Re: 300
Mon, March 12, 2007 - 10:31 PMGreat movie. So with the success of 300 ($70 million opening weekend) and Sin City plus the upcoming Sin City 2, does anyone think there is a chance of The Dark Knight Returns ever making it onto the screen? Or do you think the rights to Batman and Superman might tie things up too much? If they made that movie and did it true to Miller's work, I potentially would never have to see another movie ever again.
PS - There is a book called The Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield that goes into more detail about the events leading up to and during the Battle of Thermopylae. It is a dramatization told from the point of view of one of the slaves of the Spartans, but also incorporate much of what we know/think to have historically taken place. Great descriptions of the battles. Definitely pick this book up if you want to read more about the battle but don't feel like reading a textbook. -

Re: 300
Tue, March 13, 2007 - 6:31 AMIt'll be a long time before we see Dark Knight Returns since we'll undoubtedly have to wait for the next to Christopher Nolan Batman movies.
Sin City 2 will do really well, but what I want the most is for one more of Frank Miller's other works to hit the big screen. I think he's dangerously close to entrenching himself in modern cinema and I can't fucking wait. -

*Drool*
They did a capital job with V, so I have some hope. This may seem too obvious, but I'd cast Mr. Johnny Depp as Spider. After all, Spider's just a futuristic Hunter S. Thompson anyway. -

Wed, March 14, 2007 - 12:19 PMDid everyone see that the Iranians are pissed that the Persians were portrayed "incorrectly"?
These are the same folks in the Iranian power-circle who said the Holocaust was a hoax.
Revisionist bullshit.

Thu, March 15, 2007 - 7:35 AMI love it when people get pissed about fictionalizations not being true.
I think that's going to make watching the movie so much the sweeter in the future.

Re: 300
Sun, March 18, 2007 - 8:25 PMFirst, I would bet that 99% of Americans don't even know that the Iranians are Persian, so it's kinda funny that until they made a fuss about the whole thing most of the moviegoers didn't even associate the two. Second, even though this was obviously a theatrical version the fact is that Xerxes really was humiliated by a relative handful of Greeks. Of course, I'm sure that if it even is taught at all there, they have a much different take on the events. I would be curious to hear what they claim happened there.

Wed, March 14, 2007 - 4:39 PMJohnny would be good for hairy Spider, but Im not sold on bald Spider. There was talk for awhile about Patrick Stewart playing him (apparently he's a huuuuge Spider fan) but while I think he could do it, I also think he's a bit too old. You may have an idea with Johnny, since he did a great job with Hunter.

Tue, March 13, 2007 - 11:56 PMYeah, Gates of Fire goes in my library tomorrow. Dan Hart told me to read it 3-4 years ago. I shoulda listened.
The Dark Knight is the next Batman movie title. Miller's graphic novel will not see the light of day per se, IMO. -

Mon, March 19, 2007 - 2:45 PMAnd it NEVER SHOULD....it's one of the LANDMARKS of the last 25 yrs. of comics...
a movie would CHEAPEN it...how about a REAL DD movie based on the FM/Kingpin?ELektra/Bullseye SAGA??
Or, this one might work, because it was a FINITE STORY....how 'bout a RONIN Movie???
