Was out at the Bulb this early afternoon, in the Ampitheatre, and off to the west we started smelling burned synthetics...... there was a big black cloud of smoke that looked to be spreading fast. We booked it out of there and went around to the outer reaches of the lagoon, where we could see that the "house" that perched on the side of the hill was in flames.
(Side note: anyone know anything about that house? It looked pretty finished with construction material siding, and I know it had a crappy little chimney-- source of the fire, maybe?)
The trees looked to be catching a bit, but it's pretty damp out there this time of year, so I don't think it was too bad. The Albany Fire Department got there and were blundering around, lost on the paths, trying to get a fire truck up there (oy). I showed them the closest, widest path to get near there....but of course, it's the Bulb, and not designed for fire trucks! Heh.
I'll drop a few photos into the tribe album, taken with my camera phone.

Re: Fire at the Bulb!
Mon, April 7, 2008 - 3:22 PMWow, thanks for posting. I don't know anything about the house except that I am pretty sure that I've met the guy that lives there. I hope he is okay. I don't think it actually had siding, but did have insulation...the last time I saw it, anyways. Glad the fire department was able to get a call and respond in a resonable amount of time. -

Mon, April 7, 2008 - 5:34 PMAh, ok, I probably meant insulation....on the sides. <grin>
It's odd that there doesn't seem to be any central online meeting place/message board for the Bulb. The "albany let it be" website is basically a placeholder, and I can't find anything else. Hrm.
