This is normally the time of year that planning for F&F would
be in full swing so naturally I have been thinking about F&F
quite a bit lately.
After pouring blood, sweat, and tears into F&F for 8 years it
felt like last year the event hit a little bit of a wall.
Not so much in the experience of it for those who came to enjoy
the magic. I dare say last years F&F was as special or more so
than any of the previous ones experientially.
But behind the scenes and especially within the most localized
Sunshine Coast community we encountered an unexpected and
rather hurtful backlash against the event. The end result is that
we attracted more people than ever from off the coast to come to
the event, but had a significant drop in attendance from the local
community. Many of whom attended other events that were specifically
planned to compete against F&F, and which were organized by folks I thought
of as our core audience.
I saw this as a sign...
An indication that the time had come to let folks miss it a bit,
or at least to see if they do, and for the organizational team
to recharge their batteries and see how much they miss doing
all the work it takes to make an event like F&F happen. I must say
I do miss it. Quite a bit.
In case anybody ever thought we were in it for the money I can
assure you we weren't. Last year F&F saw a total profit of $12.
And that was only after some folks very kindly and graciously agreed
to take less payment for their involvement than they had originally
been promised.
In case anybody is wondering what the future holds for F&F here
is the big news you've been waiting for................
F&F will NOT be taking place in 2008. It would've been the 9th one
and in numerology 9 represents the "Hermit", so metaphorically
speaking F&F is using it's 9 year to go into "Hermit" mode and refelct
upon where it has been and where it wants to go.
I PROMISE that in 2009 in some way, shape, or form. Be it BIG or small,
That Faeries & Fools will be back to celebrate it's 10th anniversary!!!
Please feel free to spread this news far and wide.
I will make sure the F&F website gets updated soon so there
can be no confusion.
NO F&F 9 in 2008,
BUT.... F&F 10 will be happening in 2009!!!!!
