Usually, I use this tribe to vent...and God knows, I've vented plenty about my boyfriend, so I figure I owe him his props.

As I've repeated ad nauseum--because I'm nervous as hell and dreading the 3-month-minimum-no-dancing thing--I'm having surgery on Frankenfoot this Thursday. I'll be a crip for months, crip on crutches for 6-8 weeks and a total invalid for about 2 weeks...completely dependent on my boyfriend, as I really don't have any family here or friends close enough for that type of responsibility. Nice enough that he's graciously accepted the burden, is taking time off work, escorting me to the hospital and back, etc...but wait until you hear what he got for me.

A scooter. You know--like one of those grocery store things for fellow crips, old ladies and people too lazy to walk. It's okay...you can laugh. I did.

Had to work a lot of graduations this weekend and he surprised me with it...had it parked in my living room. Oh, it's a beauty--brand new, bright red (my favorite color), speed control (you can go from tortoise to hare...seriously, that is how it is marked), it has a horn (great for scaring the cat out of the way), headlights, turn signals, and that baby can corner on a dime. I laughed my ass off when I saw it, but, you know...it's pretty damn sweet, when you think about it.

Anyway, as much as I've bitched about him, just thought I'd show you a glimpse of his sweet side.

And yeah...after my surgery, I'm gonna post pictures so you can *really* laugh at me.

    oh god... three monhts!

I have to have surgery on my foot, apparently I have a bone that is extra and it migrated to an uncomfortable spot. The only reason I haven't done it yet is because I am afraid to do NOTHING for any amount of time. (well I guess my upper body and chest drills will be better)

Scares me shitless... not sure what to do. I'll have to keep up with you on that one.

Good luck with it, glad the boy toy is really helping out, that's great! I wish I could talk my roommate into that sort of thing, but she is deploying.

    ! *-*

      ???

How the hell do you get an extra bone? Can I have it? Just kidding...sorta.

When are you going under the knife? We could be crip-buddies. If you live close enough, I could come give you a ride on my scooter.

That's a fantastic question. They couldn't explain it (more interestingly... it was a pair. like a pair of jeans, or a pair of socks... so I'm supposed to have two, I have four) You can have it, it hurts doing releve for an hour and a half. grumble grumble. and I have a closet full of heels that I can't really wear but for an hour or so at a time. =( when I found out i almost cried because I thought I was going to lose my heels for life! I'm fucking 24... who looses the ability to wear high heels for life!

Um. Right now I'm not. The dumb people at the bone and joint center won't return my calls at all. (four phone calls to the cheery tone of we will return your call before end of buisness day!) I was going to try to do it this spring, just in time to not be all hot and sweaty for summer. But that didn't work. My luck it will happen middle of summer.

I'm hanging in the ridiculously windy and rainy New Jersey. =) yeah for scooters! I have a horse, maybe I'll just ride him everywhere, he is cheaper than a damn truck.

Hey, Fio, my first impulse when I read this thread was to send you some really gaudy Mardi Gras beads to decorate your scooter with! That would so rock!

I had a bunion fixed almost a year ago and did the same thing -- off the foot for a couple of weeks, crutches for a while after that; had to steal my bf's car for a while because he's got an automatic and I drive stick (he loved that! Maybe he should have looked into a scooter for me *grin*).

I had a wonderfully supportive Yoga teacher who helped me recover once I could be on the foot again. It really helped, although recently I've noticed I still tend to favor it some, and so I'm practicing spinning in that direction without falling over.

And yes, I gave up heels at 26, but now I'm glad. Because I've gotten used to living without them, when I put them on I notice precisely each place where my body goes out of alignment because of them, and I've decided I want no part of that and I'll accept my 5'1 lot in life!

Good luck Fio! Get lots of reading in! Last year I went through all seven Harry Potter books in less than two weeks. :)

Good luck with your surgery...just don't get fucked up on rum when you get home from the hospital like I did after my colonoscopy...killer headache the next day.

Anyhoo....I have been really really really really really wanting a scooter--can we have some pixs now???

Plus, can I buy it when you are done with it?

Does it have a place for fuzzy dice? I want to help you pimp your scooter. ;-) Just so long as you screech, "I'll get you my pretty!" just once for me while you're ridiing it that will be enough to warm my dweeby little heart.
