f&f in 2009!!! - a message from nils

This is normally the time of year that planning for F&F would
be in full swing so naturally I have been thinking about F&F
quite a bit lately.

After pouring blood, sweat, and tears into F&F for 8 years it
felt like last year the event hit a little bit of a wall.
Not so much in the experience of it for those who came to enjoy
the magic. I dare say last years F&F was as special or more so
than any of the previous ones experientially.
But behind the scenes and especially within the most localized
Sunshine Coast community we encountered an unexpected and
rather hurtful backlash against the event. The end result is that
we attracted more people than ever from off the coast to come to
the event, but had a significant drop in attendance from the local
community. Many of whom attended other events that were specifically
planned to compete against F&F, and which were organized by folks I thought
of as our core audience.

I saw this as a sign...

An indication that the time had come to let folks miss it a bit,
or at least to see if they do, and for the organizational team
to recharge their batteries and see how much they miss doing
all the work it takes to make an event like F&F happen. I must say
I do miss it. Quite a bit.

In case anybody ever thought we were in it for the money I can
assure you we weren't. Last year F&F saw a total profit of $12.
And that was only after some folks very kindly and graciously agreed
to take less payment for their involvement than they had originally
been promised.

In case anybody is wondering what the future holds for F&F here
is the big news you've been waiting for................

F&F will NOT be taking place in 2008. It would've been the 9th one
and in numerology 9 represents the "Hermit", so metaphorically
speaking F&F is using it's 9 year to go into "Hermit" mode and refelct
upon where it has been and where it wants to go.

I PROMISE that in 2009 in some way, shape, or form. Be it BIG or small,
That Faeries & Fools will be back to celebrate it's 10th anniversary!!!

Please feel free to spread this news far and wide.

I will make sure the F&F website gets updated soon so there
can be no confusion.

NO F&F 9 in 2008,
BUT.... F&F 10 will be happening in 2009!!!!!

Love,
Nils

Facing what appears to be a spiritual crisis within our community I have chosen to attempt a critical analysis of the current situation on multiple levels and to offer some possible options and ideas that can be practically applied towards a new spiritual / magickal movement within the community.

I have observed numerous cyclical shifts within the larger spiritual movement but for the purposes of clarity and relevance I will direct this analysis at what could collectively be referred to as the spiritual post-rave movement. This movement dovetails into innumerable other cultural realms (new age, hip hop, occult etc) but I believe can be treated as a relatively autonomous entity due to its intensely familial nature and its general ambivalence towards other, or external cultural movements. The roots of rave can be traced back to the acid house days in the late 80's UK. In the early 90's the scene began to evolve towards a more shamanistic and psychedelic group experience, due to the arrival of ecstasy and the intervention of magikally inclined figures such as Genesis.P.Orridge. It continued to grow and expand and gradually the more spiritual element broke off and became an international movement unto itself whilst the rest of rave gradually slid towards commodification and legitimacy (i.e.. Club Culture as we know it). Mid nineties social utopianism and pre-millennial intoxication provided a fertile ground for the new spiritual rave movement to flourish as an underground entity with its emphasis on mass shifts in awareness and new models of community, language and technological integration. Things were looking good, albeit a little bit overly sincere. For some reason the movement grew without establishing a critical faculty or strong awareness of its place in the global paradigm, seeming to instead label most other movements as somehow "Babylonian" (a whole other issue in itself) and outside of the sacred space created within the "family" , thus unworthy of attention. This is obviously not the case in terms of individuals within the community who continued to feed the movement with outside inspiration in subtle ways. None the less, the community seemed to be unable or unwilling to create art or experiences palatable to the outside world, choosing instead to feed the massive gravitational pull of the movement itself in hopes of attracting and initiating outsiders through the creation of a sacred and inclusive atmosphere. Several problems arose:

1: Language: the language of the movement was too direct and "on the nose" as writers say. Something given to readily cannot be properly absorbed by the intended receivers. Spiritual teachings are effectively transmitted by allegory and symbolism, as well as by the energetic state and abilities of the transmitter him/herself. Something told too explicitly bounces of the ego of the receiver as they struggle with their personal identification with the ideas presented and the essential dualism of the human mind. In addition the language employed and the rituals (i.e.. structure and format of presentation) was one of absolute almost pious sincerity, lacking humor, challenge and erotic impulse. This not only turned off innumerable people due to an inability to relate to such sincerity, but also provided fodder for nay sayers and critics.

2: Cultural Appropriation: As the information age swelled into being, the symbol systems of the world became ripe for the plunder. The spirituality of the east, being readily understandable (thanks to the 60's, Star Wars etc) and still relatively exotic, provided a sense of a connection to history and tradition required for the movement. Perhaps due to "white guilt" or the spectacular corruption of christianity western spiritual traditions were considered relatively uninteresting. As the movement progressed some western ideas emerged and became integrated. Tarot and Celtic Pagan themes became accessible yet still were treated as interchangeable masks with minimal respect or care payed to the traditions the symbols arose from or their sheer living potency.

3: Denial: The movement denied and suppressed the chthonic or shadow forces at play within it. This was supposed to be about love, enlightenment and saving the world right? Why focus on all the negativity when "babylon" is constantly shoving it down our throat anyways? The attitude is understandable but only works in conjunction with a clear recognition (and respect for) of all facets of the spectrum. We are still at a dance party, on drugs, often surrounded by people we have intense emotional relations with (admiration, attraction, annoyance etc). Indeed the best way to become something is to act like you are it until you are (i.e.. enlightened, caring, aware) but the demons must be known, named and accounted for. This problem, in particular seems to be the reflexive cause of the current crisis situation.

So where are we now? It seems we have come full circle to embrace all the shadow elements wholeheartedly, although I believe, not consciously. Due to the relative success of certain individuals and endeavors within the scene (most notably music and fashion) the movement grudgingly opened its doors and allowed the outside world in. This influx of energy and new personnel brought with it a temporal window of change where community members were able to escape the dogmas and structures that had arisen. Finally we could all admit that we wanted a drink, wanted to look cool, wanted to get dirty on the dancefloor.
Black became the norm, Cynicism was indulged in like a long awaited exhale. Sounds got glitchy, edgy and rough. A schism seemed to arise at this point where community members chose to either continue with the program of enlightenment, or embrace the cathartic joy of the new school. This is a binary over-simplification, I recognize, but it still serves to illustrate the splitting of priorities of (or purposes) within the movement. We now seem to be at the other end of the pendulums arc. The spirit of the party is the afterthought, the unspoken and perhaps embarrassing sub truth. This is not all bad, as I believe a buried truth grows deep roots and will re-emerge stronger than before.

What to do next? As this movement still contains the essential seed meme of liberation and has built strong familial / emotional connections, I believe it still has value and the potential for global change. I believe by addressing the aforementioned problems and providing possible antidotes the cultural engineers amongst us will be able to empower and revitalize the movements power and effectiveness.

1: New Language: We can no longer tell people what to do or believe. We can only imply through poetic allegory and right action (attained via honest self reflection) a new way. The art we create and the language we use to contextualise it must be accessible, relevant and artistically alluring. Very few are excited by a lengthy and academic exegesis of the structures of taoist thought but everybody wants to watch The Matrix because its cool. This leads into the second possible strategy...

2: New Myths: We must create (or rather re-create) archetypes and stories in a new relevant context. The rituals and stories of old and far away provide powerful transformative and healing experiences for people but can often become separated from daily life and encapsulated in a "spiritual" or "natural" realm, thus empowering the schism of within the western paradigm. If a holistic and global transformation is to be made then every aspect of our life and experience should perhaps be recognized as sacred. Everybody knows the buddha (look around, I bet there is one in the room with you right now) and may think they know his teachings. When his image arises it seems to evoke a sense of comfortable familiarity in many. "Ah yes, spiritual, calm, enlightened, Chill". The image can be invoked often without any crisis arising, on shirts and flyers. The Buddha seems to represent (to the community at least) an end in itself. Completion, enlightenment. I believe a new fundamental myth must be evoked in order to better reflect the lives of people and the global situation. The Heroes Journey of Initiation provides a model of constant growth and transformation. The cycle does not end. 2012 will not bring about a world of endless paradise and perfection. The hero must be constantly vigilant and aware in order to explore and chart the unknown and return with new insight to the world above. As most of us grew up on TV and movies our minds are formed and attuned according to theses modes of mythscaping. By utilizing the tools of the modern worlds storytelling machines we are able to penetrate the subconscious more effectively because these tools or techniques have been absorbed by most of us through our youth. The archetypes are eternal but not unchanging. It is far easier ( i.e.. more fun and digestible) to hear the voice of the initiator when he is cloaked as Morpheus, rather than sitting robed on a throne bellowing at us in latin. The new myths dress up the old in novel and interesting ways without being hung up on the cross of spiritual dogma. If we can evoke the heroes journey through powerful well crafted artworks, those who are ready will hear.

3: A Declaration of Honesty: An individual and collective recognition of all that we are. Sounds flaky and seems near impossible but it is the essence of the work our community is dedicated to. Practically speaking this begins with the individual being willing to observe and explore every aspect of there being and feeling empowered to bring their authentic self into their community. Cynicism is a healthy reaction to a hypocritical, fear worshipping culture but is also a horribly addictive reality tunnel, creating an illusion of superiority in the user. This is not to say we need to revert to the creepy 20 minute enforced eye gazing techniques of yesterday nor the grudging acceptance of all expression regardless of its relevance, grace or beauty (or lack thereof). It means being able to say something is good or that it sucks but being well prepared to say why based on genuine inference in regards to its power and effective transformational abilities and not simply due to cycles of fashion or personal stylistic preference. It doesn't matter if you didn't like the music in the ritual. If it worked, it worked and that is what is important. If it didn't, for the sake of all that we are attempting to do, say something.

All this was written from the perspective of one who wishes to see our community assist in initiating powerful and positive transformations globally. This intention is, I believe, something we all share and part of what makes this movement special and important right now. Im sure there are those who see the current state of the community differently than I and perhaps will bemoan what may seem to an overly critical tone. Restated, my intention is simply to see our efforts as a group develop and succeed. No disrespect or rejection of ideas is intended. This is simply a possible re-contextualisation and re-formating of approaches and techniques that can be employed by all of the brilliant artists within our community for the purpose of mutual evolution and liberation.

Hi folks...

I posted this onto Tribal Hharmonix last week, but I realize alot of you don't frequent the THX forums.
If you want to join THX go to http://www.tribalharmonix.org
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been over two weeks since Faeries & Fools 8 and I am finally ready to delve into my thoughts and feelings.

Firstly and most importantly...
I need to thank a few people.

Erica Snowlake, the original Elphinstone Faerie Goddess. Without her there would never have been a Faeries & Fools to begin with. For many a year she held down the Faerie energy in Roberts Creek at her Juice Bar outside the Gumboot. She was always good for tasty juices and heartfelt conversation. Her and I were sharing a Hot Apple, Lemon, Ginger on a cold February afternoon 8 years ago and bouncing around ideas for a new type of dance event and from that conversation F&F was born. She was integral to the first 4 F&F's before moving to Venice Beach, California.
I miss you Erica. I hope the warm California weather is treating you well.

David Barbarash...
A brother from another mother. David has been absolutely crucial to the success of F&F over the last 3 years. If he were not the special person that he is, and if he was not willing to sacrifice so much of his time, money, and energy Faeries & Fools probably would not have happened this year or last. When working on a project like F&F you really get to know a person and I can honestly say the more I know David the more I love him. Thanks for being you David. It's been a great pleasure working with you.

Steve Ewing & Houston Krohman...
Steve and Houston have been incredibly helpful in navigating the technical realm. Both of them have made a technophobe like me feel comfortable in knowing there was quality people taking care of the technical aspect of things. Steve has been too busy the last couple years to help out so Houston has stepped up and taken care of the technical side of things very well. F&F 7 almost killed Houston who did the work of a small army all by himself, so this year we hired a stellar crew to handle sound, power, lighting etc... and all Houston had to do was act as a liason between the festival and the hired help. Thanks for everything Houston! I know you will be stepping up to organize a big event one day and when you do I will be super happy to help in any way I can.

Jennifer & Cody...
Two amazingly creative and visionary souls who are holding down the space at Crystal Creek, and who over the last few years have been crucial in expanding and co-ordinating the day-time aspect of F&F. The play they starred in at the First F&F held up at Crystal Creek three years ago was truly something special. They have to live with and deal with the post F&F aftermath at Crystal Creek and they have always been very understanding. Thanks guys.

Dhyanna..
The hostess with mostest!!! What can I say about Dhyanna? How about that she is an absolute Goddess who has opened up her sacred property for all of us Faeries & Fools to enjoy over the last few years. More than that she has blessed us with Divinely channelled opening ceremony rituals and her divine presence on the dance-floor.

Trish...
Trish is a pillar of the Sunshine Coast community. She is more than a mother to her kids, she is a mother to ALL the kids who have ever been to Faeries & Fools. All the years F&F was at the hall she would hold down the kitchen vibe and provide safe space and tasty snacks for all. Her family has adopted me as one of their own and for this I am honoured and grateful. The Cloak her and her son Pan made me this year is one I will wear with pride. I love you guys!!!

Sijay...
designed the poster for every F&F except the very first one which my friend Phi Corbett designed. Sijay is a man of many talents and thus is in big demand to be working on various projects at all times. He has always found time to work on the F&F posters and flyers and has dedicated himself to making each one truly special and unique. I have always loved working with him and will have to find new excuses to hang out with him if this does indeed turn out to be the last F&F.

Suez... and all of her amazing visuals crew.
Thanks so much for your great spirit and absolute profesionalism. With Suez at the helm of the lightship I never had to worry about the visual aspect of the event. Having you right there on stage with us this year was awesome. Aside from being super skilled at what she does, Suez is a real sassy dresser and knows how to shake her booty like few others.

KLC, Linda, Ariel, Copper Chris, Ken the Dreamer, and everyone else who helped with decorating, building stages, altars, and generally creating the magickal spaces. You guys are all amazing!!! I know if we had an even bigger budget you guys could take things to the stratosphere but even within limited budgets you all were super inspired and inspiring. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as everyone else did dancing in the sacred spaces you created.

Kaya and Ian for all their work on the website.
Kaya especially... this years site looks amazing. I'm inclined to try find a way to keep it relevant and going even if F&F doesn't happen again.

Demian... for capturing the essence of F&F so well over the last few years. I can hardly wait to see this years video. As in I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!! Any idea when this years vid will be ready for viewing??? Maybe we can organize a viewing of it when it is ready and charge a few bucks which can be used to offset some of the financial losses of this years event. Just a thought. wink

Sundara...
The woman who was crazy enough to marry a man like me who cares so much about community and culture that on way too many days and nights she had to wonder where the hell I was and why I care so much about organizing this event called Faeries & Fools. She was the poster model for F&F 7 and in spite of the fact that our marriage has indeed run its course our friendship is eternal. I will always love you Sundara, you are a beautiful goddess and deserve the best out of life. Thanks for putting up with me.

All the DJ's, Musicians, Circus Performers, Fashion designers, etc...
Way too many to list off who graced us with your skills over the 8 years of F&F.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! YOU ARE ALL AMAZING!!!!
If anybody reading this thread wants to give special props to a dj or other artist who especially touched them over the 8 years of F&F mayhem I would love to read about it.

THE VOLUNTEERS...
You can't do an event like F&F without Volunteers, and in some cases folks who paid for a ticket but still stepped up to help when they noticed a spot where help was needed. There are way to many to name. But 2 in particular do need to be mentioned. Luna & Romina who between the two of them held things down at the front gate over these last 3 years at Crystal Creek. That particular job is so important that it needs to be handled by someone who is smart, a good communicator, and above all trustworthy. We could not have been in better hands over these last few years.

Finally, but most importantly...
YOU!!!!!!!!
All the Faeries, Fools, and Freaks who came and played, danced, laughed, cried, made friends, lovers, and generally created the magick with your stellar costumes and unbelieveable energy.
Seeing the love and light in so many faces makes all the effort worthwhile.

I am sure I am forgetting someone so I may add on to this thread later, or.... if someone out there notices an ommision please let me know.

I have sincerely loved doing F&F these last 8 years and don't rule out the possibility of doing it again at some point in the future if the stars allign. Until then though... may the spirit of Faeries & Fools live on FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love,
Nils

this was this most incredible and well-produced faeries & fools in its eight year history! thank you to all of you who made the journey and contributed your energy, majick, and love. sadly we lost money on the event as we had a lower turnout than expected. 150 people less than last year which is bizarre because the weather this year was absolutely perfect and last year was cold with snow and rain!

to help offset our losses we are offering for sale our beautiful 8.5x11 full colour poster of this year's event for a minimum donation of $5.00... of course, as much as you could donate would be appreciated too! just send me a message to arrange the exchange.

blessings,

we've had a couple folks drop out at the last minute so there are possibly two spots opened up for volunteering. one is for a door shift at 2am - 4:30am. the other is to work with the green team. if either of those interest you AND you can't afford a ticket then please message me and tell me which position you're interested in.

we are also interested in having one more person join the first aid team. level 3 with supplies would be the ideal....

4 more days!!!

plus you feel great
you can park closer than any of the cars
you can leave whenever you want
you get coolness points for being such a hot cyclist!

it takes about 45 minutes from the gumboot to go up (mostly gentle uphill slope, only one intense hill)
and 10 minutes to go down (wheeeeeeee!)

you can also load a bike onto the transit bus if you're coming from farther away...

don't forget to bring some extra spending money along to f&f 08. we have some very special local, hand made art available, some things you will never find in stores, ever, anywhere.... from hand crafted glass art, to crystals, books, faery and elf clothing, herbs, hoola hoops, and complete costumes, or extra bits to add to the costume you have already been working on for months now to complete it and make it the best costume EVER! dont forget that we are having a best costume competition and the winner will recieve a dope custome made, one-of-a-kind klc faery top hat. they are amazing and soooo beautiful, and you will want to do whatever you can to win one. (but if you don't, never fear, klc will have some for sale in the market). so make sure you arrive on site a little early to make sure you can check the talent on offer;)
and to potential vendors who have not contacted me yet about vending, i'm afraid its too late, the market is filled. so please don't turn up at crystal creek with all your stuff to sell because im afraid i will have to say no. and there will be no "i'll just throw my blanket down on the grass here and lay out my wares" there is a strict policy against this. sorry to be a hard ass, but there has been lots of time to get your spot in the market.
the quality on offer will be super high, and you will be suitably impressed, so come prepared!!!

kids friendly party.. night of

My daughter is at the age wher she very much wants to come to the entire party.. but she is also at the age where her momma isn't so sure.

our medium here is to have a kid's friendly party the night of faeries and fools.. so that children can come to the event during the day and their parents can remain at the gathering.. while the kids come back to our place for some kid inspired fun.. even littl'er' kids are welcome because my duaghter and her friends who are all 12-13 are offering over night child care (with adult help)..
so the kids can stay up.. wear their costumes.. have snax and dance.. we are on a farm with loads of wonderufl animals in our family.. so it is a great place to chill for the night!

we can even get the kids to make a nice breakfast for sleepy parents the next morning.

so we are offering this as a specila kids *after hours* faeries and fools party!

This year the Daytime Activities will be truly special... I feel very honoured to be organizing it this year and to be to working and playing with such creative souls. Let me tell you all about the featured artists and some of the magic that you can expect.

Come early and have your face painted, do some arts and crafts and augment your costume with fancy materials and natural found objects. Play with children and your inner child (those who really believe in faeries).

Freestyle to hip hop beats... Listen to acoustic music by Copper Chris, Sasha Rose, Kaija and more. Puppets, characters and stilting creatures will be roving around through out the day. Play games and join the parade.

An Elvin faerylore fashion show will feed you full of eye-candy...Thanks to the tantilizing tailoring of the folks from the Fashion Passion Collective.
Make sure you bring lots of $cashola$ so you can support this talent and deck yourself out in some styly tribal gear and costumes at the Tribal Market.

We have invited the Flying Dreams Circus, an Aerial Acrobatics troupe from Salts Spring to wow us all with three shows throughout the day... Daytime only!

Featured Artists Include
Cody Chancellor- creator of Crystal Creek Kitchen, performer and visuals artist and pillar of behind the scenes antics.

Jennifer Norquist- Puppeteer, designer, stilter, mosaic artist and craft master (that's me)

Chloe Ziner and Jessica Gabriel-puppeteers from Mind of a Snail Puppet co. Musicians and compost-modernist artists... Check out Shadow Jam at night by the camp fire

Pan Wilson-Talented performer- amazing energy that infects us all with Joy.

Charo and Raquel- Talented Fashion Passionates who bring magic and spark

hey there kids,
this year i will be co-ordinating and managing the market for f&f. for those of you who are interesting in vending, tables and half tables are available under a canopy near the pond at crystal creek. we are very specificlly looking to create a very unique and special market that showcases the talents of the local faery and elf popluation. what that means is that if you would like to trade your wares, there must be something faery or elf like about what you have created, in particular costume-y. we are not interested in hemp macrame beading, although we love it, we are looking for that extra special work that falls under the theme of faeries and fools costume carnival. there is very limited space for vending, so you must contact me here thru tribe to apply for a spot. spaces will not be available on the day of the event, so please dont expect to turn up with your set up and be able to trade. there is no space for pop ups to set up, we are providing a wonderful covered area and are providing tables too, remember space is limited. if there are questions you can post them on this thread ot contact me privately through my profile. contact me soon as the spaces will be filled very quickly.
faeries and fools 2007, elphinstone represent!

Greetings...
It seems like just yesterday that the original Faerie of Roberts Creek... Erica the "Juice Lady"... and I were sitting out back at the Gumboot one cold weekday morning sipping Hot apple-lemon-ginger and day dreaming about creating an annual spring time gathering of Faeries & Fools.

That was 8 years ago, and that first year around 150 faeries & fools came out and danced and played at the Roberts Creek hall.
Each year since then the event has grown and evolved.

Part of that evolution for me personally has been to watch this event grow into something beyond me and become a part of the lore of the Magickal Sunshine Coast.

The team that has formed this year is truly amazing.

I'm stoked to be a part of it with y'all.

Less than two months to go....
Posters, flyers, and tickets will be ready for April 1st.

Let the family know, Crystal Creek can only sustain a limited sized crowd so be ready to pounce when tickets go on sale.

Telepaphone in full effect...
Beaming out the LOVE.

DJ BRAD

A veteran of both the Los Angeles and San Francisco underground dance scenes, DJ Brad has been spinning techno since 1992. His interest in the environment, yoga, and his philosophical nature are conveyed in his musical choices. Over the years Brad has been an integral member of many innovative and successful collectives including Moontribe, Tropical, and Mother Earth Sound System.

DJ Brad's eclectic mixes flow smoothly, taking the listener on a musical journey where time and space seem to disappear. Using the language of music to unite and celebrate the earth and humanity is Brad's goal. "I see people getting involved in this wonderful, beautiful, dynamic culture, they are coming away with an experience they never knew existed before. They discover that people dancing as one, a ritual old as society, is very liberating."

DJ Brad defies classification by experimenting with a variety of musical genres. Often cutting between tech-house, electro, techno, and trance, Brad says, "Whatever I play usually has an organic, tribal, funky feel and is a big head trip.
NOAH PRED/SHEN

Producing dance music and performing live for over eight years, Noah Pred emerged from Vancouver's underground as a sought-after techno DJ with a sophisticated sound and unique style. Devoted to authentic and soulful strains of techno in all its permutations, Noah's sound continues to evolve while remaining firmly driven by the dancefloor.

Since his first records came out in the late nineties, his productions have received international support, appearing on charts from renowned talent such as Carl Cox, Cari Lekebusch, and Laurent Garnier. His subsequent 12-inch EPs and remixes have continued to garner critical acclaim while moving dancefloors across the globe, appearing on playlists from Tokyo to Glasgow.

As a DJ and live act, Noah has travelled throughout Europe and North America, performing alongside such diverse artists as Funk D'Void, James Holden and Mathew Jonson.

Also... *Take note* - There will be a roster of daytime performances and activities happening as well. There is an activated crew of Faeries and Fools from the Sunshine Coast and beyond who are putting it together. They will be posting details on daytime stuff soon.

hello all you wonderful critters! i am so happy to say that planning is in full swing and this year faeries & fools is looking to be very exceptional! we have lots of surprises in store but they are surprises right now so you'll hafta sit back and relax and wait with eager anticipation! :)

i want to respond to a bunch of the ideas posted in the "what is faeries & fools missing?" thread, and to clarify any little things that may be confusing. i'll try to do this in some kinda order that makes sense but i might just jump all over the place too...

as mentioned previously we are very pleased to have the bright sprite klc faery on board to weave her deco majick in the big party tent! any of you familiar with klc's creations knows that this is a very special opportunity for us lucky kids to bask and dance in her faery realm. when we open the tent at 7 pm saturday night i think we'll all be in for a real treat!

the photo booth has been an idea kicking around for quite a while, one yet to be manifested. ideally i can see a special zone with some lights and backdrops where all the tricked out fully costumed elves can snap a memory of the occasion. wouldn't it be cool if a booth was set up with a digital camera, a laptop, and a colour laser printer? for a few bucks you and your lovelies could walk away with a very special momento! unfortunately the planning and logistics of this are currently beyond the capabilities of myself and nils to organize. however, if someone would like to propose this as a concession possibility please get in touch with me personally and we can talk it over.

costumes are in full effect! at this time they are not mandatory (just wait! it won't be long!) but they are very strongly encouraged. i mean, c'mon peeps, it's a friggin' costume carnival masquerade party! we've got just under three months to get our digs together, is that enough time? faery wings, masks, body paint, fun fur, crazy creations, tutus - get yer freak on! :) if circumstance denies you the ability to put something together then don't worry, we'll have some very creative sewers and designers at our tribal market who can sell you just what you need. the tribal market begins in the daytime and will continue into the night.

for many people the firepit and live musical drum and acoustic jam is the best part of the night. mind of a snail shadow puppets will grace our event once again and will be performing and encouraging others to participate as well. we encourage you to bring your drums and acoustic instruments but there will be no set schedule of performers; it's more organic spontaneous free styles in effect.

as usual this will be a "no alcohol" event. every year some folks bring alcohol in and we catch some of it but not nearly enough. this year we'll be a little more strict on the alcohol consumption. like zero tolerance. please respect our party and please plan accordingly.

there's been some talk of daytime activities such as having a maypole, organized games, etc. we are planning our daytime events with certain key elements in mind, and space will be limited for random foolery which may require a lot of space. however, we encourage you to come and have FUN! (duh!) so on that note please know that jennifer and johanna are our wonderful daytime activities co-ordinators and ideas can be passed to or discussed with them. if you don't know how to contact them message me and i'll hook you up. personally, i think the maypole idea is awesome, it's just a matter of finding the right spot with enough space. the games idea however, well... come and play games! but please respect the programme and activities we schedule and wish to highlight and prioritize.

this year we're having a more activated daytime schedule, a bigger and better tribal market, circus arts performance, a stellar musical line up, food concessions all day and all night culminating in a pancake breakfast sunday morning, a fully engaged green team to help keep our ecological footprint tiny, and of course, security, first aid, psi crisis support, and all the quality you can expect from us!

please keep the ideas and suggestions coming! we won't be able to implement every idea mentioned, in fact, we may not even agree with all the ideas mentioned! but please know that we so very much appreciate everyone's thoughts; it's the participation of all that makes this event the best party of the year!

Intention 7.5 Summer Camp,July 7-9 (Crystal Creek)

In the midsummer of 2006 the tribal dance network family are invited to pack their camping gear and join together at the first summer version of our annual winter Intention Retreat. Situated at our time honored Crystal Creek location on the Sunshine Coast BC, we join with the intentions set upon it, of crystallizing conscious community in balance with nature.

As with all Intention Retreats, it is less spectacle oriented and more participant driven, with people encouraged to share their talents, gifts, resources, ideas and skills towards co-creating the micro version of the world we wish to inhabit on an eventual larger scale. At the same time we are each witness and encouragers to each others growth and our collective movement towards evolution in a spirit that contains child to elder.

To increase the participatory levels and give time for the needed collaborations and projects that will be created to be ready for the camp we will be hosting a small number of local orientations in the community fold. At these working pods will be formed.Other visiting dance tribes are encouraged to host their own in preparation and will be given support to do so.

To give a loose idea of how things will flow and how you can insert your flavor into things, the weekend may contain:

We're keeping the price down as much as possible at $60. Registration up and running online at www.tribalharmonix.org/events/summercamp.

May this serve as a midsummer check-in for us all to take the peak energies of summer with us towards living our highest potentials in celebration with new and old friends. May this serve to link generations. May this be practice for what it takes to live sustainably with each other and the Earth. May this be the reward of having found each other.
WORKSHOPS:

THE SOMATIC WAVE

(as experienced thru Yoga)
1.5 hours with Dhyana (no limit)

A revolutionary way of initiating movement with energy instead of
muscle!

This leading-edge style of Yoga combines aspects of Chi Kung,
Cranialsacral work and Continuum to lift you into yoga poses from the
inside out. Your body becomes self-supporting through "tensegrity" (a
Buckminster Fuller principle). Learn to surf gravity's antiforce,
steering its rebounding wave with the inner core diaphragms and
riding it into any and all movement.

As somatic awareness is stimulated, new integrated movement /energy
patterns are adopted that allow you to melt through limitations, heal
from injury and experience mastery in asanas.

TANTRIC CHI MOVEMENT with Ashanti Shakti

Through tantric breathing and chi energy movement techniques we will learn how to open and attune our energetic vibrational frequencies to the world around us, relaxing into peace and harmony with our surroundings, calming our being into an open, non-reactive state, fully opening to the ecstatic beauty of every moment.

Ashanti Shakti from Portland, OR has been intensively practicing Tantric and Chi energy movement for the past year. Based on her 10 years of experience practicing meditation, buddhism, yoga and tantra she has intuitively found that combining certain eastern energy movement techniques enhances their realms of effectiveness

PERMACULTURE with Peter Light

Permaculture is about permanent agriculture; permanent
culture; intentional community
"self"-sufficiency/"self"- reliance; providing for all
of human need in as small a space as possible: and
dropping out. It about making a radical break with
the dominant paradigm. It's not a hobby. It's a
lifesaver.

It's also about work and commitment.

What are the prerequisites to permaculture? How do we
get started? What needs to be in place to propel the
plunge? What is necessary to sustain that break with
the mass culture for years?

The presenter of this workshop has thought about these
issues since his first drop-out in 1962. He will lead
a discussion based on what motivated him and what has
kept him living simply and alternately for over four
decade.

TRANCE FORMATION:
The Spiritual Dimensions of Global Rave Culture

Over the course of nearly two decades, the rave scene has evolved into much more than simply an electronic dance music party. For thousands of people around the world, it has become an important source of spirituality and the closest thing they have to a religion. In this workshop, Robin Sylvan will share material from his recent book, Trance Formation: The Spiritual and Religious Dimensions of Global Rave Culture, an ethnographically rich look into the spiritual dimensions of rave culture from a theoretically informed religious studies perspective. Combining firsthand accounts, extensive interviews with ravers, and cutting edge scholarly analysis, Robin will take us on a colorful journey from San Francisco to London, from Burning Man to the Love Parade, and illuminate the deeper aspects of rave spirituality. We will also explore next steps and future directions in the evolution of the spiritual/intentional wing of the rave scene.

TRANCE FORMATION:
An Experimental Electronic Dance Music Ceremony

While many raves use ceremonies to create sacred space, unfortunately, all too often, the intense trance energies generated on the dance floor dissipate as we shift into a passive verbal mode. But traditional ceremonies like the West African possession dance or the Sufi Sema of the whirling dervishes demonstrate that trance dancing can be utilized in a ceremonial form that channels these energies toward sacred ends. This workshop with Robin Sylvan is an experiment in creating this kind of ceremonial form with electronic dance music. Using sacred intentionality, ritual practices, and specific movements, gestures, and formations, we will focus and direct the powerful energy of the trance dance experience in a ceremonial context in a specially designed hour-long sequence of music. We will trace the arc of a ceremony – creating a sacred container, generating energy, and dedicating that energy – through trance dancing to electronic dance music, so that the ceremony, like the rave experience itself, is danced/embodied/enacted rather than spoken.

Robin Sylvan, Ph.D., is the founder and director of The Sacred Center, a spiritually-oriented educational organization in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has taught in both mainstream academic and alternative experiential contexts. He is the author of Trance Formation and Traces of the Spirit: The Religious Dimensions of Popular Music, and has been a music aficionado and spiritual seeker for most of his life. He is now working on a major study examining the brain science of musically-induced spiritual and religious experiences.
Through the use of image theatre, visualization,
discussion and ritual, we will examine our wisdom,
hopes, challenges and fears about the role of
sexuality in our lives and in our community. We will
work together to create an image of sexual health and
wholeness and bring our focus into shaping an
energetic container to hold the intention generated
through this process and serve as a resource for the

thank you thank you thank you!!!

what an awsome gathering. the energy was high and the vibe was sweet. i danced my ass off and was straight all night. i felt like i was the highest in the room.

i'm not gonna start thanking everyone, mostly all volunteers, there are too many to forget and too many i don't know.

i will thank dyana for her land. caretaking a sanctuary that would otherwise most likely be clearcut. pretty cool party you got going in your back yard.

i will also thank the trees for bearing our loud music all night. just in case some of them don't like it.

so much family, so many hugs, so many new friends. i can't wait to connect with you all again. networking, that's what it's all about. we gotz to unite, yes?

the music, the music, the music!

the costumes!!!

i love you all.
(whomever took amy's stones, i love you less. no coffee for you!)

stolen gems from the golden box . . .. with pure acceptance and still positive feelinGs.

well. . .
all things considered I am definately glad that i attended the fairies and fools event for the second time in this life.

interesting. .. i had expected the event to be full of family. .. i feel that humanity is a family. ..
and i love to share with family. .. .

yet why do things become stolen sometimes? what does this mean?

i carried two of my beloved wooden boxes into the heated tent last evening.
i put them on the wooden coffee table and the action made me feel at home.
i decided to take the risk of leaving the boxes, with lids closed and unlocked, (they have no locks) beneath the table for most of the evening.

i spent most of my savings on my ticket. .. this was a big deal and yet no big deal at the same time. money comes and goes. i choose to trust my heart always.

these boxes that i carried up to the event are Frith family heirlooms.
pieces that have been in the Frith family for years.
Frith is my legal last name that translates to FREEDOM in Celtic.

The larger wooden box is brown wood and in it i kept craft supplies.
The smaller box is painted gold and was found in Italy by my grandfather, Len Frith, during the second world war. It means alot to me.

I filled it last night with almost all of my most precious stone beads. . .beads that I have been collecting over the past year.
I gave some away last night to special people. .. mostly to friends that i have known for years. . and some to new friends.

I decided to save most of the beads for future creations. . .as I love to create wearable art pieces with beadwork.
This morning. . .just before I left. .. I went to the coffee table inside the circus tent and found that the golden box had been lifted up onto the top of the coffee table. I looked inside. It was empty. The jewels have been taken. I am so CURIOUS and somewhat upset. .. and yet strong. .. . aware of my ability to accept and forgive.

Aware of the fact that there are many unique cultural beliefs and ideas. . .and I am curious about why someone would take such beautiful gems without asking.
There was approximately three-four hundred dollars worth of small precious stones and gems inside the box. . .all stolen.

I have about seven dollars to my name right now.
I also have a large family and friends. . .all around the earth. . .in every country. ..
in urban centres and in rural areas. . .and somehow. ..

I feel abundance. . ..despite the fact that I am currently poor financially.

I do have art supplies. .. and many talents. .. . so I am FINE and dreaming myself AWAKE.

And I am certainly GLAD that I have MY KARMA.
I AM GLAD THAT I AM NOT THE PEOPLE or PERSON who chose to steal my gems.

And then again. ..

WHAT IS REALLY the meaning of the word: "MINE"

Tonight I shall sleep in the calm and quiet silence of my open heart.

I shall continue to be true to my beliefs. . .I shall continue to live with noble intentions and actions. I shall continue to PURIFY myself as I change and grow. I have lessons to learn and I must be carefull in this world that is full of mysterY.

and I shall continue to be thankfull for all of my experiences.

David & Nils and everyone else in the organization crew, and all the dj's, and vendors, and performers who made last night possible despite rain, sleet, hail, and snow... A very lovely and exciting evening. My thanks.
And of course a tired grin and a mile wide hug to all that made the dancefloor so visually stimulating and helped keep this Soul shaking. Every time it seemed my energy was flagging, I needed only to look around at all the crazy finery and ecstatic smiles and stomping and swirling and jumping and gyrating and my batteries recharged.
Looking forward to next year already, plus however many like events in between!

TWO WEEKS!!!

i'm going to celebrate april foolery today by talking about faeries & fools to everyone i meet! wow, it's only two weeks away, i can hardly believe it... and i can hardly wait! i can tell you that this year the sound is going to be BUMPING and the line-up is STELLAR. the daytime activities are going to go off in a HUGE way. two food concessions will keep you nourished and warm (nu-trish-ous and ianna the chai and treats queen). so much loveliness is being planned to help make your experience a most enjoyable and ecstatic journey into those other dimensions that we visit during these very special and momentous occasions.

who's making costumes? who's making masks? who's making wings? let's support eachother and elevate the vibration by posting ideas, inspiration, organizing work/playshops, trading costume and fabric material... so much creativity!

also, as a side note.... as an organizer these events are a real pleasure and a labour of TOTAL love to produce with and for all you lovelies! please help us out by buying your ticket in advance... not only does that gaurantee you the advance ticket price but it seriously helps nils and myself to stay calm and grounded and confident that we are doing the right thing and that we will not lose any money. (all i want to in exchange for the hundreds of hours i'm putting into this is to break even and see everyone having the best friggin time of their life! :))

so many thank yous to all of you faeries and freaks! :)

blessings,
david

ps - i'll be at the galiano dance tonite and will have tickets without service charges available for you..

my overview of F&F 05 (to whet your appetites for this year!)

Sweet Jumpin’ Jeezus ...book yer bloody calendar off already for next years Faeries and Fools. Last night...er...this morning (we left around 3, exhausted but wound up like a $2 watch, in bed around 5)...was such a blast and really should not be missed. There is really nothing else like it, at least to my limited experience, and certainly not within 20 minutes of my front door.

To set the scene... While you might be a local like me, you’ve most likely jumped a ferry from your city existence and made your way up the Coast; you might have made an early enough ferry to travel by daylight, but lets assume that, like me, you are arriving after sunset. You drive up Lockyer (our road) from the highway on past our driveway until the pavement runs out and then out a rough gravel forest logging access road twisting and meandering 3.5 klicks up the hillside. You are arriving just in the gloaming past dusk, it is seemingly pitch black as you make this drive, nothing but the cone of headlights and black screens of trees to either side. You finally come upon a roadside collection of many parked cars, vans, FUVs, pick ups, even a beautiful vintage Airstream. You exchange your ticket for a wrist band from the flash lit and radio toting organizers and slowly make your way another 1/2 a klick or so to the lines end, where you park. By flashlight and blinding approaching headlights you make your way back to the gateway entrance and start off into the night woods along a winding dirt road. Cloud cover is just enough to cast an ambient glow from the half moon above and scattered tiny LEDs along the way convince us to turn off our lights and make our way on trust and night vision. The air is rich with the smell of moss and firs, and a rushing stream tumbles within earshot off to the right. Occasional voices and barely glimpsed bodies pass us in the darkness, scattered laughter and the occasional sweetly skunky drift of BC bud. After a timeless meander you become aware of a low rumble pulsing through the damp woods, a heartbeat of bass and shouts and hollers that grows louder as does an increasing ambient glow through the trees ahead. You come to a widening and are vaguely aware of a lower field to the right, bonfire crackling with rising sparks reflected in a nearby pond, drums moving in and out of syncopation, mixing with the thunderous drum and bass riffs coming from above. Up a hillside past a lantern hung fenced orchard area is a gigantic circus-like tent, its roof a pulsating swirl of projected images, leaf skeletons and fractal rainbows.
You move through a tarp roofed dimly lit outer smoking area, awash in tobacco and cannabis, and laughter. Under strings of blue LED lights you get your first glimpses of flame haired and sequin masked revelers, darkly robed and dread locked shrubs, face paints and glow stick jewellery. You flash your wristband and enter into a throbbing, pounding miasma of sound, light, and the ever-moving polyglot of dancing forms. If you’re like me, you take in the briefest glimpse of this delightful Inferno and then your glasses promptly fog over from the heat, seat, and steam being pounded up from the rain damp field below your feet. A pause to get your bearings, stash your pack and water collection, wipe your eyes and with out much further ado you fling yourself into the mire with a mile wide grin on your grill.

While there was certainly a large swirling hippy contingent milling about by daylight and out around the bonfire and drum circle, the overall flavour in the absolutely HUGE tent dancehall was deliciously over the top decadent with most nods style and fashion-wise having little to do with rural/hippy life and far more to a city’s night life transported into the woods. There was certainly a large contingent of woodland spirits, elf lords, and fairy maidens but from there it just went out and up. Various samurai or elven warrior types; Moulon Rouge meets Interview with a Vampire brocades and corsets, waist coats and toppers; a few too many pop tarted wannabe Porn Stars/Brittneys, usually on the arm (or crotch) of some muscle bound jean and t-shirted short-back-and-sides type; vine and leaf adorned earth goddesses, and leather and vinyl clad city slickers. So many flavours and orientations of girls and boys, men and wimmin, and many floating in between; and from babes in arms to a goodly scattering of grey hairs. Horns, wings, antennae and claws were in much abundance, and many miles of nakedly glistening or glowingly painted flesh was also to be reveled. One of the greatest ongoing challenges throughout the night was avoiding losing an eye to a flailing faeries wing tip. Satins and lace, leathers and vinyls, patched denims to silky tuxes, glittering ball gowns to sequined disco-cowgirl ensembles. While Faeries abounded (with and without boots) there was definitely a goodly and motley crew of Fools liberally mixed into the fray, from full on “just stepped off the playing card” jesters with styles from various time periods, Arthurian to Louis XIV, to some of the “way beyonds” who were definitely jumping and jiving to their own full pipe’n’drum corps, from anti-superhero types to the white lab coated Python fan with the fish swallowing his head. Always a treat to know that we Fools are in good company.

We (six of us) arrived about 11pm (the event began at 3:33, the djs started around 8:30) and we all simultaneously collapsed around 3am, but there were djs scheduled past dawn. In typical club fashion the music was just ramping up about the time my body was calling it quits. *oof* Pounding beats and multi level slide projections and lights and steamy muddy earthen dance floor...I never even changed out of my gumboots, just planted my feet and twisted and shook. Easily 300 to 400 people in the dance tent. I moved outside a few times for air and herb (and at one point to escape potential Hellfire and Damnation as the fire spinners were waving their torches about under many dangling bits of plastic diffraction material and inflated nylon soft sculptures, scaring the bejeezus out of me. The fire jugglers were just one aspect of dance and performance rituals that interspersed the dj’d dance fest from time to time throughout the evening). Outside I’d plant myself behind the open tent wall backing the dj area and peer back into the swirling pulsing coloured mass while dancing in misty moisty moonlit air sucking in great breaths of green trees and wet grass (well, occasionally sucking in lungfulls of dried grass too, yum yum; on top of cookie and tequila to loosen up the bones; *woosh buzzz*) Then wade back into the fray where I kept returning to the same spot over and over; no doubt I should have made at least one circuit of the tent as in it’s hugeness there were many different dance spots and chill out areas but I seemed to have put down roots in the Pointless Forest and as I was near the door could also get occasional hints of less swampy air and pretend that if the whole thing did spontaneously combust I’d be in theory near an exit. As it was, my hip sockets and lower back were the only things’ threatening to implode by the end, but oh wasn’t it gloriously worth it!

Many many highlights as to exquisite ladies to behold; darkly delicious gothic vampiras to fey elven maids, witchy-poo stockings and ruffed mini skirts; skin tight cat suits to cloud-like swaths of torn lace and chiffon. Not to seem unbalanced in my observations and tastes, there were a goodly number of very attractive men as well, from the beautifully androgynous skirt and mask types to swashbucklingly moustachioed musketeers to foxy Edwardian dandy types. From scarily young poptarts to deliciously knowing Men and Women of Experience and Years. Flashing eyes and laughing mouths and bodies twining and gyrating. You didn’t need Ecstasy to be in awe of all the combined beauty; even zee orkestra vas beeyootivul. That said, a dab of X would have really made the night; next time I’ll have to begin shopping early. The added grokking in fullness not to mention the fuel to aim for dawn would have been the icing on the cake, but oh dear there was still so much cake to be had. A visual and aural feast of fine proportion and dimension was enjoyed by all.
Highlights of my observances of the Cast of Characters included the couple in full variations of bold black and white stripes; she in vertical stripe crinoline skirts, corset/bustier and powdered wig; he with 1” high and wide white Mohawk bisecting black crop, vertical striped jacket, black knickers, and horizontal striped knee socks. Several tall and slender men of chiseled jaw, high cheekbones, and long tresses in skirts or long pleated trousers, sleeveless warrior vests or long tabards, including one in scarlet brocades and stunning crow mask. The stunning Helena Bonham-Carter look alike Faerie Queen On Acid that grabbed me by the arm, spun me around and exclaimed, “You’re really cute!” and I was struck completely and totally speechless. By the time she’d repeated the comment I managed to stop staring in astonishment (this does not happen to me) and blurt out a tiny “thank you” but she’d given up on me by then; so much for witty rejoinders and snappy pick up lines. There was also the purple clad Acid Granny, awash in purples, violets, and lavenders from scarf trailing wide brimmed hat to swirling lacy skirts, who also laughingly spun me about and then disappeared, all bright eyes amidst crinkly laugh lines, she must have been 60 or more but a sparkling child of the night. I have a collection of wildly coloured sweaters that I refer to as my Granny’s On Acid sweaters; I now know who knit ‘em. Amidst the various glow sticked or LEDed twirlers and sparklers one black clad woman stood out as she rolled 4” diameter crystal spheres from hand to hand in a dizzyingly woven web of sinuous movement. The colourless orbs reflecting and projecting the colours and patterns of the pulsing light show, in many ways more dazzling and magic than the obvious high tech trickery of battery powered light accessories.

Musically it was a blend of abilities and tastes. The whole DJ thang is a curious one. So many of them don’t dance or at least seem to not understand the basic building blocks of danceable beats and rhythms or of paying attention to the dancers. As most djs are mixing up tracks on top of beat and bass “dop-thud” tracks, they are usually only as good as their ability to choose a good under beat. Some last night were fab; very sexy with a good thumpin’ groove, but often the “dj charged on speed” mindset would take over and it becomes an exercise in running on the spot, or you’d be in the middle of a great bump and grind with everyone really connecting and soul shaking when there would a sudden clumsy shift in gears as the dj takes it into his head to go somewhere elsewhere entirely, oblivious to the dance floor and it’s sudden crumbling stumble as the trance is broken. Luckily that only happened a few times last night; on the whole it was a very good groove and certainly no end of folk having a blast thrashing and a-jumping.

This was my second Faeries and Fools event, and I’ll make a point of participating from now on. There are often events going on that I end up waffling on and blowing off; this one demands presence. While I’ve been to a number of electronica/rave events up here and in the city ranging from deadly dull to rather entertaining, this is definitely The Event not to be missed. Folk come from as far off as Nelson and Seattle, not to mention the many that seem not only from some other part of the map, but from some other galaxy or parallel universe. I really think you should make a place on your calendar for next year and we’ll unfold the couches and blow up the air mattresses and stack you as high as necessary come the dawn when it’s time to collapse.
So...Faerie...or Fool?

E
--
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the
intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well
preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways,
Champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and
screaming WHOOOO-OOOO! What a Ride!"
- author unknown, but who can argue?

march 26th, f and f preview playday

hey!

wanna be involved in the co:creation of this most majickal event?

some friends and i are planning a couple of work/play days leading up to the event, and they promise to be filled with tons of fun.

the first one will be held on march 26th (sunday), blue solar hand.

free daycare is provided for those wishing to bring the whole family. the activity planned for the first workday is lantern making, so if you have any tissue paper to bring along to assist us, that would be greatly appreciated.

for those needing a shuttle up the hill, rides will be provided from the gumboot starting at 9:30, but make sure that you pm me in advance to take advantage.

the day's activities will commence at 10:10, as we scheme and delegate over muffins, coffee, and tea.

we will work for a few hours, then break for lunch at 1:11. participants are encouraged to bring along potluck items, or ingredients to add to salads and wraps.

the second work shift will start around 2:45, and will continue for a few more hours.

we will begin celebrations at sundown, with a bonfire and acoustic jam session. (bring your drums, and be prepared to exercise those vocal chords!)

come along, and be a part of the transformational experience of creating a fun-filled playzone with your community.

o, and i'm proposing a theme for the day: broadway musicals. i thought it might be fun to try and sing to each other while we work, just as an experiment in making even the trivial tasks a little more exciting.

let's see what we can do as a team.

see you there!

I Love my current vision of adding a personal touch - contribution to fairies and fools.

I am happiest and most balanced when I can perform and contribute to events.. . .even if only for a small amount of time. . very flexible i am.

I am good with creating songs that stem from old songs. with a fresh replacement of some new lyrics mixed with old. . .one of my favourites IS and allways has been the 'rainbow connection' as taught by green master frog - KermiT.

i can do this alone with vocals. .. and am open to harmonious additions with other musicians.

too late?

i personally am happy believing that things are allways POSSIBLE!

f and f daytime adventures, part one.

hello, all!

as most of you probably know, my focus in this community is on harm reduction, alternative education, future skooling, and dreaming up ways of involving families in all events.

i attended faeries and fools for the first time last year, and altho i was blown away by the overall production, i was especially elated at the way that children were included. there is nothing i adore more than being able to party with kids of all ages.

this year, i have been given the awesome opportunity to plan the day's events. i have assembled a kick ass team of fun-loving, spontaneous kidults who will be assisting me throughout the event. we have all committed to being safe, sober, friendly adults who will be available to connect with children and youth for the duration of the event.

puppet jen (formally mythmaker jen) and myself have been planning for weeks now, and without giving away all the mystery, i'd like to outline a few things that can be expected.

gates will open this year at 12:12, and our family-friendly opening circle will commence at 1:11 (on the dot!). for those of you up and costumed at that time of the day, we will be calling in the forces of infinite hilarity with a silly sing-a-long. events for the day will continue until just before the official opening ceremony at 7 pm.

our theme this year is majick, fun, and play above all, and all events promise to be infused with super sillisonic gigglefitness.

what you can expect: alice in wonderland meets majickal tripped-out woodland creatures and they all drink tea and act crazy at a daytime carnival reminiscent of an elementary school sports day gone horribly awry. performers will roam throughout the day, always in character, always up for adventure.

(if you remember cosmik cupcake's "birth" at f and f last year, be ready for the even zanier upgrade this year, as she celebrates turning ONE with friends, new and old, from this galaxy and far beyond.)

craft areas and a puppet making zone will be set up for the day, and i am looking for donations for the following things. if you are able to supply any of these items, please email me (johannag@dccnet), or send me a private message on this site.

-craft paper (plain, and construction)
-scissors
-LED lights (to be returned, of course)
-old, large t-shirts to be used as painting smocks
-paintbrushes
-wax crayons
-oil pastels
-rolls of masking tape

thanks in advance,
and for those bringing wee ones i'd love a heads-up beforehand (ages, names), and an introduction once on the site.

can't wait to see you all there!

love love love!
let the silly fun begin!
