I now have received my vols. 4 and 7. I was happy to see instruction on flutters, however, when I put my tongue to the roof of my mouth, I can still breathe with no problem, so I'm not getting that vacuum effect to create the flutter. After experimenting, it seems to work for me if I jam most of my tongue back and up to close the air off with it and my soft palette, and it makes creating the flutter easier, but not automatic. Am I doing this correctly, or what am I doing wrong?
And shimmies, oh, they are a fun dance staple - however, it is going to take me forever to get them up to speed. I am quite a large woman and there's a lot of "reverb" happening. I guess the best thing I can do is to keep drilling shimmies slowing, ever increasing the speed.

Re: Flutters and shimmies.
Thu, March 8, 2007 - 4:55 PMIt sounds like your getting the hang of it...finding the right position of the tongue takes a bit of experiementing. But as far as the actual flutter happening, I find it's taken some pactice at getting the stomach muscle to relax and then there's the ohmyi'mrunningoutofair thing. I still can't do these if I'm breathing to hard..... ;-)

Re: Flutters and shimmies.
Sun, March 11, 2007 - 7:05 PMDo you have to close off your air flow to get a flutter? I can't for the life of me figure out how to cut off the air flow but keep sucking to make a vacuum. Instead, I vibrate my diaphragm just like I'm singing vibrato. The upside is that I can breathe just fine while fluttering. The downside is it doesn't look like Carolena's or Zoe's or Jilliana's flutters. Instead of seeing the quick vibration in the hollow underneath the ribs, there's no "hollow" and my whole stomach vibrates and ripples. I'm debating if it's my technique, or just my soft tummy. Any thoughts? -

Mon, March 12, 2007 - 5:39 AMCould someone please explain the "how-to" of the flutter? I haven't got the video and I've been playing around with it, trying to figure out how it's done.
