Could anyone help me with this? Carolena has explained the significance of a lot of the movements in the moving meditation ie: the space you dance on, your ancestors, your teachers etc.....but I'm not sure I remember an explination of the lotus. In egyptian lore,it stands for creation and rebirth. Is this the cas in the meditation or is there another significance?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Significance of the Lotus in the Moving Meditaion
Sat, June 6, 2009 - 7:20 AMHi Marta
As I understand the significance - the lotus flower emerges from the bottom of the pond and rises to the surface and opens up to the sun and allows the sunshine in enabling photosynthesis. Imagine you have a tiny hole in the top of your head, by opening up the lotus flower gesture you are allowing the vapour of the Goddess to enter and fill you with her spirit - your dance energy. Sometimes she will enter, sometimes not, but whichever this will be shared through your dance with the audience. This is how I visualise the significance and when I did my GS this is how I interpreted Carolena's explanation - hope this is right...... xx :-) -

Sat, June 6, 2009 - 1:39 PMI wrote what I remember from the GS over in the ATS tribe but Maxine's explanation is so much better!!!!
I remember Carolena saying that if you're not in posture, the goddess will pass over you. She's picky and she'll leave if you disrespect that :) -

Re: Significance of the Lotus in the Moving Meditaion
Sat, June 6, 2009 - 11:51 PMYes, I remember a similar sentiment. That when you are in posture, your body is an open vessel (like having all your chakras aligned and open to the sky and the earth), and is ready to receive the divine (in her case the goddess). I liked that imagery--it added an energetic element to visualizing your posture. -

Re: Significance of the Lotus in the Moving Meditaion
Tue, June 16, 2009 - 2:28 PMHi all,
Nice topic to post about. Actually you have two concepts occupying one area: the lotus part of the puja, and posture inviting the goddess.
The lotus in the puja illustrates the way the blossom appears to dive into the dark muck of the pond at night and emerge clean and brilliant in the light of day. Although it goes down to "the dark side" it is not permanently changed by it. So can we, experience both light and dark aspects of life, and still emerge refreshed in the light.
The other thing is the posture inviting the goddess. When you go into proper posture, the bandhas unlock and it's as if you have an opening running from the top of your head down through the core of your body. When you cultivate proper posture, it attracts the goddess of dance to take up (temporary) residence inside of you and you'll feel "filled up and supported." But she'll leave if you let yourself fall out of proper posture.
Hope that helps! -

Sat, June 6, 2009 - 9:33 PMcross-post from ATS tribe thread...
She (Carolena) explains it in the Art of Belly Dance:
Step 6: "Next is the Lotus Blossom, which symbolizes the ongoing nature of life....."
