Re: Festival announcement: One Family Gathering, May 2-4, Central Oregon
Wed, January 2, 2008 - 3:13 PMHello,
This type of post is best done as a listing or event.
I request that you actually post topics here.

Re: Festival announcement: One Family Gathering, May 2-4, Central Oregon
Wed, January 2, 2008 - 4:46 PMSorry about that, I'll remember for next time.
But since we're here on the discussion side, I might as wll start a discussion.
We're building this event from the ground up, it's never been done before. Therefore there are no preconceived notions of how "it is going to be like last year", so... We're in the stage where the decisions me make now will follow the event into the future.
Two questions:
1. What do we create? anything is possible....
2. How do we design things in a way that we're allowed to keep our creative freedom in the future?
I'd really like to know,
Thanks again,
Weather -

Fri, January 4, 2008 - 7:26 PMHello Weather,
You must give more info...your questions are so open ended.
I don't even know what this gathering is.
We can only help if we know what to help with.....peace, Julie -

Re: Festival announcement: One Family Gathering, May 2-4, Central Oregon
Sun, January 6, 2008 - 10:03 AMI guess that's almost half the point.
This gathering is going to become whatever we choose to make it. We call it a "Unity Gathering."
Right now, as planned it's sorta a barter fair sandwiched between a rave and a music festival surrounded by a rainbow gathering.
What it IS? Blind men... elephant... is it thin like a rope?
Maybe what I asking is what do you think it should be?
Anything helps...

Re: Festival announcement: One Family Gathering, May 2-4, Central Oregon
Mon, January 7, 2008 - 11:00 PMHi Weather! Here are a few ideas to consider for the One Family Gathering festival that is in its creative formation process. You could consider inviting regional business-persons that help others use solar, biodiseal, or other alternative energy to come and have no-fee space to share what they offer .....maybe also some organic or permaculture garden designers, possibly some no-fee booth-space for non-profit groups too.
One of may favorite festivals to volunteer with did this for years (Vashon Island -west of Seattle ). The festival was very homespun with multiple stages for music & talks, along with a kids space with activities, along with lots of food booths. It was very alternative, but mainstream enough that all the locals could come with their kids and still feel comfortable. The festival organizers utilized the local youth in high school to help with the festival, especially with the check-in and greeting booth. All the amplified music was run on the solar energy that was on site.
Your location sounds nice. Whatever you & your team do, have fun with the visioning & creative process, be aware of safety & health issues, involve some friends gifted with conflict resolution and the healing arts to offer their services to the full time organizers. Network with others who are experienced with organizing festivals. I hope this encourages your visioning process! -

Re: Festival announcement: One Family Gathering, May 2-4, Central Oregon
Thu, January 10, 2008 - 2:24 AMThank you so much for your input, it's very reassuring!
We've just started a big push to recruit demonstrators for our eco-village which is an earth friendly circle of individuals and businesses given free space to demonstrate products and ideas; and entrance to the festival in exchange for teaching workshops. Our coordinator is Coulby Style, one of the leading researchers in mycological remediation, which is the use of mushrooms to clean up toxic waste. I would love any leads you have on people who may be willing to participate in this circle. One of our primary sponsors, Syndicate Cosmetics, recently won some kinda most environmentally friendly cosmetic doohickey award from some organization I had never heard of too...
So lets see,
multiple stages, check
music and talks, check
kids space with activities, check
food booths, --- I'm working on this one, I need to figure out how to contact all these kitchens I see at other festivals and get them involved
alternative, definitely
mainstream, hmmm... not so much. all though people who choose to be naked will have to be well behaved ;)
I wonder about the locals, all 700 of them... I would definitely consider them in the development if I knew anyone who actually lived anywhere near there. I'll have to check that out... Thanks.
No _local_ high school where we're at... Due to the nature of an outdoor event with large attendance; all minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian inside the main area of this gathering. I don't mean to leave them out, I just simply don't have enough staff to ensure the safety of unattended children at all times and all areas of the gathering. This being said, people under 18 are admitted free with parent or guardian paying full price. It just seems right... What do you think?
Check in and greeting! OMG! I hadn't put much thought into that... THANK YOU! a simple detail that is very important...
I wish I could track down enough solar to run this festival, but it's too big electrically already for that to realistic during the cloudy season.
A giant fuel cell would be awesome... a pipe dream, but worth looking into..
Safety and Health, is our first priority!
We still could use more conflict resolution experienced preferably FEMALE volunteers for shenta sena.
Many of my core staff are Seattle punk rock kids, they are better at moving sound gear than they are at conflict resolution so... POSITIONS AVAILABLE!
.
Thank you so much for your help!
I hope to see you there.
Much Love,

Re: Festival announcement: One Family Gathering, May 2-4, Central Oregon
Thu, January 10, 2008 - 8:58 AMLiability insurance.
I was at an herb fest a few years back.
There was a huge fire, started from a simple spark to a propane stove.
No one was hurt badly. The people at the festival banded together and took care of everything so beautifully.
But....if anyone of those people who got injured were to sue it would have been disastrous. So with something big
like this, I would suggest good liability insurance.....peace, Julie -

If any portion of this thereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect.

OneFamilyGathering.org membership may be revoked at any time for any reason by OneFamilyGathering.org core staff.
Upon clicking "AGREE", I acknowledge and represent that I HAVE FULLY READ THE FORGOING Membership Application and Waiver of Liability Agreement, UNDERSTAND IT AND AGREE TO IT VOLUNTARILY as my own free act and deed; no oral representations, statements or inducements, apart from the foregoing written agreements have been made; and I EXECUTE THIS RELEASE FOR FULL, ADEQUATE AND COMPLETE CONSIDERATION FULLY INTENDING TO BE BOUND BY SAME. I understand I am giving up my right to sue and intend by clicking "AGREE" below to be a complete and unconditional release of liability. I am at least 18 years of age.
We'll actually have each person physically sign such a document before entering the site, that way they also agree to our code of conduct, and identify themselves as a member of our "private" party (heh). My lawyer say's it'll work... Did I leave anything out?
Thanks for the input, definately a consideration.
:)

Re: Festival announcement: One Family Gathering, May 2-4, Central Oregon
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 1:10 AMHey Weather, read your post and noticed your mention of Coulby Stiles as a leading
mycological researcher. Woah dude, sounds like you have been listening to Coulby.
While Coulby has a greater than most, knowledge, I would
be very careful about his presentation. I am saying this as a friend
and experiencer of Coulby's presentation.
There are clear documented issues of concern well worth considering.
If more info needed, please contact.
And if you talk to him, let him
know ijan is still waiting
for resolution
