What is fire wick?!

topic posted Thu, May 8, 2008 - 9:31 AM by  offlinePaul
For the holy crap of me, I can not pin this down. I have been trying to locate a mill in which I can purchase huge quantities of fire dancing wick and rope. I am having lots of trouble because I do not have all the information I need:
What is the blend used to make wick?
What is the most effective blend (ex aramid: nomex/kevlar)?
What are the terms used by manufacturers for tape wick that we use to fire dance with?

I understand if some people are hesitant to post this in public to protect their own interests, but please, I have been stressed out about this for a long time and I need some guidance.
Please message me if you can help!
Much love.

    Hehehe
Get a foot from the various makers. We all use different sources, and thus different blends. One guy sells several different blends, and then of course there's different blends for different uses, like diamond braid rope has one blend to fill and another for the sheath.

As for -my- sources, I've asked and they can't divulge the specific blend because that mill keeps it as a secret. They'll give the materials, but not the mix.
