2007 San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.
Artists present their very best work, in full costume and many with live musical accompaniment
Auditions offer the public a rare opportunity to see 25-30 performances each day, including:
A daring Chinese lion dance performed atop 8 foot posts
Trick and fancy rope dances from the American Southwest
Sizzling Flamenco
Rarely seen dances from West Africa
The intricate footwork of Indian kathak and much, much more!
Grab a friend and make it a marathon, or bring the little ones for just one hour--just don't miss it!
DATE: Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday (MLK Day), January 12-15, 2007
TIME: Friday: 2-6pm & 7-10pm; Saturday through Monday: 10am-6pm

Performances run January 13 - February 25.

AISHA ALI has contributed to the field of dance as a performer, teacher,
documentary filmmaker, and recording producer. She was one of the first
Middle Eastern dancers to do independent research throughout Egypt, North
Africa, and parts of Syria and Lebanon. She directed The Aisha Ali Dance
Company from 1972 thru 2001. Presently Ms. Ali is working on her latest
collection of field materials for upcoming productions. She tours
internationally, teaching workshops, performing and lecturing. She has
written articles for Arabesque, Habibi, and other publications, including
text for the Egyptian footage included in the JVC/Smithsonian Anthology of
World Music and Dance, and the Oxford University Press edition of the
International Encyclopedia of Dance.
