hopefully those that've been invited will begin to participate and we can then see if that makes for enough energy buzzing around in here. (My feeling is that we'll ultimately benefit by being inclusive and that that's, anyway, more in line with the magazine's mission.)

I've been talking with Daniel about this kind of project for a couple years with my intention having to do with mainstreaming ideas that have otherwise been marginalized. I think it's important that these ideas are presented in a fresh palatable way -- humorous & dynamic -- as well as in a context that attracts those not normally drawn to the publication's main content.

I think the Tribe should be open: I see it as a way of reaching out to the Tribe network and directing them towards the official Metacine boards which will be up shortly (which should be the focus).

What's the argument behind it being invite-only?

Maybe it should be open. Right now people can only be invited on by the moderator, ie, me. Which doesn't feel right.

There's not really any superstrong argument for being private/invite-only. I think it had something to do with this still being in the early stages, and a process / collective not having clearly crystallized yet.

But actually I don't have anything against opening it up. I think the admin controls allow one to change the status. How about a vote, folks who are already on here?

FUCK Tribe. I think we should exploit the infidels & divvy-up the booty among ourselves.

          (Haha.)

          Let's open it up.

Oh, & if there will be full-blown forums on the Metacine site, then yeah, why not make this more of virtual party-zone for the meta-cineastes.

Rob, can you remind me what other reasons we had for making this private?

[More evidence that 20 years of brain experimentation CAN induce memory-loss! ;-) ]

I don't know. My guess is that you were rightfully erring on the side of caution. (The official, extra-Metacine forums are still private -- for myriad reasons.) Is this not, though, public to the extent that anyone can view, if not contribute to, its contents?

Oh...well, regardless -- I still don't see any shortfall in it becoming visible. Are there any other folks actually on the magazine who haven't voted? How do you feel about it, Michael?
              • .... ok. look at it as creating a nervous system or an immume system...autopoiesis...all the components of the system are personally brought in one atom or molecule at a time , one on one processing ... each component is "examined" by the "receptor" site!
The idea is to model biology ....a way to generate a "Self" an
unique Idenity or a new species....

The old top down system of running Media systems non biologically has
got us into the global social mess we're in ....it's so bad that all
those systems are prohibiting corrective upgrade s from being known about; stopping information flow is the essence of a old "religions",
                economic and political theories

it's way beyond "private" vs. "public". One point of this Tribe
software is to play & experiment with 6 degree's of separation theory- a biological "democratic" model ...and to avoid the downside of anonymous mass media , the hierarchy or top down monarchy/dicatator model we're trying to escape from..

keeping it "private" will not stop the network from expanding expontenially...

Mass media also generate causaties & lone nuts...also mass media is not responsible for any of the effects is generates.. Check out the
death rate from 1900 to yesterday from all the wars ....

Six degrees of separation ...maybe all the books in the last 10 years on
cellular automata, autopoiesis, should be reviewed before "We" go
                "public" ...

hey! this is my first Tribe post. I have been almost frightened at the prospect of introducing Tribe into my life, but Cinammon Twist has cajoled me here. I am one "founding father" of the Metacine project, an intangible empire that may soon become more tangible. I am a writer and editor, author most notably of the book "Breaking Open the Head." My vision of Metacine is to take ideas from my last and my new book, the bioneers conference, and Burning Man and smoosh them together until we have created a new social paradigm. I recently quit coffee and cigarettes, and find myself less jittery. I look forward to accelerating fractal evolutionary spirals of communality.

Hey: a little introduction. I’m part of the editorial team at Metacine. I’ll be doing a bit or writing, but my primary role is to offer an editorial opinion. Like everyone here I believe the time is right for Metacine. I perceive my particular strength as being a bridge between differing voices: I’m psychedelic without being tie-dye, intellectually inclined without being exclusive, Old School spiritual without being a nut.

My background is theological with a theology degree and several years under my belt in editorial with the British & Foreign Bible Society (you try being the only non-Church-goer in a mission agency of several hundred people). I have also worked in editorial with the University of London and the London School of Economics as well as some charity organizations. I also write, mostly now about spirituality and have appeared in places like Spirituality & Health and Fate. I also do some travel stuff such as some of the upcoming edition of “Fodor's New Zealand” and I have also written some salaciously commercial crap which disturbingly has been translated into both Spanish and Portuguese.

Married, with two children I live in rural New Zealand and communicate with the other Metaciners online and via phone, having never met any of them in person. Despite having enough understanding of the publishing game to know that most things fail I am quite convinced that Metacine is going to be a winner. Everything is doable, and everything is as it should be.

Looking forward to meeting some of Twist’s friends and allies.

I didn't realize you had two kids, Joseph. So do I. Kind of changes of everything, no?

My first son introduced me to unconditional love & forgiveness, not to mention, um..."God"? The two together form a remorseless, crack-enlightenment squad. Hopefully I'll get it before they lose it...

Rob, you've clearly been up too long: I had a nice message from you when I emailed the Metaciners about the good news of Number Two back in December ;)

It is a rollercoaster ride, for sure.

The group still seemed on the amorphous side at that point and I don't know that I had as clear a sense of the individual players as I do now. Whatever the case may be, I appreciated reading tonight your inclusion of them in describing yourself.

And now I've definitely been up too long.

My secret identity by day is in the technology area of an internet company in Silicon Valley where I slipped in via a random combination of dumb luck, smooth talk and divine grace, several years ago. I'm convinced, incidentally, that my at-the-time very young daughter had also helped actualized that event, partially as a means of her own material self-preservation. My geeky side is more or less at home there but this seems to be evaporating. I am currently undergoing a radical psychospiritual metamorphosis, a transition that may be invisible to most save close family. I remember a time before this when I was a full-time armchair amateur scientist, an explorer of metaphysical states, a Fortean and an unpublished fiction writer. All of the above areas are still valid in my world. Outside of Metacine, my current primary obsession is in the changing of global consciouness and its many facets. I guess one way you could sum me up would be as a self-taught generalist interested in just about everything. I hope to bring further editorial perspective to this project, on top of also helping with technical and project-management areas of developing Metacine's web presence. Several content areas of Metacine intrigue me, mental/spiritual health probably being at the top of the list.
  • one way to use Tribe.net as an experiment in netplaying is to trim off
one's "friends" that one is not "interacting" with, say at least every 14 months, or
"friends" one has not actually ever met live., or friends one can not call
up on the phone and chat with , say at 1pm today.... imagine it like
maintaining your own body...all the atomic/molecular/cellular components
that make up your walking around "body" , or that invariant "self" that we
know each other by.... are all being accounted for in real time>>

    • Greetings all. I am multidimensionally Sobey from the Sunshine Coast and Republik of East Vancouver BC.

I was just thinking today that it feels weird that i am not connected to Daniel Pinchbeck on tribe when i know him in real life and then i discovered that he had in fact joined and this tribe was activated by Cinammon Twist. But of course. So good thing my scorpio powers got me here but now i am truly wondering what is evolving and when i get to submit some shit to evolve..

i got lots of stuff to write on to tag off of where Breaking Open the Head leaves us..

I hope we can all real time council at Black Rock City this year and see how we can impact that arena with some planning in advance..impact it with evolutionary intelligence.

      Check my homefront at www.tribalharmonix.org

btw.. i created Counciltech tribe today for all of you interested in evolving group mind consciousness.

    Hello,
I am an educator currently on leave from teaching high school science in Michigan. While residing in the Santa Cruz area, I've been actively searching for my next 'step' spiritually, philosophically, professionally, geographically. I've spent much time reading, hiking, listening, researching. My interests are renewable energy, alternative educational models which might better suit our most talented yet disenfranchised teens (seems most of our friends could've used an understanding supportive learning environment at that age, non?), transcendence, and the impending paradigm shift that lies in wait lest we only hasten it and infuse it with wisdom, love and humility. I have recently begun reading Daniel's book, '2012', which is having a profound effect upon my inner and outer realities right now. As with many profound experiences, I feel I've been able to bridge some previously daunting gaps in my heart's ability to envision our potential. Thank you, Daniel, for facilitating this corner-turning for me. I feel as though my calling may be to share this perspective and supporting research to high school populations (especially at-risk) under the title The Science of Hope. I don't doubt my ability to make a connection, though I face the current challenge of devising a viable plan of implementation. I'm open to any suggestions, experiences or projects (mine or others) that would augment the synchronous nature of what we are experiencing right now. Looking forward to sharing with you!
    Dan
