The Queen's Monkeys

The latest historic research has uncovered a document that showed, while Princess Elisabeth was being kept a prisoner in the tower, she taught a pet monkey to write, as an amusement.
And once she became Queen, she had a whole tribe of writing monkeys in one of her more obscure castles.

Could it be that they penned all of Shakespeare's plays?

Inquiring minds want to explore this possibility further.
And an exhibit of trained writing monkeys is going to be setup near the Royal Enclave, to support this historical event.
The Primate Consul to be next to the Privy Consul.

In the interest of making sure everyone sees this, I am reposting this from the company blog and the Gold Star tribe and my personal blog. Please note that the rewrite project is dependent upon the database upgrade project -- there's a lot of sub-projects to the larger project of making tribe stable and easier to use. Also, I tend to use the word 'bleeding edge' a lot when I am excited. It's just the imagery, I guess.

So, today I basically got the go-ahead to go full speed ahead with the rewrite project. I have convinced management that I know how to scale Ruby on Rails, and with John Adams (one of our contractors) now working on twitter.com (one of my favorite websites which also happens to be 100% RoR) I should have a wealth of data coming back for the bleeding edge development we are doing.

I think you folks should get not only the most stable but the shiniest and the coolest toys to play with, since SOME of you are paying for it. Because of this, I've entered into talks with Sun and MySQL to run the next version of tribe.net on nothing but Sun Microsystems equipment with Enterprise level database support. We're also going to be using some bleeding edge technologies like computing clouds to make this as cost efficient as possible. I know this is probably wacky moon talk to more than a few of my friends and people reading it, but these are all good things.

Because of Sun's support for this project, I feel a lot more comfortable pushing the bleeding edge of what can be done. I'm also having fun looking at machines with four processors in them and 256 GB of RAM. That Sun product catalog is a lot like porn to me, except you can't get a PDF sticky. One of the things that I am particularly proud of is throwing tribe's gauntlet into the ring of making Ruby on Rails scalable. I'm not the brightest person on the planet, but it seems like this shouldn't be rocket science. We also have two interns working on Ruby on Rails and AJAX/UI code for us, and you'll probably be thanking them more than me for the minor tweaks that tribe.net has needed for a year or so now.

The new timeline goes a little like this:

Proof of concept (July 9th)
Beta test roll out (August 1st)
Tribe.net 3.0 rollout (September 1st)

Due to certain efficiencies in coding in Ruby on Rails, we may have the beta-test sooner rather than later. Paid subscribers will have the first whack at the new Tribe.net servers, as we're setting up the cluster specifically for them first. Once we have the bugs shaken out, we'll launch the site for all members.

In other words... ask Mark Pincus if you see him at Burning Man!

More Fireworks than you can handle!

Well, the Watsonville Parade was more than just your average everyday 4th of July Parade! It seems the REAL fireworks occurred early in the day when the truth about Angelia’s pregnancy was revealed to Seamus. Apparently she is with TWINS! Oh yes, twins and there is more. During the outburst of delight by Seamus, it was also disclosed that Glen, our very own Glen, is the father of one of the twins!

“OMG, the gathered crowd screamed!”

See, all this week Glen knew that the truth would come out. This is why he concocted his tribe blowing up rumor. It was his hope to minimize the damage and perhaps save his pristine reputation!

Seamus looked deeply into Angelia’s eyes and pleaded that she was telling the truth. Then they looked at me and smiled.

“Yes, it is true, said Angelia.” But that was not the end of the story. She continued to explain that her doctor had told her there was a very high possibility that each child would look like the father, given his scientific experience in these matters.

Then she smiled ever so sweetly to those of us within ear shot and said, “Well as long as one looks like Seamus and the other like Glen, but, oh, wait… one of them is going to be a girl!

We shrieked and ran away!

Hey, all! I'm very excited to announce that the next Belles of Bedlam performance is going to be in just a few short days! We've done faires for the Big Bear Valley Renaissance society before, but this year they're excited to present their very first Victorian Faire! This coming Saturday and Sunday, July 5th & 6th, join the Belles, Sportive Tricks, and a wide variety of other exciting shows and entertainments!

Here is a little more info:

The Big Bear Valley Renaissance Society, Inc. is delighted to announce our first Victorian Festival on July 5th and 6th, 2008, at our permanent site on the north shore of Big Bear Lake!

Hosted in the lovely little town of Fawnskin, the Victorian Festival is a day in Charles Dickens London: a city filled with lively and colorful characters from both literature and history. Come join us for an adventure in this elegant era with hundreds of costumed players in music halls, pubs and dance parties. Explore our winding lanes, finding trinkets and treasures while surrounded by enticing aromas of hearty foods and the joyous sound of music in the air.

Some of the activities will include a Victorian Tea, Tea with the Queen, and readings by Charles Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe, Mark Twain, and other literary artists of the 19th century. We will have demonstrations of the Gatling gun, cannon, and a battle of the Queen's Royal Army! Entertainment, such as the always exciting (and often titillating) Belles of Bedlam, will also be provided on five stages throughout the day. And, for the younger set, we will have the children's craft & game area.

While not all visitors come in costume, a great many do. The highlight of the event, the Grand Masque Ball under the stars on Saturday night, is a costumed affair, although a non-costumed gallery is available, if you would like to witness the glamorous spectacle.

Ok, kids….I don’t repeat gossip, so listen up.

Rumor has it that Glen is the love child of Divine (aka Harris Glen Milstead), and some mysteriously unknown female. Divine, as you may know, was famous for playing female roles in John Waters movies. Arguably, his best role was Edna in “Hairspray,” but I digress…..

So, how do I know that Glen is Divine’s love child? Well, it’s simple: Divine’s name is Harris Glen Milstead…..Glen’s name is Glen Harris Kanzer. Coincidence? I think not. Scary, right?

Rumor has it that, instead of playing Rocky Horror at faire this year, Hairspray will be performed with Glen regaling us in the part of Edna. BREAKING NEWS - Faire Directors Protest GM Firing - Are All Fired

This just in....Faire Directors/Troupes/Stage Shows/Theme Characters/Independent Volunteer Organizations officially protested the firing of Guildmasters statewide and were promptly fired.

"They are just as annoying as the Guildmasters." said Hollister Woggs, spokesman for Faire Employee Management United (or FEMU) about the discharged rabble. "They cost too much (especially the Theme Characters), drank waaaaay too much (Boggards) and brought too much drama to our organization and not in a good way. We replaced them all with Squirrels. We figure since actors are squirrelly anyway, the customers will never know the difference. The Queens Guard are estatic that at any faire where they have to carry a Queen in a chair, she will be a squirrel."

Yeoman GerbilBottom commented, "We loved the APQ's but let's face it, the squirrel is WAAAAYYYY lighter. In the dress, the customers can't tell the difference and the children love to pet her. It's a win-win situation."

Hollister Woggs also is thrilled that the squirrels don't throw poo and work for peanuts. Several squirrels interviewed were too hyper to add much comment aside from random chitters, yips and some covert construction of some kind going on underneath a low lying picnic table.

The fired, disgruntled rabble could not be reached for comment. Last report had them heading to the nearest tiki bar with a bag of coconut bras and hula skirts. One source reports that while they no longer have a Faire one of them as a barn, someone else can sew curtains and they will just make their own damn show.

According to my sources; I have just heard a confirmed rumor from a squirrel who heard it from his brother's cousin's sister's aunt's brother's wife that she was innocently eating peanut butter from "The lady who left it on her back porch" that she saw them while watching the neighbor from splash poo mansion peeping through the window taking pictures. Mrs. Squirrel also went on to state that this is the same lady who pretends she's some sort of queen (sources have yet to confirm) and tirelessly campaigns to ban all camel toe & thongs from all civilized society.

It's true I made them for Valhalla. They were delicious!!!! There was the mishap of only adding enough flour for one batch while making 2 batches, however the bacon chocolate cookie crumble is delectable over ice cream. Hmmmm... next time, bacon ice cream maybe?

I will be making them again this coming weekend but bacon is so expensive we will be substituting bacon for Soylent Green.

All Guildmasters Fired

This just in....all the faires throughout the State of California have banded together and agreed to fire all of the Guildmasters for all their faires statewide.

"They are just annoying." said Hollister Woggs, spokesman for Faire Employee Management United (or FEMU) about the discharged Guildmasters. "They cost too much, ate too much, drank too much and smelled. We replaced them all with monkeys. They eat less, we don't have to pay them and all we have to worry about is them flinging poo."

When asked if the poo flinging might not be a severe flaw in the plan of replacing human guildmasters with monkeys Hollister replied "We just stay out of range. It actually works better and don't think the old GM's didn't try to fling poo as well. Haven't you ever met Mueller?"

The fired, disgruntled Guildmasters could not be reached for comment. Last report had them drowning their sorrows in some weak beer and strong whiskey at a biker bar in Barstow. An undisclosed source reported that one Guildmaster tried to keep their job by dressing like a monkey. Supposedly the monkeys mistook the guildmaster for one of their own and drug them off to destinations unknown. Our source reports seeing the monkeys stocking up on bananas, fermented coconut juice and lipstick.

Hollister (AP) - News from the City Council today on a ruling regarding the Renaissance Faire
held in Casa has come as a surprise to the administrating body of the Faire. Council member
Jake Turner was quoted as saying; "Complaints have come to us in the form of a request from
the organization Men Can Be Queens II stating that it finds the imposition of a woman as the
figure of a Queen at this event both offensive and demeaning."
The Council ruled 8 to 2 in the favor of the complaint, noting these are local citizens filing a
concern about a Faire which is comprised of a majority of non-residents and said they must comply
to their order to find an alternative to the single representation of rule by a woman and consider
either rule by two women or two men and to retain the title of as "Queens" of the realm.
Faire organizers stated that the representation of a woman as Queen was historically accurate
to which a Council member Mary Hautmeir has responded; "Historically? Please... nothing at your
event is historically accurate." "The position of Queen, is one of acting," replied the Faire representative
who declined to be identified and if there are others who wish to try out for such a part they are
welcome to do so. The reigning Queen (actor) was unavailable for comment, though some stated
that this recent event was unlikely the work of just the members of Men Can Be Queens II, but
spearheaded by Hollister Woggs and members of the Faire Employee Management United.
This reporter has learned that Mr. Woggs is in fact the brother of Council member Mary Hautmeir
and it is rumored he has always wanted to be Queen. So in fact this could be a result of in fighting
among Faire employees and somehow this reporter does not see this as something unusual as has
been seen in recent reports of the firing of Faire Guildmasters.

Garb to be Banned

Due to the continued misuse and over use of the term "garb" the editors of the Oxford English Dictionary have voted to ban all participants in Renaissance Faires and other Living History venues from using the term garb in any conversation,postings or writings of any kind until such time as the participants learn to use said term in its correct context.

Speaking on terms of anonymity one of the editors stated:

It is regrettable that we need to take such extreme measures. Please be assured that this matter was not decided lightly however we could no longer ignore the regrettable lack of understanding of the term in question.

It has become increasingly popular amongst Faire participants to use the term garb to indicate the costume they are wearing IE: " I must go put on my garb now." or "It is time to get into my modern garb as the Faire has ended."

When used properly garb refers not to articles of clothing but to a style or fashion of clothing IE: "The anthropologist displayed the colorful garb of the Micronesian people he had studied."

Sorry. Bored with the silly fiction rumors. Can we do some non-fiction for a bit?

I heard that a lot of guilds are being moved all over the place? Last year game row bombed the big one because of that opened road that went from main stage between court glade and FOFF. Most of the traffic went that way completely avoiding the molestation of the annoying hawkers. The booths, soda stand, moon swing and other booths reportedly noticed a difference in a very not good way.
(hey it's a rumor tribe and this is what I was told by someone who doesnt tend to make stuff up)

Anyone have any idea who is moving where? I know Cuthberts is going to move to where game row was. Game row is going to go to the back of faire somewhere and someone thought St. Mikes was going to shift a little toward the old cuthies spot ... how true this is I don't know.

Are they drastically changing the layout or something?

Glen mentioned as recent as today that this tribe was set up for fun...for funny silly rumors.

What is occurring it seems is that a lot of people are in flux and naturally on guard and a bit worried about changes at Southern as they are starting the season. Real concerns or people fishing for real info are getting mixed in here with the fun stuff. Now rumors about NCRF are getting thrown in too.

How about this? if you would really like to know accurate information about an actual concern, why don't you email the management at the faire in question? Carlos is wonderful and so is Jose. I'm sure they would be straight with you about RPFS.

As far as Northern, your welcome to email me directly, or Michelle, or David. Otherwise, it would appear that your just trying to stir up shit for both of these events by way of planting little slanted thoughts in people's heads.

How about sticking to the funny, like the battle between the squirrels and the ferrets and their Queens at the helm.

So over on Hey! it's the RPFS tribe there was a thread started about being quized. In the thread Pasha posted a pseudo real quiz and that plus the discussion about it being a chapter (30 years) not a page nor a footnote got me to wondering....

What is the approximate year based on the approximate age our new APQ is portraying?
Yes we are now in the port town of Deptford and the queen is visiting for the day but I'm sure there is more to the story (backgound) than that?
What are the important topics/going on's to the town folks? And I don't just mean "gossip" though that is important too... but also... has the Armada been sunk yet? Has Marlow already been through town and the ship he was on drydocked and converted yet (hope I got that one right... please don't yell at me if I didn't)?
etc, etc....

I know that some of this information can be found out and figured out on the www.renfaire.com/socal website by looking at the cast of theme characters but quite a bit of it still seems vague.

I was hoping we could have a decent rumor debunking.... fuzzy info clarifying discussion about this since the doors open in just a few short weeks.

I heard from the AP that Nothing was not seen climbing over the wall of Lindsey Lohan's compound and sending her gifts. When they asked her what the boxes contained, she said "nothing" which corroborates the fact that nothing had gained access to Lohan's home. Lohan was also asked about what follow up treatment she was doing after being released from rehab to which she replied, "nothing". I am not sure of Nothing's treatment is written down in a book or something that yet again corroborates the attachment to Miss Lohan.

State Senator Leland Yee Ph.D., under pressure from the Daly City Council, is proposing to “surplus” the Cow Palace and sell it to Daly City. Daly City will then sell most of the land to condo developers and pocket the profits. Letter writing WILL stop this. Senator Yee has ONLY heard from Daly City. Let him know you oppose selling the Cow Palace!!!

Here is a link to Senator Yee's website and his press release on the legislation he submitted Friday February 22nd to the State Legislature, (no voting date is set - but it could be soon). This bill wrongly proposes to SELL the Cow Palace to Daly City!

We must defeat SB1527 or the Dickens Fair will likely die.
It would take years, if it’s even possible, to relocate and resurrect the Dickens Fair.
Red Barn Productions has studied all the venues that could physically host the Dickens Fair and there are NO other places that currently work. All are either too expensive, too small, are unavailable between Thanksgiving and Christmas OR require unaffordable retrofits in order to be permitted for public assembly. So,
Save the Cow Palace and Save The Dickens Fair. It's that simple AND serious.

Here's the scoop:

The Cow Palace has a perfectly good plan to meet the needs of the local community and Daly City by providing them 13 acres of its’ unused land. Yes, rock concerts bring public problems, according to Daly City, but they also bring public $$$ to the local community. Senator Yee's Legislation SB1527 is doubly wrong. It proposes we, as California State Citizens, sell OUR Cow Palace to Daly City so they can bulldoze it and profit by selling it to private developers. If that isn't bad enough, SB1527 also deprives us of our RIGHT to use a facility that WE own!!

This is like selling off a chunk of Golden Gate Park because a nearby neighborhood proclaims “unanimously” it needs more space for development. It doesn't work that way. We get to vote too...by writing letters and emails and calling his office. Officials can't just decide to take a public asset and sell it…unless it is truly “surplus”. The Cow Palace is not “surplus”. We must stop this proposed sell-off of our property.

Here's what you can do to stop SB1527 and SAVE THE COW PALACE:

#1 Act Quickly. Senator Yee may believe he is serving the public, but he has only heard from Daly City. Let’s give him the other 99% of the picture before he gets any further down this road.

Write a Letter
Write to Senator Yee today. Quickly. Early letters are more powerful. Send personal letters to the address below the sample text at the bottom of this notice. Get it in today’s mail, so he receives it on Monday or Tuesday.

Write an Email

As a California Citizen, and resident of (…your city…), I object to your proposed legislation to “sell the California Cow Palace”. While you may be responding to the needs of Daly City, please respect my rights to use this public facility. It may need work, but how many California public buildings need upgrading? If you want to help Daly City bring in new supermarkets and shopping to the area, let the Cow Palace deal directly with developers and Daly City to make use of the 13 acres the Cow Palace doesn't need. This will preserve my rights while helping the lives of local area citizens. It will also continue the flow of millions of dollars into the local economy annually. These revenues, generated by me and many thousands of others who use the Cow Palace, also help pay for police to patrol the area year-round as well as during big events.

Please reconsider SB1527. There is a better way to help Daly City and Bayshore than destroying the Cow Palace. I use it every year and plan to continue to use it for many years to come. It is not “surplus”; it is a vital community and cultural asset.

Apparently… I am rich.

This being said… I have decided to use my money for Evil. I have purchased the Renaissance Faires for both Northern and Southern. Each faire will run 6 months of the year. Every employee will be paid and will be supplied complete health benefits. Camping will be mandatory and heaters and hootches will be provided.

Catholic School girl night will be an official Holiday function to be held on my birthday (August 11th) and Valentines day (since that is a stupid holiday) 1 per faire.

In reverence to our northern Queen, Squirrels have been banned from northern site, as long as she can convince at least 1 woman a day to dye their hair red.

Willow will still be head of the Privateers, however they will have one of the tall ships as their hootch.

Sam will still be the official cinematographer for faire with Gar in charge of Stills.

Giddy is in charge of keeping the Poxy Boggards from drinking all the beer at the alestands because she will be in charge of the new PARTICIPANTS ONLY ale stand.
As long as she is wearing high heels behind the bar.

There will be no orcs… but there will be Trolls. (cuz I really like Bevan) So sayith ME.

Morris enterprises is in charge of all food services at faire. He allows the rest of the food booths to continue to do business, however they must supply him with a nubile virgin sacrifice once a week.

Oh yeah…
And fun is mandatory.. and drama queens will be executed in a public beheadings.

“Angelia In FairyLand”, the long-awaited sequel to “Angelia Gone Wild”, is in preproduction and is looking to beat Will Smith’s 4th of July box office records. Confidential sources have the following to report:

Angelia will be in the starring role, reprising her earlier antics in a major motion picture epic that will co-star such industry giants as Lurch (AKA Gigantor) and German superstar Lance “The Ratbag”, who rumor has confirmed as definitely having come out of the closet. Unconfirmed as of this writing: a cameo appearance by the sublime Miss Liisa in a part yet to be disclosed.

The grapevine further states that the following luminaries are also attached to this cinematic gem: Mudge, Producer and all-around Bankroller.
