Many have expressed interest in this idea for a family camp in Koshland Park. It is about people who care.... doing something creative!

The plan is to have activities in Koshland park from sunrise to sunset for two weeks during week days- aug 8th to the 18th. This is a forum for community building and about bringing the family vibe to location that needs some luv.

It is friday afternoon and I gotta run... but keep checking in with this tribe. There's a bunch of stuff to share and people to connect you with.... so stay tuned.... and take part when you can.

Feel free to give me a call anytime.

And take a look at the photo album to see pics of the planning meeting tea party in the park last wednesday.

I just sent out this email:

Cory Richardson here. Thank you for your interest in The Koshland Park Family Camp!

A tribe on Tribe.net has been created to help organize this event and serve as a template for future community building activities. I invite you to take part and create a Tribe.net profile for yourself if you don't have one already. Tribe.net is a great networking tool that I am sure you will find useful. You can get there with this url: tribes.tribe.net/familycamp

Dates and times for events in Koshland Park will be listed on the family camp tribe as they are scheduled. Please check-in daily for updates and changes. It will be the hub for what is going on.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and contribute to these events in anyway you'd like. This is not a program. It is an opportunity for neighbors to share a little bit of life together in the park using the format of a family camp. What would you like to see happen in the park? Music? Potlucks? We can do it!

There are requests on this tribe.net that you my be able to help with. At this time we need wire coat hangers, wine corks, candles, and large tin cans... to make candle lanterns and coat hanger trees.

I am also raising funds to buy a digital video camera so we can record the progress of this family camp. If 30 people donate $10... we got a camera! Please contribute to make that happen. I've put months of unpaid work into creating this opportunity and really need your support. Tax deductible contributions can be made using a credit card through the International Humanities Center web site ( www.ihcenter.org/groups/acti...network.html ), or by sending a check, cash, or money order made payable to: IHC/Action Hero Network …and mailed to:

    International Humanities Center
    P.O. Box 923
    Malibu, CA 90265

So far we've raised $100. The intent is to share this family camp(community building forum) through PBS and www.current.tv/ ...to spread the importance of such events and the effect they can have on neighborhoods. The documentary created will also greatly assist in getting support for future community projects.

    So far we have:

Monday night, Aug 8th, will be the first tea party in Koshland Park, 6pm-10pm. The format will be: Conversations, Bedtime stories, and then Dream Circles.

Tuesday. Aug. 9 6pm-9 pm Butterfly Peace Meeting & Film Screening "Of One Mind" , a 12 minute documentary film
about the growing political & spiritual movement that offers viable alternatives to the current U.S. policies of preemptive strikes, military buildup, and war as a way to resolve global conflicts and stop terrorism. Audience discussion will follow each screening. COME JOIN US for an inspiring vision of how to achieve world peace.

The film follows a chorus of peace activists and visionary leaders including Congressman Dennis Kucinich, Dr. John Hagelin and Riane Eisler. At 8 pm we will have a meeting of the Butterfly & the Action Hero Network:

    www.butterflyspirit.org & www.actionheronetwork.net

    Details at

    www.passion.edu/calendar/event/butterfly.php

Wednesday morning, Aug 10th, there will be a free breakfast in the park. See family camp tribe for details as the dates gets closer.

Monday Aug 15th, 8:30pm, David Lurey of www.findbalance.net will lead Kirtan in Koshland. See "activities" on tribe for details. Bring your musical instruments.

Keep your calendar clear for the evening of Aug 18th... it's Thursday Night Live... from Koshland Park!

Please feel free to give a call if you have questions or suggestions.

I'd like to do a night or two of "Dream Time" in the park... an over-night event, to make it like a real summer camp... maybe wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 17/18th. This is important to build a group-dynamic. Energy and relationships build over an extended period of time. I'm sure there will be some who have fears and say there are rules about sleeping in the park. I don't see why we can't get a permit for one or two nights. We'd need a family member to be there with any child. Your thoughts? Would you want to sleep in the park?

Creative activities and games during the day will be posted on: tribes.tribe.net/familycamp

    Have fun!
