activity list

The plan is to gather in Koshland Park at sunrise each week day morning Aug. 8th to Aug 19th (so some can join us for yoga and breakfast before going to work). Through the day there will be arts and games... and preparation leading to a main event at the end of the camp. Each night... there will be a potluck in the park, followed by a campfire-like scene-- a big circle of pillows, and a bon-fire size amount of candles. We'll share stories, dreams, ideas, info, concerns and watch movies.

Robert Thomas, director of the SF Zen, is interested in doing something... maybe a lecture or meditation.

David Lurey of Green Path Yoga and www.findbalance.net will lead kirtan.

Kelly's Peeps... an SF hip hop dance troupe will do a show... and maybe dance lessons.

Cory Richardson will lead dragonfly workshops... making beaded dragonflies from beads and wire as a meditation focused on personal transformation: www.solomax.com/dflys.html ...and teach how to weave tree house hammocks: www.solomax.com/monkey-spider.html

Emily Ausbrook, from Banking on Our Future / Operation HOPE, Inc. has offered a lecture/ workshop. See: www.operationhope.org.

Mattew from Cafe Graditude has donated the Abounding River Game: www.withthecurrent.com

Arnold Creek Productions has donated their film "Architecture to Zucchini: The people, companies and organizations pioneering sustainability" - http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/pipermail/videonews/2005-June/001052.html

We'll build a shine to those who have passed... with photos of loved ones and heroes.

A candle lantern building workshop

What could you add to this list?

Abounding River Game

Have you played it? It is really intense. It requires a lot of trust and openness. To answer the questions honestly, involves a high degree of opening oneself up to vulnerability. If this game is going to be played, I think there needs to be some sort of preparation for folks ahead of time. I'm not sure how though. But really, the game is uber-intense. It also involves a lot of concepts that are alien to lots of folks. If you already are into all that kind of stuff, than it works great, but if you aren't... well, let's just say that I went to Cafe Gratitude with a bunch of friends of mine, and few of us were able to take the game seriously at all. I was, but I'm into that kinda stuff.

So I'm not sure how to solve this potential problem, but if you are planning on doing this activity, be sure to at least play the game yourself ahead of time, and try and conceive of potential problems and solutions.
Thanks again for all your hard work!

I am planning to lead an opening and Blessinway (Navajo blessing) ceremony at Koshland Park from around Noon until 2pm on Sunday that will be open to all. Nothing is required but if you would like to bring something appropriate offerings would be Sage both loose and smudge sticks, Lavender, colored thread or yarn, colored sand, tobacco, and or small personal item of blessings. In addition, if you would like to bring instruments as hand drums, shakers etc. we could have a music circle also.

The ceremony will be performed to create a clear space and openhearted energy both clearing any obstacles or resistance to our project plus open up the ways for peaceful gathering of neighbors, tribe and family.

If enough want to participate, we may want to make a potluck luncheon out of it. Please let me know if you are planning on coming and if you would like to make a luncheon out of it.

The Drug-Free Marshals are coming to Koshland Park

Drug-Free Marshals Help Raise Money For Needy Kids

San Francisco’s Drug-Free Marshals worked hard last weekend to raise money for a San Francisco Deputy Sheriff Association (SFDSA) charity drive.

On August 19th the SFDSA will hold a special back-to-school event for underprivileged kids. They will distribute more than 200 backpacks full of school supplies. The Drug-Free Marshals, who helped the SFDSA last Christmas with a similar charity drive, set out to help them this time by raising money for the program. They have also been invited to participate in the back-to-school event and help distribute the school supplies.

The Drug-Free Marshals sold homemade cookies to visitors at the street market at Justin Herman Plaza Saturday. They spread their message to "just say no" to harmful street drugs, to both adults and kids.

The Drug-Free Marshals is a national anti-drug education program sponsored by the Church of Scientology. It is aimed at kids as young as six, with the purpose of helping youth make the important decision to remain drug free and to assist family members and friends to make the same decision.

The kids had a ball putting on this event and they wanted to thank everyone who bought some cookies, or stopped by learn about their program.

Suggestions to get people out?

The time has come to make posters... to let the neighborhood as a whole know this project will take place, and to spark imagination and interest. So far I've putting it out using tribe.net and handing out slips of paper with this tribe url.

One of the main things that keep people in the house at night and connected to the matrix is TV. I found an english text book on the street the other day and took out photos of Abe Lincoln and Anne Frank. I'm thinking about making a poster with these images that says "Abe and Anne never watched TV --try it for two weeks! Aug 8th-18th come play in Koshland Park." It will give other details about the free breakfast and tea parties too.... cuz everyone likes free food. And then this tribe URL.

Your thoughts?

Do you have access to a photo copied or know where we can get copies made cheap?

Many have expressed interest in this idea for a family camp in Koshland Park. It is about people who care.... doing something creative!

The plan is to have activities in Koshland park from sunrise to sunset for two weeks during week days- aug 8th to the 18th. This is a forum for community building and about bringing the family vibe to location that needs some luv.

It is friday afternoon and I gotta run... but keep checking in with this tribe. There's a bunch of stuff to share and people to connect you with.... so stay tuned.... and take part when you can.

Feel free to give me a call anytime.

And take a look at the photo album to see pics of the planning meeting tea party in the park last wednesday.

Fire-side conversations, bedtime stories and dreams circles

We can't have a bonfire in Koshland Park, but we can have candles in the sand in the playground. Put candles in glass jars and put 30 of them together... it will give the same effect and we won't go home selling like smoke.

The plan is to have "Tea Parties in the park" starting at 6pm. Aug8, 9, 10, 11(Monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday). I will have a pot of hot water and tea... and you bring a treat. Popcorn is easy. So are cookies. Who will find a business to donate something?

The format to follow could be:

Conversations on a set topic such as identity, resource-fullness, or who are they?

Bedtime Stories will be a time to share passages from your favorite book, or tell a story that has never been told.

Dream Circles will be a space for sharing visions, to get reflections from other perspectives and find allies to manifest your desires.

++++++
We need suggestions for fire reading. Samantha, a dear friend in Colorado sent this:

"Since I cannot be there in person yet, may I make a fire-side reading recommendation? Love S*"

The Invitation by Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us to
be careful
be realistic
remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

I'd like to do an art project that involves making trees from wire coat hangers and wine corks.

Please collect wire coat hangers and wine corks, and bring them to a tea party in the park aug 8th-11th, 6pm-10pm.

We also need candles and candle wax.

We also need large time cans to make lanterns.

Who has other suggestions for art projects?

Anyone good at Mask making?

I'm thinking Thursday Night Live could be a masquerade.

I'm gathering that it's in SF, and somewhere in Hayes Valley. That's the best I could get from Google.
