I don't understand why this movie is going direct to dvd. The cast includes Mina Suvari and Ving Rhames. IMO they had adequate star power. I read an article that talked about the low budget the movie was given--again, why!? The Dawn of the Dead remake did very well and received good reviews. So surely there must have been potential for this movie to succeed. Do you guys think it could have been salvaged into a theatrical release?

Re: Day of the Dead Remake
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 10:13 AMI think that though it's one of my favorites, Day of the Dead has the most potential "cheese factor" in a remake. I think that if someone really cared about it rather than just wanting a quick way to make some money, that it could have been salvaged into a theatrical release. But that doesn't seem to be the case with this one. I'm afraid to see it if it's a scene for scene, with a redone Bub type of remake. It will flat out suck that way no matter who's in it.
I think that the Dawn of the Dead remake worked well because they didn't actually remake it. It was "inspired" by the original and taken a new way. That's why I liked it and that's why I think it was successful. -

Re: Day of the Dead Remake
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 9:45 PMI saw it. It's marginally influenced by elements of the original 'Day' and doesn't follow its storyline at all.
If there is anything to be said about 'Day', the movie suffers most in its attempt to be contemporary. It feels as if the studio fiddled about with it too much trying to increase its appeal and it shows. However, the action is entertaining, the direction is competent, and the zombies a few interesting things. It's worth a viewing.
There! Tried not to spoil anything! :) -

Re: Day of the Dead Remake
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 11:17 AMAfter seeing the re-make/re-envisioning of Dawn Of The Dead which I was very pleasently surprised by (In fact it is one of my favorite Zombie Movies to watch nowadays...go figure!! LOL!!), I had high hopes that a Day of The Dead re-make would be an excellent film
Alas....
I have heard SO many really, really, REALLY bad reviews about this movie, plus the fact that it went striaght to DVD? Just confirms how terrible a movie it truely is....it sounds just as bad as the House of The Dead piece of crap that was made a few years back :(
I may check it out one day...like if it is on Cable, it is late at night or I am bored to death...maybe, just maybe then I will -

Re: Day of the Dead Remake
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 4:42 AMHi Archangel,
Don't be disheartened by the poor reviews. It really isn't THAT bad. Sure, it's not EPIC and perspective-altering as 'Dawn 2K', but it holds its own. It is my personal belief that it went straight-to-DVD route because it was quickly becoming too expensive to do damage control with all the second-unit reshoots and test screenings. Save on marketing by releasing it to the direct market and cut the losses. Who knows? Maybe it'll break even.
The way I see it...if they'd released this film as simply a zombie film and not part of the franchise they wished to capitalize upon, it wouldn't have met the wrath of so many critics and viewers.
Trust me...it'll be on cable! :) -

Re: Day of the Dead Remake
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 1:53 AMWatch it and youll clearly see why it went straight to DVD. Oh man its sad. Id have to go as far and say that Day of the Dead 2 Contagium was better then this one. The zombies in this film are just blah. Fast moving, Spider like agility. (One even scampers across the ceiling) Also as soon as you become a zombie in this flick sores magicly and instantaneously appear. CGI is poorly done. Acting isnt to bad on the humans part. Yet At times Ive seen better in Highschool plays, but at others it ok. The DJ's British accent keeps slipping out between the southern drawls. The Zombies acting is horrid. Cheese factor is pretty high. Id really be shocked this film even finds a "cult following" in any means. I tried to like it I really did. I think they should have just shelved it all together. Did I mention the CGI sucks. I mean come on with any budget they could have done better then what they did. Heck lose Ving and use his paycheck to do the CGI half assed. His role in the film is negligible to say the least. I doubt he would be missed. -
