I recently made a couple of custom pieces for a friend, Wulff, and have uploaded pictures of them to this group's gallery.
1. Grips: Wulff wanted simple chain loops with leather "boots" over them. Making those leather boots is a royal PITA. I'm not entirely satisfied with the work that I did.
2. Wicks: I made another set of big monkey fists for Wulff. I had made a set for him before and one of them fell apart (you can see the failure mode in the gallery, too). These are also a bit of a PITA to make, but I think I'm getting the hang of making these—this set came out much more symmetrical, and I hope will hold together for more than one burn. These are five-bight monkey fists over a three-bight monkey-fist core. Each wick requires 20' of rope, although quite a bit of that—about 6'—is slack that you need in order to make the loose knots, but will cut off after you tighten the knots down.
