The Princess Grace Foundation-USA has announced the guidelines for its Theater and Playwriting Awards programs.
The Theater Awards program includes 1) scholarships for tuition assistance for students entering their final year of study at an accredited nonprofit school located in the United States; 2) apprenticeships for salary assistance at a nonprofit theater company for an individual artist who is "learning the trade" under the mentorship of a skilled staff person; and 3) fellowships for salary assistance at a nonprofit theater company for an individual artist who has a substantial relationship with the nominating company. Grants are commensurate with salary/tuition requirements, and generally range from $3,000 to $25,000. Companies receiving apprenticeships and fellowships will be awarded a small grant to be used for general operating expenses. Actors, directors, set designers, costume designers, lighting designers, and sound designers are eligible. Applicants must be nominated by their respective dean/department chairs or artistic directors.
The Playwriting Awards program provides one playwright with a fellowship that covers residency (including transportation costs) at New Dramatists; complete representation and publication by Samuel French, Inc.; and a grant in the amount of $7,500. Eligible playwrights must not have had any professional productions. Development opportunities such as readings, workshops, and Equity showcases are admissible.
All applicants must be U.S. citizens or have obtained permanent residency status. Scholarships, apprenticeships, and fellowships must be completed in the United States.
