  • Brooke Medicine Eagle is wonderful! She led a workshop here in Texas that I attended years ago. She's very grounded in traditional Native American spirituality, and also in more modern techniques. As I recall, she's a Feldenkrais method practitioner, and has done some wilderness training things also. She works a lot with the voice, so we did quite a bit of chanting, which can be very powerful. I still use some chants that I learned from her. I'm looking at some of the tapes she produced, and just to give an idea of what they're about there's For My People, Visioning, Balancing the Shields, Healing Metaphors in Action, Women's Healing Chant, Singing Joy to the Earth, and Attunement: The Native Way. Good stuff.
I remember I had a really powerful dream while camping out during the workshop in which I walked up into the sky on a spiral staircase lined with mirrors and met my 1/2 native grandmother who had passed on. There was a very deep heart connection in this dream, which sort of cleared the dust from my grandmother having grown up at a time when it was considered shameful to be of native blood. I didn't know her mother, my great-grandmother, but from all accounts she actually spoke very little. And her tribe, Kaw, is virtually extinct. I grew up largely in Oklahoma in the 5 "civilized" tribes area, and most of what remains of native culture in that area is quite Chrisianoid and often quite republican/ right-wing/pro-military, which always seemed rather strange to me - coming from cultures that were basically destroyed by some of those very aspects. Most of the tribal customs were long ago wiped out by boarding schools, and what has been dug up in more recent years is borrowed from plains Indian cultures that were the last to be conquered.
So Brooke's methods are very special, because she isn't just presenting museum artifacts or fluffy amusement park stuff, but deep teachings reveal some not so obvious meanings, and teachings that can be integrated into the global present-day culture and mind-set. Hopefully I can make it to the congress next year! The photos are great, and the presenters are obviously people of substance.
    Big Hugs......Hyperion
