A substitute teacher was arrested Tuesday in Dallas on suspicion of being drunk on the job, according to reports.
Two police officers were alerted to the 56-year-old teacher Tuesday afternoon at Parkhill Junior High School in far north Dallas. The campus on Shadybank Drive is southwest of the intersection of Campbell and Hillcrest roads.
According to a police report, the officers determined that the man "had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and breath smelling of an alcoholic beverage."
The officers also determined that the man "was a danger to himself and others," the report stated.
Lt. Vernon Hale, police spokesman, said he didn't know the circumstances that led to the arrest for public intoxication. He noted, however, that the man was released from custody and taken to a detoxification center.

Wed, May 14, 2008 - 11:22 AMHi Obi!
Teaching (especially subbing) in a junior high must be the most hellish job imaginable. I remember how much I hated being there as a STUDENT! -

Wed, May 14, 2008 - 1:41 PMHmmm wonder if they did a blood alcohol test too.. Cause those symptoms are also the ones for diabetic shock... My mom taught with a lady who, if she didn't eat lunch or regular meals would act like she was drunk...

Wed, May 14, 2008 - 1:59 PMI had a teacher in "middle school" who would eat garlic cloves (raw) and kept a mason jar of "vinegar" in his back closet.
One of the best teachers I had, loved him to death, but when he sat me RIGHT in front of him... OMFG! it wasnt vinegar. It was rum or vodka, mixed with GARLIC!!!!
and this was an english class... so... we did allot of reading outloud, and discussion... *ugh* I swear... he sat me there because he thought it was funny.... -

Wed, May 14, 2008 - 2:30 PMI sat next to the projector with our US Govt teacher who had the notoriously worst BO in the universe. Everyone was always shocked that I never once was bothered by it.
I have pictures of my band director with a beer in his hand hula hooping with us on a party boat in New Orleans my freshman year. Maybe if he'd drunk more we would've been better. He sure was a hell of a lot more fun! -

Re: well...dealing with a-hole teenagers makes THIS happen!
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 2:48 PMReminds me of the most popular social studies teacher at my highschool. He was grouchy, curmudgeonly, and smoked as much pot as his favourite students.
I would never want to be a sub. My elementary school class used to pride ourselves on "breaking" substitute teachers. Not good.

Thu, May 15, 2008 - 1:55 AMOne of my History or government, or whatever used to drink brandy with his coffee. He was in Vietnam, I think it fucked him right up, if you asked me, but lots of kids loved him....odd.
