Re: "Rhythms" DVD trailer
Mon, October 20, 2008 - 6:09 PMI am really excited for this DVD. I have always been intimidated by the drum solo and this looks like a superb way to move through that fear...and get a great workout. :) -

Tue, October 21, 2008 - 6:11 AMMe too!!! The hip shimmy is my bad part. I grasp movements quickly, but this one wont get going with me.
:(
maybe coz I have a knee injury from yrs ago, as I mentioned in another thread, and am probably for this reason not able to relax while doing it.
SO for me too the drum solo has been a trauma so far. :)
THE TRAILER LOOKS SOOO GOOD!!!
thank you neon for producing long trailers so that one can actually get an idea of what the dvd is about!
I think you re one of the few producers who ve actually understood a) it pleases the fans so much b) it s actually more effective in increasing sales and interest :)

Re: "Rhythms" DVD trailer
Tue, October 21, 2008 - 12:15 PMI can't wait for this dvd either! I'm married to a drummer yet I completely freeze up when he plays and can't seem to move a step. I think "Rhythms" may be just what I need to help me get over my "drum-o-phobia".

Drum solo is a good context to practice shimmy bec. you have to "reset" your shimmy again and again as you switch between the shimmy and various other accents. In the "Rhythms" combinations, shimmy is used as an accent in its own right, not as a filler, so I think you will find this program a good tool for practicing shimmy.
Drum solo, like any other improv dance skill, is all about getting a lot of "units" of accents and accent combinations into your muscle memory, so that you can adapt them to various rhythms on "auto-pilot," w/o engaging your mind. This way your mind is free to pay attention to larger elements of the show: pacing, drama, playing with the audience.
I agree that one of the challenges of learning drum solo is lack of contexts for drills / practice - where can we find a drummer or a recording that will repeat the same rhythm / riffs variation many many many times so that we can practice the movements and hearing the rhythm, and coming up with variations?
I, too, am very exited about this program - I hope it will be helpful! -

Wed, December 31, 2008 - 5:43 AMHi Neon,
Just wanted to say that I've been enjoying this dvd. It's good for drilling and building up those legs. It's also been useful in kicking the brain in to coming up with my own combo's.
