Sarah should do a full blown costuming DVD. No Dancing just costuming. I think that would really help a lot of dancers. I know she has a mini workshop on her Turkish DVD but I'd love to a DVD just devoted to tips and tricks. What do you think?

Re: So I think.....
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 7:08 PMI think Sarah is interested in creating costuming/costume design videos. I am sure she will revisit this idea once we are done filming her new DVD ("7 Veils") and her contribution to the "Fantasy Bellydance" performance DVD ("Salome" - group dance/music theater number) next week. In recent months she was working full time on these new performance/instructional works, so I don't think she had a chance to consider any new ideas.
My personal conviction has always been that such subjects as styles, trends, design are best addressed in a book, not in a video. There is a long-standing tradition of design/sewing illustrated books with patterns. What do you think is better - a book or a video - to handle the subject costuming? I am afraid that when it comes to learning the craft of, say, sewing or clothes construction, video is too "quick," you can't follow it, while it's easier to use a series of still images as a guide for this type of learning.

Wed, April 23, 2008 - 5:00 AMHaha there s another Dina, just as curious and greedy for new videos as me :)))))))
must be the name fosterin this character trait ;)
as for style and costumes, a book seems better to me.. ideally accompanied by a supplementary dvd showin some things on hard-to-describe qualities, like how to combine how to quickly change sth with a few tricks into sth different looking like in the middle of a dance..
i love sarah s costumin section on the Turkish dance dvd... more of this would be great :)

Re: So I think.....
Wed, April 23, 2008 - 8:58 PMI think a book would be cool...but I don't always thing things come across as well when you are trying to show little items. Like hand sewing beads on or something. I think for most people a book would work but for people like me that need an actual visual a DVD works out better. Not to say I wouldn't buy a costuming book but I only use them now for idea since I can't grasp what the pictures are trying to explain to me. I think like the other Dina said would work out well for beginners to sewing or people like me. Thanks and I look forward to whatever comes out! -
