We would like to thank everyone who entered the contest to play the show with us at Mighty this Friday in SF. There was an unexpectedly large response and so much good music to choose. You guys did not make our job easy. Without further adieu, the winner is........

SALVA from San Francisco.
ttp://www.myspace.com/salvabeats

This guy is ready to throw down some serious bass. He will be performing from 930-1030 with Buddy Leezle (215 The Freshest Kidz) in the main room so get there early! A special late addition Blingmod from our Montreal fam will be gracing the bassbins as well.

It's been a few months since Evil Breaks has done a bigger party, and we figured we'd come back with something HUGE!!! We can't wait to see what these guys sound like on DNA's amazing sound system, and along with the amazing local support, Visuals by Viberation, and a special surprise guest upstairs, I really don't think you're going to want to miss this.

E.B.'s Dirty little room w/visuals by Viberation:

Lawgiverz (Trigger/Botchit) - UK

Lawgiverz, a.k.a. R-Kidz and Noize, have been dropping audio bombs for the last five years on Botchit & Scarper, Trigger Recordings and more. Lawgiverz have produced, programmed and remixed with a bizarre selection of artists such as Jeff Beck, Dave Stewart and The Human League. They would like you to know that none of this really matters. Just that if you find yourself in front of the Trigger sound system or at DNA during their laptop and turntable set, prepare to be destroyed with a helping of alien love in the Electrobreaks style.

Fine Cut Bodies (Chi Recordings/Record Records) - Budapest

Even though the name Fine Cut Bodies implies more than one person, behind the FCB letters is only one man, Kevin aka Attila Fodor. His musical tastes are extremely broad which is reflected in the musical preferences of *Chi Recordings*, the label he co-founded in 2000. One of the most important taste-maker DJs in Hungary, he has been one of the key DJs/promoters that built up the huge breaks scene in Hungary and he is now starting to build up the world class underground minimal and tech-house scene in Budapest.

As a DJ, Kevin's taste is determined more by his musical attitude than by any specific genre: he looks for music that's experimental but not selfish, interesting but not unlistenable. As a producer, he has released tracks in many genres and is always looking for new sonic adventures. Kevin's tracks have been licensed for numerous compilations and he has collaborated with and remixed for some of the hottest names in electronic music.

Aaron Jae (E.B./XM Radio/Space Cowboys)
Bam (Evil Breaks/ABN)
M.O.D. (Evil Breaks)
Raydeus (Pronoia)

Beat Church hosting the upstairs room:

Lawgiverz (A 2nd Mid-tempo set)

Kitty-D (The Glitch Mob/Beat Church)

We've modified every aspect of this event in the pursuit of making a better night, a better event, a better party... Nothing is sacred. The Experiment. We went with the name because, quite honestly, all the people involved were SO FUCKING EXCITED about the idea that we couldn't contain ourselves, we knew we couldn't think of a great name.

It always circled back on The Experiment. Because that's what it was. Friction and Evan and Flook and NeuroNaut and I and others... we had dreams and ideas and goals and visions. Creatively, we've been making them all come together. But I suspect we need to take another step. I suspect we need to make a stand for our believes. NOTHING IS SACRED. The night, the idea, that's all that matters.

Oh SNAP!!! It's once again fundraiser season, and Aaron Jae, Evinrude, and Robb Green are teaming up to form a new group that plans to bring you a couple of funrazors instead. For our 1st endeavor together we've got Australia's #1 dj comin back to SF for another show, and this time it's goin to be at a little underground spot in SOMA. The venue is on the smaller side, so we will be limiting attendance. You might want to consider showing up early to ensure your entrance to the show.
Kid Kenobi
(Ministry of Sound/The Bump/Cr2) - Australia

He’s Australia’s favourite DJ. Officially. Reigning champion of Australia’s premier DJ poll – the TechnicsInTheMix 50 – for three years running, it’s obvious who’s leading the charge. This poll has only been running for three years, which means Kid Kenobi has so far been the only number one. Voted for by the general public, the results of this poll reflect the feelings of a nation.

The question has come up a few times, so it probably warrants some discussion. What kind of music will you hear at The Experiment?

The short answer is great dance music.

The longer answer is great dance music. Breakbeats, house, electro, tribal, tech, hip-hop, trip-hop, glitch-hop, dubstep, idm, and any other sub-genre of dance music you can think of... is fair game. The people involved in The Experiment are huge fans of music, and wouldn't want to limit ourselves or the artists on the lineup by restricting ourselves to only one small sub-genre.

To help people get a sense of the kind of music they'll hear, we've posted links to a number of sets and samples of the work and performances from a few of the artists who participate in The Experiment. Check the other threads on this tribe, or hit up (and friend up) the profile on myspace ( http://www.myspace.com/experimentsf ). Click and listen - the music is free, and no special registration or anything is required before you can listen to the music.

As for the question of sound, let me say this. The boys in the lab and I take our waveform containment very seriously. Sure, we're speaker junkies, but we aren't without taste. That is, while we appreciate quantity... we believe in quality over quantity. Since all that might sound confusing, we went with both. Lots of good quality sound.

To be more specific... SIDE ROOM SOUND: we've got a great Mackie sound system with four bottoms (subwoofers) and six tops (full range loudspeakers). It fills the room nicely, and enables the artists performing in that room to get the floor moving in any way he or she sees fit. MAIN ROOM SOUND: the house boasts over 20,000 watts of EAW sound. It's true - I've seen all the speakers and all the amps. But the men of science behind The Experiment felt that better equipment was needed in the lab in order to ensure proper waveform containment. So we complement the house system with a full Bag End system from Addictech. That gives us some of the deepest, richest bass you will ever hear, while still preserving the warmth and clarity on the mid-range and high end.

All these systems are monitored closely throughout the night, in order to ensure proper waveform containment and make sure that what you're hearing is indeed the highest quality sound possible.

I hope that answers any questions regarding sound.

This promo mixset is a sampler of the slower stuff I like to play as Tao Jones. It's basically a condensed version of the hour and a half to two hours I normally play. It starts off all chunky and hiphop, gets glitchy, rages it, catches it's breath, and then get's all wobbly in the low end. The last track I probably wouldn't play at an event unless it was really appropriate, but it's one of my favourite songs ever so I thought I'd share it with you.

The Experiment continues! Experiment #3 is, quite simply, one of the main reasons I wanted to get involved in the project to begin with. While the Lawgiverz are hardly a household name, their music and their performance is not to be missed. I first heard/saw them perform about a year and a half ago, and I'm still trying to find words to describe the experience. As a huge music geek/addict, that doesn't happen all that often. In a way, I think they sort of changed my relationship with music somehow. This sort of evolution of music and technology and sound and thought - it was mind-boggling (to say the least). I've seen them a couple times since, and they keep doing it. And like any proper music addict... I'm looking for another fix.

So in May we're bringing R-Kidz and Noize over from the UK to give us a performance as the Lawgiverz. They've got some new material up their sleeves, and I don't doubt their skills have continued to improve. Using computers and CDJ's and turntables and all manner of gadgetry, they'll serve up an amazing array of sound, literally crafting songs and remixing tracks for us, live as part of their performance. We've been working on ideas and designs for the venue and their performance (as well as the ten other artists on the bill... the night is literally *loaded* with top-flight entertainment). May 4th - it's actually an event that's worth traveling to San Francisco for. So mark your calendars and call your travel agents... and prepare for Experiment #3!

I will have a room to rent very soon.

NO PETS, SMOKING or DRUGS.

The townhouse is located at the Lakeville Resort in Petaluma, Ca. It is a well kept community that is adjacent to vineyards and a golf course. There is a small privet gym and five swimming pool and one hot tub. There are also tennis courts and basketball. courts. I am very close to the managers office, gym, two of the pools, hot tub, and the basketball and tennis courts.

The apartment is only a block away from a golf course and near a state historical site and park. It is also close to a city park that is on the Petaluma River. I am just down the road from many vineyards, Kaiser Hospital and a shopping center.

The room you will be renting is 11' 6" x 11' 6". The bedroom is on the top floor. The room has no central lighting but I do have a three-way pole lamp that I have been using. The room has a deep closet with light. The room has one window with blinds. It will face the door/parking side.

The apartment has 1.5 baths. The restroom on the lower level is more of a guest restroom and not much storage for personal things. It only has a commode, mirror and a sink. The up stairs main restroom has a double vanity, large vanity mirror and a side mirror. Bath tube with shower and commode. The vanity has only one drawer and three cabinets. One cabinet and the drawer will be for my use. The other two cabinets will be yours.

The kitchen will be a common area. Assuming you do not have your one pots, pans and dishes you can use mine. PLEASE NOTE SOME OF MY POTS AND PANS ARE $$$ AND WILL NEED TO BE HAND WASHED. Besides that I has a full assortment of kitchen supplies.

I have High Speed DSL. If you wish to use the DSL then well will have to make some arrangements. There is no port in your room. The only solution it to have a wireless router and net card. With a wireless network you can place your computer anywhere in your room. If you have or planning to get a laptop then you may room the apartment and patio.

There is no phone jack in your room. If you would like a phone in your room then I would have to talk to management to get you one. If management will not provide you with one then we will have to work something out.

The patio area is a another common area. I plan to fix it up and add a fire pit and a drum BBQ. A HERB GARDEN IS MOST WELCOME.

The living room is another common area.

The apartment is across the street (on campus) from the laundromat. The management charges $1.25 per standard wash load and $1.50 for super cycle. The dryer is $1.25 per load. You will have to pay for your own laundry. Sorry... it is coin-op and no card and change machine. There is a strip mall near by with a laundromat in case you do not like the ones here.

You must comply with all rules and regulation of the management. NO PETS SMOKING, DRUGS or KIDS. Credit check with management office ($30 fee).

I am asking for first rent and $400 deposit. Plus the pet deposit. Rent will be $600 per month for a six month agreement. Gas, water, sewer, electricity and internet will be included. Cable in the common area. PAY PER VIEW WILL NOT BE INCLUDED. You will be listed a a roommate on the lease with the management. We will have a written agreement.
The purpose of the experiment was to measure the 'dark current' of STEREO-B's CCD detectors. The idea is familiar to amateur astronomers: Point your telescope at something black and see how much 'dark current' trickles out of the CCD. Later, when real astrophotography is taking place, the dark current is subtracted to improve the image.

In this case, the Moon served as a black calibration disk backlit by the sun. "The observation was no accident," she says. Mission controllers arranged the alignment with a small tweak to STEREO-B's orbit last December and engineers have been waiting for the dark current data ever since.

"The images have an alien quality," notes Guhathakurta. "It's not just the strange colors of the sun. Look at the size of the Moon; it's very odd." When we observe a lunar transit from Earth, the Moon appears to be the same size as the sun—a coincidence that produces intoxicatingly beautiful solar eclipses. The silhouette STEREO-B saw, on the other hand, was only a fraction of the sun's diameter. "It's like being in the wrong solar system."

The Moon seems small because of STEREO-B's location. The spacecraft circles the sun in an Earth-like orbit, but it lags behind Earth by one million miles. This means STEREO-B is 4.4 times further from the Moon than we are, and so the Moon looks 4.4 times smaller.

Of course we want you to get there early, so you can catch the performances of all the amazing people we have lined up. But we also want you to participate in our little experiment. Arrive before 11 or in experimental attire, and the cover's only $15. So dig through your closet and see what you can come up with.

You already are different. So dress different.

What is "experimental attire" exactly? We'll leave the interpretation up to you (so long as it's not street clothes).
I always like to get some good photos, but some clubs don't allow it and I don't see a website for them. I hate bringing the cam with me if I have to end up leaving it in the car and the possibility of it getting stolen (thank you END UP!).
