Simple Button help

Hey Script Ninjas,
I'm very new to Flash and the Action Script world. I recently tried this button code:

ButtonTest_btn.addEventListner(MouseEvent.CLICK, Hello World) ;

Function Output (event : MouseEvent) : void ; {

Output_txt.Text =" I did this" ;

What SHOULD have happened is I click on the Hello World button and the out put should say "I did this". What IS happening the button clicks but 1)nothing happens and 2)the word Output is still seen at the bottom of the button and 3)Action Script says the code is right but the compiler is showing alot of different error messages. Script assist isn't too clear to me, anyone know if I'm doing something wrong or is Flash just trippin'? Any help would be great.

can a movieclip created on the fly contain another movieclip?

I am using this script:

for (var i:Number = 0; i < numberOfObjects; i++)
{
this.createEmptyMovieClip("object"+i, i);
this["object"+i].loadMovie("images/bottle"+i+".png");
}

to create a series of movie clips with images. My question is this: if I replaced the .png files with .swf files, could those .swf contain movieclips? If so, how would I reference one of those (say we called it buttonMC)?

can't crop Tribe photo: is this a Flash problem?

There is a bug that's been around for a couple months now: you can no longer crop your selected user icon. I know very little about Flash (or javascript), but, looking at the source code, it looks like either a javascript or flash problem. And Tribe engineers (if they exist) seem to be ignoring this one).

Flash Presentation - US MAP Coverage

Hello fellow Flash designers/developers,

I am a newbie to Flash but have worked in the web development/design industry for almost nine years. I am good with programming but not the best at design (Photoshop, Flash, etc...). I am currently reading a book titled: Flash Professional 8, which is a good book for hands-on training but time consuming. I am almost halfway through the book but now time has become a factor with meeting the deadline for this presentation.

I am unable to find examples of what I need to do next (in my book or via searches on the web). If anyone can help me with this I would so thankful.

I am trying to outline each state border of the united states map. Once I have the outlines completed I need to fill in each state according to whether the state is in network (blue) or out of network (red). Obviously, this needs to be a flash animation (not sure if action scripting is required). Has anyone in this community attempted such a task or seen this done before?

NEW VIDEO SITE - Design feedbacks

Flash Intro - LoadURL or GetURL??

Hello, I am trying to have a Flash intro that launches a specific URL at the end but I can't seem to get it to work after uploading the SWF and HTML files. Does anyone have any suggestions? I created a layer with the keyframe at the end and added the script

loadURL ('http://www.website.com/store', '_self')

The intro works but then stops at a final white screen.

Seeking Specific Flash Animation Tutorial: particles

I finally got around to redesigning my website. I USED to always make sites that would be functional the largest group of people (including 56K modem users and non-flash browsers) But, since 99% of my work is content heavy (quicktime movies, flash games, etc) I'm going to just target broadband users.

With this new design, I created an all-Flash interface. (no HTML pages) And it's Flash 8, so most people will have to upgrade their browsers to get the latest plugin.

Besides that, I think its an improvement from my last site design. Check it out and lemme know if you have any suggestions or problems with the site. Thanks.

Flash newbie seeks advice debugging simple button script

I'm building my first flash file and I simply want to make a button that takes the user from Scene 1 to Scene 2. I followed the help instructions and got the script that is suppose to make it work.

This is what I entered into the action panel:

//This script takes the user to Scene 2 when goScene_btn is released
this.EnterExhibit_btn.onRelease = function (){
gotoAndStop("Scene 2", 1);
};

I use the check script function in the action panel and got a "script has no errors" confirmation.

However when I run the test movie I get this in the output panel:

**Error** Scene=Scene 1, layer=Actions, frame=1:Line 4: Statement must appear within on handler
EnterExhibit_btn.onRelease = function (){

Total ActionScript Errors: 1 Reported Errors: 1

Questions:

1.What am I doing wrong?

2.What does "Statement must appear within on handler" mean?

The button shows up as a button in the property inspector. It was created by the "Convert to Symbol" function and was never any other kind of symbol other than a button.

vector animation

I created a 10 minute short film back in college and the quality is terrible. I thought it would be a fun project to convert the whole movie into animated film -- maybe by using digital rotoscoping like they did in the movie "Waking Life".

I know Flash can convert a bitmap into a vector image, but can it convert a movie file into a vector animation? Do you know of any programs that might be able to achieve this? (either by rotoscoping or converting to vectors) Thanks!
