Introductions

topic posted Sun, July 20, 2008 - 11:17 AM by  Gereg
Hail & well-met. I've little enough to say at the moment, but this tribe looketh almighty lonely just at present. The poor wee shivering thing hath not so much as a thread to its name.
If it so suiteth any to introduce himself here - or herself, for though men may be the mightier in some arenas, verbal wit is conspicuously not among the same - then here's fit place for essaying of it.
Myself, I'm Gereg. Most of you know me already, so the boasts and sordid truths I may skip o'er for the nonce.

Like Gereg, I’ve made myself fairly well known around and about, but I’ll give you this. I am Maggie Secara (long ago, Maggie Pierce) and I’m the author of the website at elizabethan.org. Well not all of it. The heraldry section belongs to John Neitz (from Bristol Faire) but the Compendium of Common Knowledge 1558-1603 and the rest are mine. (elizabethan.org/compendium...back.html). I have been in my time the chief’s sister of Clan MacColin, a German campfrau, and the countess of Southampton, which persona I still more or less carry around with me. My faire career goes back to the late 70s, although participation ended about 5 years ago. Home faire, RPFS/N, with a couple of years at Koronaburg—all in California. In my various guilds, I’ve directed a bit, run costumes a couple of times, and waited on the Queen. And for some reason, I can’t leave it all behind!

Rydell am I named and most herein hath knowledge of me.

For nigh unto thirty years have I laboured with the Guild of St. George (and sundry of its progeny) and now 'tis my honour to serve as its Master.

And I Sir. am known to all who would'st know such a man, as Master Yarmouth. I do so love to cavort! Tis the fine group of FoF and the wonderful players of the Tudor Rose to which I do belong.

Michael, thou must say "all who would", ne'er "all who would'st". Those all comprise a plural, and thus take no -est. Say that thou wouldst know a thing but they all would know it.

I do cry pardon from all (and would welcome any varient conjugations to an assembled group) for my somewhat tardy introduction; (and do promise that I were pronouncing my 'ed's and 'cions as I did read this aloud to myself). I have been with the guild of St. George for I think me now three anums, and were introduced by Master Downward, having previously been an accolyte of his from yuletide proceedings.

I had long been a visitor of market fairs, but ne'er had I thought I should find myself in Her Majesty's court- a funny conceit, or lack thereof, for now 'tis another home to me and I cannot think of ever venturing from't.

Methinks I'll indulge in a rare moment of autocracy and rule this thread immune to the "NC" convention. We little want our new cotribal folk to feel that their 'pleased-to-meet-thee' -s are subject to criticism.

(Let them develop a false sense of security first.)

I am Rebecca or Becky in the post-modern world, Rebecca de Worde or daft Meg (depending) in the England of good Queen Bess.

Becky is a high school English teacher, almost done with her Masters in literature as she works on her thesis (Malory) this summer in between costume construction and tribe diversions. She speaks three languages, English (Modern, or post-punctuation/capitalization/spelling) English (Early Modern, or highly capitalized but pre-punctuation/spelling) and English (Middle, or Englench). She is trying to learn English (Old).

Rebecca de Worde dwelleth in Deptford and visiteth the southern faire, pursuing her family's interests in the field of publishing.

Daft Meg is the servant everyone thinks someone else should hire, as she is a follower of the law of Murphy in all things.

I, Mistress Elizabeth Payne (AKA Carol Wood), do humbly introduce myself. I am not as knowledgeable about our Queen's English as I would be, but have many many many questiones I hope can be answered. I have been a teacher of Old and Middle English, but Early Modern English is somewhat alusive to me.

I hail from the northeast country (near to Berkeley) and have been both visitor to her Majesty's progress since early in the '70's as well as sold many a pretty bobble for her. I am new to St. George and the Tudor Rose and have just finished my first outing as a member (SLO).

My primary interest is the cloth we don and my research and interest in this has brought me to a turning point: will most likely leave this dear land for another in search of studies (textile conservation at the Abegg-Stiftung/Uni Bern, Switz) next summer. In the meantime, tho, I will act as a sponge and soak up all you can offer!

My name is Chloe, and at Her Majesty's glittering court, Mistress Knollys -- the good Knollys sister, Anne, mind you all! (Though, to be sure, all but one of us could claim the title . . .)

I am not so well-versed in Her Majesty's English that I may be on par with all the rest of you; but I do the best that I may, and hope to improve my speech within the bounds of this fair tribe. I am on my very first progress with Her Majesty and the Guild of Saint George, and do enjoy very much the pleasures of their company.

      Good day to you all, and well met; I am Master Charles Cheeksworthy, also known as “Cheeky” (the tweeker of cheeks);
I’m one who also indulges in cavorting and jocularity; and yet my lovely wife still puts up with me!
My lovely wife and I are also fellow FOF’ers, and we look forward to many more years with each other, and doing Faire with all our friends.

Greetings Gentles......In the bright morningtide I was known as Mistress Elizabeth Datchett schoolmistress of the School at Muddleby End. Then as Faire magic would have it, I became Anne Russel Dudley, Countess of Warwick and friend to Her Royal Majesty, Long may she be Remembered Queen Peg. Would one peruse the twentieth century history books, one would find me on the Staff of the Living History Centre as the Assistant Educational Director in the mid and late 70's. I have since migrated to the chilly borders of the Far North, leaving sunny California and Faire behind, but it lives on in my memory and my spirit!

All pray, attend, and give due regard unto Katheryn Dudley, Lady Hastings, Countess of Huntingdon.
Wife unto Sir Henery Hastings,Third Earl of Huntingdon he being good friend unto Sir Henery Stanley, Fourth
Earl of Derby. Also, older sister unto Sir Robert Dudley, Earl of Lecister.
Lady Hastings, sometime long passed, Lady of The Privy Bed Chamber, unto Elizabeth Tudor,
Queen of England, Ireland and France. Her Majesty, being thus proclaimed, by law and God.

Known also, oft times, as Mistress Abigale Finster. Wife unto James Finster, Bosuns Mate and
gentleman to Henery Hastings, Third Earl of Huntingdon.[she, being also, Abigale Normal]
These two, Master Finster and MistressFinster are known [of late] as Gail Callicott, nee Rutherford
and Master James Patrick Callicott, now reside in the South of The Carolinas, being in
          the New World.

Hi, all! Please excuse and forgive me any mistakes I have made...it has been a very VERY long time
since I practiced my Queen's English of the 16th Century [18 years actually]. I don't mean to sound "grand"
or anything. It's the best I could remember of my old "self"...you did, after all, title this thread as "Introductions"...
Thank you, all, for a wonderful site! Especially to my good friends, Gereg and Maggie, who never cease to amaze and
educate. Pat and I are now in South Carolina, with only one, [relatively small] Renaissance Festival
[NOT to be confused with a Faire]. And it's a bit of a Commute, being in North Carolina. We're in
central South Carolina. About 120 miles South of The Festival. Not far, but far enough, given gas prices
and a jobs that don't lend themselves to much Weekend travel.

          I still remain, however:
OLD Dinosaur, of some "rank", way back when.
