Condiments

topic posted Wed, May 7, 2008 - 12:57 PM by  Petra
For no particular reason, other than the fact that I am enjoying the cold sour cream on my taco salad for lunch.

Sour Cream: should be a food group

Ranch dressing: seems like you either love it or hate it. I love it on everything from raw veggies to french fries to salmon to crackers. Makes most any bland food edible.

Ketchup: goes on fries, veggie corn dogs and veggie burgers

Mustard: for sammiches and veggie corn dogs

Salsa: goes on chips, salad and omlettes

Tartar sauce: was made for french fries and fried fish

Chutney: the uses of chutney escapes me. I do not understand it. If someone can explain it to me that would be great.

Frosting / Icing: belongs on every kind of sweet bread - doughnuts, scones, cinnamon rolls, cake, cookies, even graham crackers. Also excellent as a dip.

So.......what are your favorite condiments?

Mayonnaise--it's just not for breakfast anymore!

Seriously, I would probably eat mayo on fucking ants if the little bastards would hold still long enough for me to spread it on 'em!
Nothing better than a BLT with hot greasy bacon that makes the mayo kind of runny so that it drips all over your fingers.
Or a fresh out of the garden tomato sandwich on soft gooey white bread with about a 1/2 a jar of mayo.

My daughter eats ranch dressing on EVERYTHING! i mean EVERYTHING!

Ok, got to go....need to cook some bacon....nom nom nom

Chutney - interesting stuff. My mom makes a sweet chutney (I don't know what all she puts in it) and it's great with corn chips, pork, and bbq chicken. I also like it on scrambled eggs sometimes.
Ranch dressing - eew. It's ok on some stuff in small quantities, but I'd rather have something else, just not bleu cheese.

PICKLE RELISH! Gotta have sweet relish for tuna salad, burgers, cheese sammiches and hot dogs! Yummm.

Oops, I left out soy sauce. I LUV soy sauce. I put it on cooked veggies, meat, rice, and sometimes salads.

So.....does one scoop up a blob of chutney on a chip- just like dip or salsa? Is that how it works? Somehow that doesn't feel right. Chutney seems too dignified. lol

According to my boyfriend (after conversations with various Indian restauranteurs) chutney means "squishy". There are so many kinds & consistencies of chutney.

        Mmmm...tamarind chutney & samosas...

BBQ Sauce for my grilled stuffs.
Soy sauce for my chicken and my rice
    Fish sauce for anything

If I could, I'd be eating mayonaise. Thats my favorite condiment. I used to eat it on everything and I haven't eaten it for a year. :(

    SPICY!

I also love sour cream, cheese... spicy honey mustard... uh... and ranch... but I make my own with uncle dan's brand powder. Its better than any other kind!

      another spicy peanut sauce vote.
      Also: Masala powder
      Mustards of all kinds
      horseradish
      wasabi
      umeboshi plum vinegar
      red wine vinegar
fresh salsa with a lot of cilantro
that hot red pepper condiment found at Chinese/Thai/Vietnamese restaurants. And the homemade versions that a few restaurants do are so much better than the store-bought brands.

Last time we moved, the cooler filled up with condiments BEFORE any food even went in....

How many people remember when Reagan declared that ketchup was a vegetable, so that school lunch programs could cut down on expense? There was graffiti on the streets in San Francisco of his face, a crooked crown on his head and the phrase, "Let Them Eat Ketchup!"

            Here we go...

A use for all that chutney, pickle relish and sour cream (or cream cheese...whatever floats ya boat)

Take sour cream....or cream cheese or fresh plain greek yoghurt....mix with some relish/chutney....taste till you can taste the relish.

Dip in chips, or ritz crackers or jatz crackers...whatever your favourite dipping thing is...hell...you can dip carrot, cheese sticks, celery sticks...

Its a great healthy dip alternative. I make corn relish dip all the time....its yummy. And if I use low fat yoghurt- it makes a lovely not too fat snack!

Ranch dressing- I'll eat on anything!

Nutella a.k.a. Heaven In A Jar.

Newman's Light Lime Vinaigrette Dressing... my all-time fave! Use as a marinade for chicken, or just pour in on a salad. YUMMMMM!!!!

Baba ganoush (sp?)... with whole wheat pitas.

              Tzatziki (sp?)

              Great.... now I'm hungry again.

One of the lovely secrets of honey is that the longer it ages, the better it tastes - its like wine that way. Giant bucket of honey is totally the way to go, by the time you get to the bottom its heavenly...mmmmmmmmm

huh, I was just thinking about sour cream the other day. Maybe someone can enlighten me, but I really don't get it. Maybe because I never really ate it growing up...
    As for my current faves:

Salsa-hot, on tacos, quesadillas, burritos, chips, nachos
Guacamole-if that counts? and just the kind with avocados and a little salt, nothing else
Hot sauce-on everything! seriously, on chocolate chip cookies it's amazing!
Mustard and horseradish-the hotter the better, again, on everything!
Whipped cream- the kind in the pressurized cans is so full of possibilities ;)

    I love this thread, btw!
