hello friends, hi neon!!!
i just coincidentally discovered there s a cover for neon s upcoming drum solo combos for beginners to intermediates..
IT S A FANTASTIC COVER!!
www.worlddancenewyork.com/product.php
my favourite so far!! I love combinations of "sunny" colours, and pink/orange/yellow as my favourite colours on one of my favourite instructors makes me want to get the dvd right away :)))
i have one suggestion regarding practice workouts (bellydance):
I recently started working with Jenna s great Basics and Beyond. I m pretty much of a beginner, and I find it FANTASTIC.
what I like best about it:
she does sooo many variations in the one and a half hours of movement practice without music, all variations I ve ever learned in live classes years ago.. no beginner dvd so far (I own your Instant BD, but have not tried it so far, so maybe yours is equally "varied" :)
has delivered this great variety.
however, the practice with music session necessarily cannot use and combine all variations in 30 or 40 minutes if I am not wrong..
I would therefore suggest a "Full Practice Session with Jenna" would be a great great dvd.. Her doing all kind of variations with music, at best one for beginners as a supplement to her beginner dvd, one more intermediate one as a supplement for her recent intermediate dvd would be great..
What do you guys think of this?
I for my part will turn on some music and pause the dvd frequently to really make as much of the many variations as possible.. but I have a hard time practising on my own, being guided by a teacher who knows how to combine and maybe does surprising tempo or movement variations keeps me "on board" to a much better degree :))
i m looking forward to the next releases :)
have ordered luscious bellydance and some others from this spring, am looking forward to them :)

Re: Neon s new workout (drum rhythms) plus one suggestion!
Sun, October 5, 2008 - 12:21 PMHi Dina, thank you for the great suggestion - I totally agree with your thoughts on instruction vs practice, great ideas!
Speaking of the workout genre - that's exactly how I view workouts like "Luscious" - an opportunity to practice and drill for dancers, while having an experience more relaxed than what an instructional setting would demand. Because so many of us dance for pleasure, de-stressing and cultivating our bodies (and minds!), I like the program genre where you can just flow and enjoy, listen to music and be on auto-pilot in a way while still reaping all the benefits of learning and practice.
I hope the Rhythms workout will live up to this standard: it has two 40-minute flows - beginner (very beginner) and intermediate. Live drumming includes base doumbek to make it easier for beginners to hear the "skeleton" of the dance rhythms. The "sound track" (it's actually played live) designed by Raquy, NYC, is the same for both flows, so there are two versions of the dance combinations for every variation of the rhythms.
The rhythms are ciftetelli, baladi, saiidi, maksoum, masmoudi - 4 variations for every rhythm, 20 beginner dance combinations and 20 intermediate dance combinations, each repeated as a drill: beginner - slow 12 times, fast 8 times; intermediate - slow 8 times, fast 12 times.
There is a detailed breakdown of every combination in the Tutorial section (like in "Luscious"), plus voice cues during the flows. There is also a breakdown of the rhythms done by Raquy, where she explains the "skeleton" of each rhythm. -

Re: Neon s new workout (drum rhythms) plus one suggestion!
Mon, October 6, 2008 - 1:30 AMhi neon!!!
i CoMPLETELY agree with the need for cultivating the body, and enjoying oneself as a "balance" for drill and instruction.. this is actually where i enjoy dancing most, I am not so much of the "ambitious" dancer enjoying drills so much (even though I know this is something I precisely need to work on more :) )
your new workout sounds so great, I ll be getting it immediately when it s released :)))
I think you and your company are the only ones (maybe I am forgetting some other producer, not done by intention..) producing such great contents, *inspired programs* as opposed to simple movement vocabulary presentations (which are important, too, of course..).
I HOPE YOU LL CONTINUE TO BE INSPIRED FOR MAAANY VIDEOS TO COME :)))))))
ps. I just wanted to tell you something on a personal note: i watched the luscious tutorial - you come across SO likeable as an instructor, I am so mad at myself for not having discovered WDNY 2 years ago when I spent a couple of months in Ny :( If I m able to go again, I ll be taking lessons with you 3 ladies, and especially with you, as often as possible!!! :)))
take good care of yourself in the meantime,
yours
dina
