Hi! I am really interested in learning how to fire dance... how or what way is the best to start? My funds are really low, so I can't afford lessons... any ideas? Thanks!

Re: intro 2 fire dance
Thu, February 7, 2008 - 6:34 AMHi Mingin21,
I would certainly reccommend the DVDs that FireGroove puts out. I am currently learning from the beginning firestaff DVD. I do plan to enroll in their courses later, but learning this way has been super helpful. They're sold on FireGroove's site for $25, plus the shipping charge. Good luck and have fun learning!

Mon, February 25, 2008 - 10:09 AMMaterials (very simple descriptions):
__Poi:
____A pair of socks, some folks like them stretchy, I prefer them to be less so.
____Juggling balls or hackey sacks or something in a bag for weight (like beans or rice or lentils or such).
______Just make sure the filler will cushion an impact so bruises and black eyes are prevented.
____ Just throw the weight in the socks and start practicing!
______ I usually get long socks (above the knee) and make a knot at the end, then wrap another semi-knot over the first knot to make knob handles. Or, just wrap the socks around your hands.
__Staff:
____Get a broom/mop/whatever handle or a long dowel.
____Cover the ends in old shirts or jeans or towels or whatever and then duct tape them up. This adds cushion and weight.
____Use tenis grip or hockey tape or bat grip(or leather or handlebar grip, etc) for the main part of the shaft.
____ You're ready to go!
Practice:
__Check out the left side of my profile for tutorial links and video links.
There's tons of information available on the internet to learn from.
