Hi Guys - I posted this in the FL Hoola Monsters Tribe a while back, but I'm posting it here too, since not everyone has joined the HM Tribe...
Dear Friends,
It is with great excitement that we announce the 2009 Hoop Path
Florida Workshops. We invite you to experience the The Hoop Path's
unique and inspirational approach to the art of hoop dance.
Throughout the three-day event, you will have a chance to connect with
fellow hoopers, while learning first-hand from the Hoop Master
himself, Jonathan Baxter. According to Hoop Path teachings, the hoop
is a portal to strength, beauty and grace - from the inside out. It
is a meditative healing practice... one that transforms the body, mind
and spirit.
Pioneer. Innovator. Teacher. Leader. Warrior. Mentor. Creator.
These are just some of the words that come to mind when we think of
Jonathan Baxter (also known as "Bax"). Founder of the Hoop Path, his
teachings have inspired hoopers all over the world. We were fortunate
enough to attend the 2008 Hoop Path Retreat in Carborro, NC in June of
last year. What transpired was more meaningful than we could have
ever imagined. People traveled across the country and crossed borders
to take part in the experience. To say that this event was
inspirational would be a vast understatement. It was more along the
lines of life-changing. That's why we are so incredibly honored,
humbled and blessed beyond belief to host The Hoop Path in our home
state of Florida. Truly, this is an event that you DO NOT want to
miss.

About the Hoop Path
**********************************************************************
The HoopPath is a hoop dance curriculum founded and taught by master
hooper and hoop teacher Jonathan Baxter. Baxter’s teaching stands out
in this new, dynamic fitness practice as a unique blend of rigorous
technique and deep introspection. Through years of daily, solo,
blindfolded Practice, Baxter discovered innumerable technical nuances
in the art of hoop dance, as well as descriptive names and vivid
metaphors that make his insights readily available to even the
beginning hoop student. Through these same years of Practice he also
discovered the extraordinary power of the Hoop to heal not only the
weakened Body or the overworked Mind, but also the depressed,
darkened, and depleted Spirit.
Bax was no stranger to depression when he first picked up the Hoop,
intending only to use it to stretch out some temporarily paralyzed
shoulder muscles. As the motion of the Hoop helped his body become
more supple and strong again, he noticed the presence of depression
steadily receding from his daily life. Whereas before, depression
might strike at any moment and linger for weeks or months, with the
Hoop he noticed that depression struck less often, felt less
oppressive, and didn’t last as long. This discovery amazed him and
filled him with Hope — maybe there was a way to not only keep the
cloud of depression from obscuring his own life, but also to open a
window to that incredible opportunity for others: to live a life NOT
overshadowed by depression, to live again fully in the Light.
Baxter’s longtime student and partner, Ann Humphreys, demonstrates and
assists in HoopPath Workshops. Ann attended her first HoopPath class
in the summer of ‘05 and became a committed hooper a year later. An
insatiable and eager student, she rapidly absorbed the HoopPath
teachings and quickly developed her own distinctive hoop style. She
brings eight years of yoga experience, as well as high energy and an
infectious enthusiasm, to HoopPath classes.
The HoopPath curriculum, which is extensive and has not yet been
transcribed into text, was written over two years of uninterrupted,
daily focus. The depth and breadth of Baxter’s “hoopgnosis” and his
ability to convey the encyclopedic range of his knowledge is utterly
unique in the world of hoop instruction. With “The HoopPath: The First
Steps” instructional DVD, you will get a lesson from this seasoned
guide of how you can begin to turn your focus Inward and find the
richness and wisdom available to you there. You will learn how to move
from your Center, where your truest rhythm lies. You will reconnect
with the richest part of you — a part that has never been lost, but
might have been hidden for a long, long while.

We hope to see you soon.
Much Love and Hoop Hugs,
The Monsters

Re: The Hoop Path is Coming to FL!
Fri, February 13, 2009 - 8:53 AMHi Guys - I just wanted to bump this thread up... Bax and Ann will be here in just two short weeks, and there's still time to register. The Friday workshop has moved to 8:30 p.m., to better accomodate people coming from out of town or working. I talk about the Hoop Path a lot in my classes and I can tell you that the June Retreat was an epic experience for me. I would highly recommend attending this event, if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. I have hotel and camping info available. I hope to see some of you there!
