I would like to invite Bigwigs to come back to North America this summer to celebrate their latest release "The National Heroes of Sonic Parallel." If you are a interested in making a booking please contact me privately.

Who said that the psy-trance genre runs short on talent and style?
Well even if it’s true, this album is here to prove the opposite!
Psychedelic Funk mashed up with a Mental Blues?!?!?
Well…

Bigwigs are Jurek Przezdziecki (EPI CENTRUM AND MASS TURBO) and Grzegorz Magnuszewski (KINO OKO) -two well respected Sonic Architects from Warsaw ,Poland - delivering their second long waited album after their original full length Bigwigs debut on Digital Structures records ,but it was 4 years ago…Bigwigs are well known for their innovative, fresh musical ideas and the unforgettable eccentric live performances. This album is a unique , fresh and extremely addictive sonic venture-the collaboration of scatterbrained and compulsive , the collective of noises in varying degrees of twitchy, restless (in) sanity competing for one mind.That’s what happens when two artists stepping outside their regular roles to make what feels like a genuinely instinctive, mental-fuelled record that zings with an enthusiasm for all spectrums of todays modern electronic dance music. As we approach the end-point of 2007 it's unlikely that a more vivid or arresting release will drop this year, marking The National Heroes of Sonic Parallel as not only an audacious accomplishment, but one of the year's best releases.

And here is the message from the Bigwigs themselves:

Bigwigs is an experimental project, from it’s out set and forever. Our music stems from the color and diversity which surrounds us. Inspired by many genres and periods which do not fit today’s electronic music form, we create a separate world of musical illustrations rich in harmony, rhythm and stories. We present you with our point of view and our definition of body and mind engaging music. We want the diversity of our compositions to give you the possibility to reach beyond the horizon of your sensations and contacts with electronic music thus far. Our goal is to offer original and controversial solutions, strong and deep emotions. With this album we hope that you will feel as we did when we made it. During the recording we never met once. The recording process was 3 months of exchanging musical ideas. We exchanged pieces of music until the final composition was ready. We are very satisfied with the end result. We would like to thank you for purchasing the album and devoting your time to listening to it.

Bigwigs

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the coming weeks I will be making press kits + a bigwigs promotional cd to send out to whomever is interested. If you simply cannot wait to get your hands on a press kit you can download a copy :: www.hornsandhoofs.com/pr/H&HCD007.doc The Horns and Hoofs website also has sound samples from the album, however if you'd like to listen to longer samples i will direct you to :: www.saikosounds.com/english/...lease.asp
thanks! and i look forward to hearing from you!!
Is there anything like that in Miami or Ft. Lauderdale? Ideally, I'd love it to be psytrance, but given that conversation on the other thread, I'll be happy with anything electronic that involves some good dancing!
As a child he wanted to be an orchestra conductor when he grew up. Once "turned on" at age 18, there was no going back. The San Francisco psy scene of the 90's greatly influenced him as did the culture of psychedelics in general, providing a home for this bit of star matter we call oCeLoT.
is there anyone interested in helpiong me set up some house parties and undergrounds in the St. Pete or Tampa area?
I really prefer to do it in St. Pete because I don't have a car and can't drive due to a seizure disorder. I have a computer with everything possible to have for software and also some great hardware interfaces. I need someone with a good mixing board and some speakers and PA stuff to help me get this going.
I have a bit of lights andstuff, but that is also needed for the true experience.
Up until last month I had over 300,000 worth of live and studio gear, but some of the little techno tweakers decided they needed it more than I did.
As a result of this, I have plenty of talent and a great mixing setup and great colection of diverse psy and ngith music, but no way to get it going for a party.
I'll spin at anyones house or party for free to get this scene jump started. I mainly focus on dark and extreme edge night psy, but I can play in every style that people might desire.
I prefer to play more hardcore music, and not much proggy stuff, but it's not a problem to do that as long as people will stay around for the dark and evil sets to come down.
my e-mail is coalitionforfreethoughtinmedia@yahoo.com.
I also work as the bokking rep and promo manager for Black Magik Records, so there is a great label to back me up and support the scene .
Special Guest:
PSYMMETRIX (PharPsyde Records - UK)
Psymmetrix are 27 year old Alastair Crowther and 30 year old Richie (Asimilon) Elmes, both Yellow Star Geminis from the South East of England, and they have been tearing apart the London squat and party scene and after headlining the Liquid stage at the Glade festival last year these two have developed quite a following.
They have been writing music together now for one and a half years, after initially deciding to formulate a back-2-back set in December 2004, their conflicting styles brought about the synthesis of a new collaboration, that month they furiously created their first 7 tracks which met with great success at their début in the Liquid Connective Trance Room December 31st 2004 and it’s been onwards-and-upwards ever since.
They bring 18 years of a love of trance music and dancefloor mayhem to their live sets, which are getting rave reviews wherever they are given the opportunity to unleash their unique brand of full-power psychedelic having-it dancefloor pounders!!!
Look out for upcoming releases from Psymmetrix on PharPsyde Records, Wild Things Records, Acidance Records and Doof Records!
This set was mixed from WAV files using Ableton Live and customized VST EQs, MIDI effects and sampler plugins. Mixed and recorded with a Roland DJ2000 board. All live sampling done using a Roland SH(it)201 and original Roland MC-808/MC-909 analog/midi samplers.
Official FCC Hearing on
Media Ownership
Tampa Speaks Out
OWNERSHIP HEARING 101:
The FCC's rulemaking process and how you can make a difference.
What Should I Say?
Tips for testifying before the commissioners.
Four Points to Remember
Some important points to take to the hearings.
Read About the FCC's 'National Disgrace'
The FCC has abandoned its mandate to ensure diversity in U.S. media.
Recursos en Espanol
The FCC is holding its fourth official public hearing on media ownership issues in Tampa, Fla.:
Date: Monday, Apr. 30, 2007
Time: TBD (likely late afternoon)
Location: TBD
The hearing will feature panel presentations by local broadcasters and community leaders with opportunities for public comment after.
This public hearing is one of the public's few chances to speak out against Big Media before FCC Chairman Kevin Martin moves to lift the last significant limits to runaway media consolidation.
Martin has promised to "hold public hearings in diverse locations around the country to fully involve the American people" in the FCC's review of media ownership rules. The Tampa event will be the fourth of "half a dozen" proposed hearings.
At the first official hearing, held in Los Angeles, more than 1,000 members of the public attended and overwhelming expressed their opposition to any rule changes that would let Big Media companies swallow up more local outlets. Similar sentiments were expressed in Nashville and Harrisburg, Pa..
..
The F.C.C. wants to change the rules to let multibillion dollar media companies like News Corp, Viacom, Disney and Time Warner get even bigger. They're preparing to let giant media corporations buy up more local TV channels, radio stations and newspapers across America.
http://www.stopbigmedia.com/=fcc
Learn about the FCC's rules
..
The largest media conglomerates rake in billions by owning TV stations, cable channels, newspapers, radio stations, publishing houses and more.
Check out our interactive ownership chart
http://www.stopbigmedia.com/chart.php
What's at Stake
http://www.stopbigmedia.com/=learn
The Federal Communications Commission is once again taking up the issue of media ownership and deciding how media ownership rules should be changed. As FCC Commissioner Michael Copps has warned: "They screwed it up once. Believe me, they're 100 percent capable of screwing it up again."
That's why it's crucial for the public to weigh in now. Here's what's at stake:
* Big Media stifle viewpoints: If a corporation like News Corp. can buy multiple media outlets in a single city or town, it gains immense influence over what information is available. Consolidated corporations strip local newsrooms of staff, while pushing aside competing points of view. That means less diversity of voices and a narrower range of debate.
* Big Media don't serve local communities: In exchange for their free and exclusive use of the public airwaves, broadcasters such as Sinclair are supposed to serve the public interest. Yet they frequently ignore important local issues, pander to sensationalism, provide biased coverage of elections, and stifle diverse viewpoints.
* Big Media ignore diversity: Corporate media conglomerates like Tribune Company are more concerned with profits than responsible programming. Coverage of issues important to people of color, the working class and rural citizens are squelched or ignored because these people aren't advertisers' target audiences.
Without ownership limits, giant national corporations can buy up local stations and newspapers, eliminate diverse, local and independent programming. If the FCC is serious about fostering localism and diversity, it must enact protections against consolidated corporate ownership.
For decades, the biggest media companies have had the ear of the FCC and Congress, while the public has been ignored. As the FCC rewrites is ownership rules and Congress debates legislation that will shape the entire media system for years to come, it's time our policymakers listened to the public, not just the corporate lobbyists.
Costs of Consolidation
In 2003, the Federal Communications Commission attempted to loosen media ownership rules that would have unleashed a massive wave of corporate consolidation of radio, television and newspapers entities across the country.
The courts sent these rules back to the FCC for a rewrite. Now, as the FCC embarks upon writing new rules, the stakes are even higher:
* A handful of media companies dominate what you watch on television. As their influence spreads to other outlets, the diversity of what you see diminishes.
Five media conglomerates — Viacom/CBS, Disney, Time Warner, News Corp. and NBC/GE — control the big four networks, 80 percent of the primetime television market share, most cable channels, as well as vast holdings in radio, publishing, movie studios, music, Internet and other sectors. (To learn more, visit StopBigMedia.com's ownership charts)
Minority ownership — a crucial source of diverse and varied viewpoints -- has declined significantly over the past decade. Today, only 3.3% of television stations are minority-owned.
* Media conglomerates now stand to make incredible new profits from the public airwaves with no accountability to the public interest.
Over the next few years, television conglomerates will begin broadcasting digitally. This means that in the space it used to take to broadcast the local affiliate of ABC, NBC or CBS, these corporations will now be able to fit six or more stations — ABC-1, ABC-2, and so on. This opens up countless new revenue streams, and indeed, plans are already in the works to have infomercial-driven new channels pump up corporate profits.
The total worth of the publicly owned airwaves that U.S. broadcasters utilize has been valued at $367 billion -- more than the GDP of many nations — but the public has never been paid a dime in return. Now, these conglomerates claim they can't afford to be accountable to the public interest.
* Media consolidation has stifled independent voices and threatened public access to information.
Consolidation is killing local media choices. Since 1975, two-thirds of newspaper owners have disappeared, and one-third of television owners have vanished. There are less than 300 unique owners of the nation's 1,500 daily newspapers, and more than half of all U.S. markets are dominated by one paper.
Moreover, the number of radio station owners has plummeted by 35 percent since 1996, when ownership rules were gutted. That year, the largest radio owners controlled fewer than 65 stations; today, radio giant Clear Channel alone owns over 1,100.
* If the current ownership rules are eliminated, local communites will be turned into "company towns," where one media conglomerate dominates the public discourse.
Big Media wants the FCC to lift the restrictions on newspaper-broadcast cross-ownership and allow one company to own two or more television stations in a single market. If the rules are changed, the largest conglomerates will immediately begin swapping newspaper and television properties. Then the radio giants like Clear Channel will begin selling off their already consolidated radio holdings for billions to the other dominant companies, creating local and regional media fiefdoms.
If FCC Chairman Kevin Martin tries to push through changes similar to those rejected in 2003, one company could potentially own the major daily newspaper, eight radio stations and three television stations in the same town. Once the digital television transition is completed in 2009 – allowing stations to broadcast multiple signals – one company could control 12 or even 18 television channels in a single city.
One set was mixed on with two Pioneer CDJ 100s, a Technics 1200 PRO Limited (only had two vinyl records, soooo hard to find), and a Roland DJ2000 mixer with all recording done on a Roland VS2480CD 24-Track directly from the main output.
One set was mixed using a custom built virtual Mp3 system using Traktor3 and PCDJ REDD based programming, and a customized Roland based virtual MIDI/Digilog interface sound mixer similar to Audio8 that comes with Traktor Scratch.
I also have MIXX PADD Pro added as a time coded outboard deck so I can do the same thing as I could with any other scratching capable hands on CD player. I can get the virtually the same effects as if I were actually using vinyl and scratching.
My virtual mixing program includes many of the same features as Traktor, like the 4 CD decks and the same type of built in mixer. The program that plays the Mp3s is almost identical to Traktor except for the features I have added in like MIDI and VST loop and sample programs.
I also have the Roland 24 track/64 channel mixer built into my main hard drive, so as to get the identical mixing sound without the hassle and risk of taking my studio to the illegals and Places of high risk.
Both mixes were recorded directly from the Roland VS2480 program so that a comparison could be made between the standard setup and the virtual based system. The CDJ set was recorded on the hardware Roland and the other mix was recorded with the Roland virtual software suite on the hard drive.
I will let everyone know which mix is which after people have had plenty of time to listen to them. I don’t want to bias anyone’s opinion ahead of time, so we will have a blind test to see if people can really tell the difference in the quality of CDs compared to Mp3s.
The third set was mixed on the multi media virtual system with two CDJs added to the mix board to mix Mp3s in real time on the players. No hard CDs were used for mixing, just WAV and Mp3 files mixed through the Mp3 playback and looping decks on the CDJs.
All three mixes were recorded directly from the Roland VS2480 program so that a comparison could be made between the standard setup and the virtual based system. The CDJ set was recorded on the hardware Roland and the other sets were recorded with the Roland virtual software suite on the hard drive.
YOU BE THE JUDGE! CAN YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCES IN THE SOUND OF THE MIXES? I MIXED THEM AND I CAN’T REALLY TELL MYSELF. I KNOW THAT THESE SETS ARE PROBABLY AS GOOD AS ANY I’VE DONE RECENTLY.
(I HAVE NOT YET ANNOUNCED WHICH SETS ARE WHICH FROM THIS MIX.)
Dropout Productions is very excited to announce the fourth full-length album from world renowned producer, Ocelot: pSyMaTix.
Composed of ten strong tracks in distinctive Ocelot style: driving, tribal,
spacey and intensely psychedelic -- pSyMaTiX is a solid, geometric sound structure that will reverberate throughout time as a genuine and extraordinary work of art.
An astounding, psychoactive journey with driving, pulsating bass lines,
spiraling melodies and expansive metagalactic soundscapes.
"Tribadelica" kicks off the wave journey with fresh, thumping sounds that pick you up and have you dancing immediately! A twisted collaboration with Digitalist called "HappyFunLand" peaks out the first wave… In no time, YOU turn into a three-dimensional vibratory pattern as you surf the waves of energy in a dancing frenzy to ‘warpDrive’ and ‘newMachine’.
The final wave will take you beyond multiverses, beyond the known galaxies, where you ‘Disappear’, ‘Catch a Zoid’…and then reintegrate into the solid realm with FireStix. Sure to ignite dancefloors world wide!
Use extreme caution: Listening to pSyMaTiX might give you super human powers, or it might just make you dance your ass off like never before. Either way, we suggest listening to it with friends on a 100KW sound system , in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Educational Tidbit: The name PsyMaTiX was inspired by Cymatics, the study of
wave phenomena. The word is derived from the Greek ‘Kyma’, meaning “wave”
and ‘ta kymatica’ meaning "matters pertaining to waves." Cymatics is
typically associated with vibratory patterns, or how sound patterns are
manifest in material media. If you take a plate of sand and resonate it with
sound, certain pictures appear in the sand depending upon the sound.
THE HISTORY OF GOA/PSYCHEDELIC TRANCE
Current mood: nostalgic
Category: Music
PSYCHEDELIC TRANCE V.S. GOA TRANCE
The term "psychedelic trance" is used almost synonymously with "Goa trance". Goa trance is a precursor to the late 1990s psychedelic trance, which utilizes more sophisticated melodic devices and distinctive basslines. Goa trance is an almost completely defunct genre of music, based on the fact that few if any contemporary artists would describe the music they create as being of this genre. The term "Psychedelic trance" is used to distinguish the newer material made by many artists, who were formerly known to have produced Goa trance. Full On is a sub-genre characterized by "solidly driven" basslines, melodies, and frequent use of DSP Effects. Notable artists include, Spain's (Ibiza) Growling Mad Scientists G.M.S. and Israel's Astrix in comparison to the more "clubbier" minimalist and less melodic genres, such as progressive trance with more of a psychedelic influence, exemplified by many Scandinavian and German artists, including Sweden's Son Kite. Many use the term Goa trance to simply distinguish those pieces which seem to incorporate eastern, Indian, or "organic" melodies (see raga), derived from sources, like Indian classical music. This makes it easier to identify those which don't incorporate such elements, which listeners would call Psychedelic trance. These pieces tend to be more experimental and futuristic (in the case of Full on), usually using programmed melodies juxtapositionally derived from minor arpeggios Cm7, Dm7, Em7, etc and other exotic or unusual harmonic combinations (see transposition), with the intent of being multi-timbral (see glissando). Both genres, however, continue to use samples taken from sources, like sci-fi films, documentaries, etc.
HISTORY
Raja Ram has been experimenting with psychedelic trance as early as the 1980s. He has been part of numerous projects including the well-known ambient group Shpongle, The Infinity Project and 1200 Micrograms. He is also the owner of the TIP World record label.
Psychedelic trance developed out of the early 1990s Goa Trance scene through the influence of artists such as Timeshard and Eat Static, both on the Planet Dog record label.
The first pure Psychedelic trance label was Dragonfly Records, formed by the artist and trance producer Martin "Youth" Glover (a former bassist for the band Killing Joke) in Brixton, London. For this he took advantage of the organization and the studio of his already existing label, Butterfly Records. It quickly became the center of the London Psychedelic trance scene. Raja Ram and Graham Wood first produced here as The Infinity Project. Simon Posford, who worked as a sound engineer at Butterfly, later released his legendary album, Twisted as Hallucinogen on Dragonfly. This album featured the classic track "LSD" featuring a voice sample from acid guru Ken Kesey. The first compilation from Dragonfly was released as a trance sampler and was soon followed by another compilation titled Project II Trance in August of 1993. These included work from such well-known artists as the French project Total Eclipse and Mandra Gora. In 1994 it released singles from Man With No Name, Prana, Ayahuasca, Slinky Wizard and Doof. The signature Order Odonata compilation was released the same year.
At this point the scene was growing rapidly and many new labels were created. Return To The Source, a party collective first appeared. Raja Ram and Graham Wood went on to found their own label, called TIP Records (now TIP World). Tsuyoshi Suzuki worked with John Perloff to create the Matsuri Productions label. Flying Rhino Records was established by James Monro, Dominic Lamb and George Barker (Slinky Wizard), who hired Sally Welch as manager. Simon Berry founded Platipus Records, who among other things, released the first vinyl by Technossomy. It also out licensed the famous Robert Miles' "Children". Simon's own project, Union Jack released their morning trance album There will be no Armageddon in 1996, featuring well-known tracks such as "Red Herring", "Cactus" and "Two Full Moons and a Trout".
Around this time a new label emerged in UK. Some consider Blue Room Released to be of the most important, and unusual, labels in the Psychedelic trance genre. It was led by Simon Ghahary and had solid financial backing from a British loudspeaker company. Allegedly, Ghahary had free reign to spend the money as he saw fit, regardless of sales figures. This allowed Blue Room to move away from "classic" Goa trance into new, more experimental directions. Some of the most well-known artists today were signed and had their work distributed on the Blue Room Released label. Their first compilation was titled "Outside The Reactor" was released in April of 1995 and featured work from artists such as Total Eclipse, Har-El Prussky, and Voodoo People. Three of the most well known projects - Juno Reactor, Total Eclipse and The Infinity Project also released their debut albums that year. Soon the German project X-Dream started working with Blue Room as well, releasing their "The Frog" single and the highly influential Radio album. At its height, the label went on to release such works as Violent Relaxation by Total Eclipse, Juno Reactor's Bible of Dreams, Saafi Brothers' Mystic Cigarettes and Dragon Tales by Koxbox.
Despite being the center of production for Psychedelic trance in the mid 1990s, England had a very limited party scene. This mostly due to the Criminal Justice Bill and requirements for early closing hours in nightclubs. On the other hand, Germany had much more liberal laws, which in addition to the recent unification contributed to the development of the scene there. The German label Spirit Zone Records opened up in 1994, and ended up signing on many foreign artists such as The Infinity Project (UK), K.U.R.O. (Japan), Etnica (Italy), and Har-El Prussky (Israel). It was also the home label of many German artists such as Electric Universe, Star Sounds Orchestra and S.U.N. Project. France was also becoming an increasingly important location, with not only Total Eclipse, but the now famous projects like Talamasca and Transwave emerging.
PROJECT II TRANCE, THE FIRST PSYCHEDELIC TRANCE COMPILATION
Around 1997, the original Goa trance scene was undergoing hard times, especially in the UK. Sales dropped and many big labels such as Flying Rhino went bankrupt, while others had to reinvent themselves and emerge under a new name as did TIP World. The death of Goa trance was "officially" declared by Tsuyoshi Suzuki on his Let it RIP album, where the liner notes read "RIP: Mother Theresa, Princess Diana, William Burroughs, Goa trance."
The new sound of what would become the Psychedelic trance of today emerged at this time. It included elements of minimal and progressive trance, house, and techno, while focusing less on the original Goa melodies. Germany became the center of this movement in 1997 and 1998. Many Swedish artists also emerged playing a more progressive sound. The most successful and well known is Tomasz Balicki (Atmos). His track "Klein Aber Doctor" was the most successful release for Flying Rhino yet, which was in the process of restructuring. Even the Dragonfly label stated to switch to this new progressive sound, and Psychedelic trance was once again becoming popular. Debut releases from Atmos, Noma, S-Range and Son Kite only cemented this fact and made Sweden an important producer of psychedelic trance.
Soon Psychedelic trance was expanding rapidly once again, and for the first time differences became apparent in the music being produced in different countries. Parallel scenes also developed in countries like Israel, Germany, South Africa and Japan. There are also smaller, but active scenes in India, New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Hungary, Portugal, Finland, Russia, Ukraine, Thailand, Denmark, Poland, Canada and even the United States.
DEVELOPMENT IN ISRAEL
In 1988 changes in the law and political situation of Israel, allowed many Israelis to acquire Indian travel visas for the first time, many having just completed military service and wanting a complete change of environment. The beaches of Goa were a natural destination. Many Israelis returned from their trips bringing with them recordings of this new style of music. Developing in almost complete isolation from the scenes elsewhere, Israeli DJs emerged playing their own variations on the sound. These included individuals such as Avi Nissim and Lior Perlmutter (SFX and later Astral Projection), Har-El Prussky and Miko (California Sunshine), Guy Sebbag, Avi Algranati (Phreaky, Space Cat) and Ofer Dikovsky (Oforia). Naturally, Israeli labels formed, including Melodia Records, Trust In Trance Records, Phonokol and Krembo Records. With the emergence of new innovative artists such as Infected Mushroom, psychedelic trance firmly established itself in the alternative culture in Israel, more so than in any other country in the world.
COMMERCIAL SUCCCES
In recent years, sales of psychedelic trance have been falling. The decline was : -2,8% in 2001, and -8,8% in 2002. A typical album usually sells around 2,000 copies, and selling more than 5,000 copies would be considered a success. There are only a handful of artists who sold more than 20,000 copies, including Hallucinogen, G.M.S., Infected Mushroom, Transwave, and Astral Projection. Hallucinogen's Twisted has had the most commercial success to date, selling around 85,000 copies.
The reasons for this decline in public interest include overproduction, copyright infringement, and lack of publicity. In fact, the market has not grown much, however the number of new labels and artists has increased exponentially. Much of psychedelic trance is also channeled through illegal copying by sharing of music, particularly among students and streaming audio on the internet. Although this has opened up the market to newcomers, most of these fans do not have the ability to purchase music since it is not normally distributed in mainstream record stores (mostly internet shops).
PSYCHEDELIC TRANCE SCENE
Psychedelic trance is often played at outdoor festivals. The festivals often take place over a few days with music being played through the night and well into the next day. These big events usually offer a lot parallel activities, not just music. The Psy Trance scene is very concerned about ecology and nature, and hence it's very usual to find a lot of workshops with educational activities against racism, and promoting love and care for Our Mother Nature.
The big trance festivals often form a small independent city, where some 10,000 people from different places of the world meet to celebrate music and life. During winter many parties take place in clubs in modern suburbia or on the many beaches in foreign climes frequented by travellers.
Some people at these festivals frequently consume psychedelic drugs like LSD and psychedelic mushrooms. The smoking of Cannabis is widespread within the global psy-trance scene. Drugs such as Ecstasy, cocaine and amphetamine are also used to some extent. There is also a large portion of the psytrance community - including many successful artists, dj's, party organizers and party goers - who do not use drugs, or no longer use drugs. Many of these people believe experiencing the music in the intended spirit of the festivals is the high in and of itself.
While psychedelic trance music is a global phenomenon, it is particularly popular in Brazil, Japan, India, Israel, Germany, Mexico, Russia, the UK, South Africa and Australia.
PSYCHEDELIC TRANCE ARTISTS AND PROJECTS
Psychedelic trance is often produced in a collaboration between two or more artists, called a "project". Somewhat different from other genres of music is the fact that one artist could be part of as much as ten or more projects, often simulteneously. Each different combination of artists almost always has a unique name. For example X-Dream (Jan Muller and Marcus Maichel) and Planet B.E.N. (Ben Wierzoch) are two well known projects from Germany. The collaboration between Jan and Ben is called Organic Noise and the collaboration between Marcus and Ben is called Fools and Tools. This partly accounts for the large number of psychedelic trance projects.
As shown above the names of projects made up of the same artists can often be unrelated, although this is not always the case. For example, many projects involving Infected Mushroom are often prefixed with the word "Infected" or postfixed with the word "Mushroom" (Examples: Domestic Mushroom, Infected Astrix).
Making things even more confusing is the fact that the same exact artist(s) or group(s) of artists will sometimes produce music under different project names to showcase different variations of their music. Quasar also known as "Pulsar"(Dance oriented variations) as well as "Trancention" (Lighter trance music),but are really the same artists Quasar and Pulsar VanderHousen.
Very few psychedelic trance artists release albums under their own name (Tim Schuldt & Shanti Matkin are two exceptions). Instead, the name of the project is sometimes chosen to describe the theme of the music being produced. Not surprisingly, Crop Circles and Pleiadians releases are focused on the topic of space travel.
ok, so, since I have been sick, tired, I don't have a car, and I may need to take time off from school and have been spending gratuitous amounts of time in front of the computer, running my boyfriend's computer into the ground, I have decided to start writing about electronic music and culture.
To my disappointment, it still seems like there are no intelligent magazines out there saying anything about this type of music, which I feel still perpetuates this attitude in America that electronic music is not intelligent, spiritual, emotional, etc. It is still being relegated to the status of generic schlop that you hear in some crappy club where people are more into looking at themselves and each other in some boring, mainstream meat market than actually listening to the music.
First off, I would like to start with the band Chakratronic. Coming out of Israel, these guys perked my ears with a balanced blend of electronica, world music sounds, and traditional Indian music. I have listened to a bazillion world music groups, and a bazillion downtempo/chill groups. These days, with the sound being so popular, a majority of them fall into the category of "blah", simply producing yet another stock sound that is good for marketing. But these guys moved my mind and my heart chakra, getting a big thumbs up. Can't wait for the CD. Love and light to Chakratronic!
song recommendations: Great Beyond and Tatwamasi.
Second is DJ Tundra, straight out of Hollywood, California, spinning an introspective mix of psychedelic sounds, trance, and ambient. I liked Tundra first off because he has a very cool icon pic of Aaron Rix's art work, and struck me as the type of guy who wanted to create sounds that not only sounded cool, but ethereal. This clearly comes through in his choice of tunes for his profile, transporting the listener to a realm of third eye opening relaxation. This is definitely music for sixth sense creativity, visions, yoga, or just chilling. Again, it is hard to stay original in the realm of electronic music, especially if you are a DJ. But Tundra clearly has an energy of spirit and creativity that he brings to the tunes he's playing, making it all the more worthwhile to sit back and listen.
song recommendations: Prayer For Peace 1
And lastly, for now, is DJ Jay Trigger, someone who was cool enough to want to add me as a friend. Well, I'm so fabulous, why wouldn't you?
Anyway, Trigger, located in Boca Raton, Florida, has only one track on his profile for me to review, but it's a fabulous one. Clicking on the link to his page, you get a wave of lush beats and sounds from Ticon with the song You Make Me Wanna. Now, for some reason, trance is getting such a bad rep these days, and I don't even know why.
Maybe because it's so sincere, which is why people think it's so cheesy? If you don't like trance now, I think you will after listening to Trigger. He seems to ride that fine line between genres where he can make everyone happy, from house heads to break beat freaks to even those "geeky losers" who like trance( I still don't know what that's about, maybe someone can explain that to me.)
With a fresh approach and positive energy, it seems like Trigger can't lose on the dance floor. He also has a show on owlradio.fau.edu, where he spins from 3 to 5 pm every Friday. Maybe I'll have more to say when I hear it.
Ok, well, that's it for now. Maybe one of these guys can get me in free to the club or a party for saying nice things about them, since I'm so wonderful and charming!
If you want me to write a review about you, even if you aren't a musician or a DJ, please let me know. Just go to Send Message, point, and click.
