Did any of you see this over on the FCBD tribe? Sounds outlandish to me, more like something stupid "we" would do, but here you have it. Surely this is an urban legand....

Re: Swords banned in the UK?
Wed, April 9, 2008 - 5:56 PMI worked for a retail business and we were warned at one point that they were going to ban swords in the U.S.
I dont know about the UK. But I figure it is still a rumor. Supposedly, because of our problems with the Middle East, they were considering stopping trade. I believe its all heresay. -

Re: Swords banned in the UK?
Wed, April 9, 2008 - 6:01 PMI believe the ruling actually relates to a spate of machete, knife, blade and other handheld weaponry being used to commit crimes and bodily harm in the UK. A relative of mine was saying recently on the tv she'd seen news about the laws being changed due to the preference of those weapons over guns in UK crime.
The ruling is about dangerous weapons, not trade bans.
I think there is a compromise to be made, its just going to take the BD community to stand up and be heard there.

Wed, April 9, 2008 - 6:01 PMI'd seen on CNN about a month ago hey were considering banning swords because of some attacks and killings involving those cheap samurai swords you can get. Sounds like they went broad on it and got everyone.

Re: Swords banned in the UK?
Wed, April 9, 2008 - 6:37 PMBased on the person who originally posted it, and the references she gives and the detail in her blog, ...looks real to me. At least the person who it originated with believes it to be real.

Re: Swords banned in the UK?
Wed, April 9, 2008 - 7:16 PMI saw it in the news last month too.
Having swords in the US are not all that legal either.
Even my dance sword is a deadly weapon under Texas law chapter 46. I can have it in my home but not travel with it or dance with it.

Re: Swords banned in the UK?
Wed, April 9, 2008 - 9:23 PMEven better still, in Canada, they ban the import of spiky bracelets - which 'are classified as a weapon'. My friend has one at Canada Customs right now they won't let go of :P -

Re: Swords banned in the UK?
Thu, April 10, 2008 - 1:39 AMIts definitely true.
However some people are looking to see whether they are covered under the theatrical props thing but its not looking good. -

Re: Swords banned in the UK?
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 8:27 PMQuestion? If they ban swords, and the criminals switch to hitting people with hammers, how will you build a house? Drive the nails with a rock? Until they ban those.

Re: Swords banned in the UK?
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 11:10 PMHeres a a link to an article on the UK "Samurai sword" ban from the BBC: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7331099.stm
From the article it looks like a pretty specific ban. If you have a japanesse style sword, you might have a problem. Anything else and your probably good as long as a cop doesn't mistake what your using as a type of katana. -

Re: Swords banned in the UK?
Sat, April 12, 2008 - 12:18 AMYou start one ban then starts another
soon it will be another sword, then archery, bull whips, knives & daggers, etc.
This sucks for martial artist-not everyone can afford a 100 year old Katana
and how many law enforcement officers are actually gonna mistake one sword for another?--------------------
