Alright, now that I know about your tribe, I'm making good use of it. I'm working on halloween costumes for Hubby, Baby and Meeself. Do you know where I can get the base for muskateer hats (two adults and one toddler size)? I want to dress them meeself with plumes, etc, but I need a base. And, yes, I'm looking for 'thrifty'....
Last year, Baby wore a lamb costume and I wore Little Bo Peep. I have photos of that somewhere.... I'll see if I can find them to post for a hoot.

Re: Looking for hats
Thu, August 30, 2007 - 11:00 PMThe easiest thing I have found....and I shouldn't really give my secret away...is those big straw sunhats. secure a wire around the rim and cover the hat in whatever fabric you choose. The wire is so that it will keep the lovely jaunty angle that a cavalier hat must have. Go crazy with the decor and the large lovely plume! VV boutique is a great place for "thrifty".
And just so you know you can zigzag the wire on with the widest stitch. I do as little by hand as possible. Lots of glue though...lots. : )
Since joining Emerald Pig, I have found all manner of wonderful re-usable items at thrift stores. You know what they say..."one man's trash is another man's treasure", or woman in this case. : ) -

Re: Looking for hats
Fri, August 31, 2007 - 3:42 AMSUNHATS! That's brilliant! And even if I had to resort to brand new, Zellers is probably clearing them out right now. Ah, Sevda Dahling.........Thank you!
(I bet they even make sunhats in toddler sizes for baby girls. Keep yer eyes peeled!)
My search begins! -
