DigiHoop: The Next Generation in Hoops

We believe that your hoop should express who you are, be easy to use, last for an entire evening of hooping, and most of all, be rugged enough to stand the test of time. All too often we run across Hooper’s that have stacks of hoops in their closets because each one only has one pattern, or very few modes. Our vision is simple. Make one hoop that is upgradable and reusable that can replace all the others.

We have taken the latest technology and crammed it into a standard sized hoop. Each hoop has a microprocessor that can individually control each of the 100 RGB leds. We wanted DigiHoop to have a continuous ring of light and not show a battery black spot like other led hoops. We solved this issue by designing custom sized Lithium Polymer batteries (like the one in your smartphone) and placing them inside the inner ring of the hoop, behind the leds. We use four 1.2Ah batteries giving us a total capacity of 4.8Ah, with the ability to add more if we need to. This gives us an astounding runtime of up to 6 or more hours depending on the active pattern. Charging the hoop is just a matter of plugging in a standard USB charger or cable. DigiHoop doesn't have external switches or buttons. We felt that they just got in the way and would break easily. So instead we use internal magnetic switches. To turn DigiHoop on you simply slide the hoop inward from its charging position to the run position and it turns on. To change the pattern you are running, wave the included magnet over the DigiPoi logo and the hoop will advance to the next pattern in the playlist.

DigiHoop is a smart 100 RGB led hoop that is microprocessor controlled and weighs a mere 18 ounces. DigiHoop is both Hardware and Firmware upgradable. This means that when we come out with new features like Bluetooth smartphone integration, all you will need to do is send the hoop back to us for the hardware upgrade. Firmware will be Hooper upgradable, and eventually you will be able to design your own custom patterns then download them along with your playlist to your hoop. There will be a social pattern website (my.digipoi.com) where Hooper’s like you can design, exchange, and download custom patterns.

We have plans in the works to take the same technology in the DigiHoop and re-invent other led props such as, staves, spinning poi, jugging balls, jugging clubs, and floating wands. And make them all compatible with each other. Imagine having any combination of led props and they are all sequenced to a light or music show. Need all the props to turn red, green the blue at once. It can happen. We need your help to make this dream a reality, and we have chosen the DigiHoop to start with.

We have spent the last 2 years of our own money and hard work to bring DigiHoop where it is today. We need your Kickstarter pledge to help take it the rest of the way and fund our first production run of the DigiHoop. All of the DigiHoop production is done at our facility in Dallas, Texas. Looking for an instructor or fellow hoopers

I am sure I would advance much quicker that way. I live in New Smyrna but am in Orlando on a regular basis. Have you had the chance to experience a Drum Circle? A drum circle is a celebration of the human spirit in drum and dance. The drum circle is a gathering of people that use drums and percussion to make “in the moment” music together. Utilizing percussion instruments from around the world we bring people together in music and dance.
No experience is necessary to play and dance. Hundreds of drum circle enthusiast gather together for a weekend of workshops and performances during this event. You will learn about different percussion instruments from around the world and be taught by professional instructors. Learn the cultural aspect of each instrument. Learn how to tune and play these instruments. You will learn about the cultures that created them and the geography of where and when they were created.
This event is for all ages and we encourage everyone to bring their families. Children, parents and grandparents can enjoy participating in the workshops together. Many workshops are designed to build community through rhythm and dance.
If you are a teacher or your profession involves community organizing, this is something you may be interested in.
We have a special event planned this May. It’s known as the Rhythmical Alchemy Playshop. This is a special workshop presented by Arthur Hull, a professional facilitator that travels the world teaching rhythmic skills and presentations to universities and the corporate world. This program offers Continuing Education Hours to teachers. His program is not just for the serious musicians, but also to those who would find joy in rhythmical games and percussion music.

The Hoop Loop Orlando Hoop Jam

The Hoop Loop - Orlando hopes some of you can join me at Blue Jacket Park every weekend on Sunday from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. I plan to make this a weekly event, weather permitting. Bring out your hoops if you already own one or I’ll be providing you with extra hula hoops for you to practice and experiment with. Blue Jacket is a beautiful park that doesn't necessarily have to be about hula hooping. Make it a picnic, bring out your family and enjoy the big field, excercise, training, or whatever. It’s an opportunity to get outside and have some fun doing something you probably haven’t considered doing in years. They’ll be music and bottled water if you get thirsty. Also to those curious, with the whole circular nature of hooping, I’m also extending these “hoop jams” to a bit more than just hooping, if you’re interested. I’d be pleased to demonstrate some very, very basic moves for Taekwondo or Capoeira. I would just show samples of things you’d expect out of these arts, but I have two very good instructors I’d recommend if you think it’s fun or interesting. Hope to see some of you out!

Hey, I live in Miami, which is supposed to be a cultural and happening city, but it's really not because I cannot find any hoopers here. I just started hooping in mid-to-late April (3 weeks ago?). I dabbled in a bit of yoga, but I picked up hooping when I bought a hoop for my 3 year old sister at the dollar store and decided I wanted to give it a shot. I found some helpful tutorials on youtube and then became a semidedicated hooper these past weeks.

So any hooping classes or individual Miami hoopers want to get together? Give me a reply, I'll try to check this thing if possible.

Hello everyone,

Some of you know that I love hula hooping. However, there really aren’t enough hooping events in Orlando. I applaud Lacy for her efforts in the CHI (Community Hooping Inititiative) Orlando group. She holds weekly meetings every Thursday from 6-8 pm. Please visit (http://groups.google.com/group/chi-orlando) for more information and support hooping in Orlando.

I personally got into hooping when the founder of The Hoop Loop introduced me to the old childhood toy everyone has played with at least once in there life. Today’s hoops and hoop scene aren’t like what most of us remember. They really aren’t just a child’s toy anymore. Today’s hula hoops are much heavier and have more of a textured feel to them. Because of this, they provide a lot more room for exercise, tricks, and even dance. Most importantly, it’s a lot of fun.

Orlando CHI: March 10th

For the first Orlando CHI (Community Hooping Initiative), we will visit the full moon drum circles on the same block as Dandelion for some musical hooping.

Meet at Misty Forest Enrichment Center at 6pm, as will be usual, but we are walking down to one or both of the drum circles happening that evening. I intend to stay past the usual 8pm cut-off time if things are fun. : )

This week, CHI will represent a ~Nature Mood~. CHI is also moving to WEDNESDAYS instead of Tuesdays, so please note that we meet on Wednesday, March 25th this week, not on Tuesday.

Orlando CHI: March 17th

Last night's CHI was so much fun. Many children & adults enjoyed some parking lot hooping, and then CHI visited the Thornton Ave. drum circles for some awesome drumbeat hooping. The circle was alive with hoops! Kids & adults hooped everywhere.

Next week, it is Saint Patrick's Day and my birthday. We meet in the parking lot behind Misty Forest (between The Evolve Store & Dandelion on Thornton Ave.) - look for the giant silver streamline trailer that lives back there currently.

Instead of just wearing green for my birthday, let's drink some "green" drinks from the local environmentally-friendly establishments and hula hoop until we are greenish.

I bought an LED Hoop from superhooper.org a little while ago. Here are the specs:

I've used it less than a dozen times. It still has battery life. I bought it for $118 (shipping&handling included). I'll sell it for $75 (s&h included).

If you're wondering why I'm selling it; it's not the hoop-- it's me! I'm sure we've all heard this before ; p But, really, I'm a college student who spent her birthday money on a toy I never get to practice with. Therefore, when I do get the chance to play, I get frustrated trying to readjust to this hoop.

Moving BACK to Florida

Hey there!

I'm moving back to the Sunshine State at the end of the month and was just wondering if anyone teaches classes, or has regular hoop groups where I could learn a few things. I'm pretty much self taught, just bought a hoop one day and started playing, but want to hone my skills a bit and perhaps start performing? Anyone hosting/know of anything that goes on in or near Orlando? I'm actually moving to Clermont if you know where that is, so I'm close to the Disney crowd as well. Let me know!

About the Hoop Path

The HoopPath is a hoop dance curriculum founded and taught by master
hooper and hoop teacher Jonathan Baxter. Baxter’s teaching stands out
in this new, dynamic fitness practice as a unique blend of rigorous
technique and deep introspection. Through years of daily, solo,
blindfolded Practice, Baxter discovered innumerable technical nuances
in the art of hoop dance, as well as descriptive names and vivid
metaphors that make his insights readily available to even the
beginning hoop student. Through these same years of Practice he also
discovered the extraordinary power of the Hoop to heal not only the
weakened Body or the overworked Mind, but also the depressed,
darkened, and depleted Spirit.

Bax was no stranger to depression when he first picked up the Hoop,
intending only to use it to stretch out some temporarily paralyzed
shoulder muscles. As the motion of the Hoop helped his body become
more supple and strong again, he noticed the presence of depression
steadily receding from his daily life. Whereas before, depression
might strike at any moment and linger for weeks or months, with the
Hoop he noticed that depression struck less often, felt less
oppressive, and didn’t last as long. This discovery amazed him and
filled him with Hope — maybe there was a way to not only keep the
cloud of depression from obscuring his own life, but also to open a
window to that incredible opportunity for others: to live a life NOT
overshadowed by depression, to live again fully in the Light.

Baxter’s longtime student and partner, Ann Humphreys, demonstrates and
assists in HoopPath Workshops. Ann attended her first HoopPath class
in the summer of ‘05 and became a committed hooper a year later. An

Calling all Tampa Bay Hoopers - Wed, Nov 19 - HOOPING in the Park

Wednesday night at 6:30 a few of us "newbies" are getting together at the riverwalk park behind the lighting palace (next to the marriott) in downtown tampa. So far there are four hoopers but would love to see more, poi, dance anything!!! The City would probably frown on fire in the park but I'm definately bringing my LED hoop. The park is right on the water and I've been checking it out for bums and safety issues and I think it's ideal for an occasional night hoop jam! ANYONE that is interested in joining please show up or shoot me a line if you need directions! Afterwards maybe check out one of the bars for a bite to eat ~ & drink!

Hello Friends! Tune into Good Day Tampa Bay (Fox 13) this Wed. to see the Monsters host a special hoop dance class/ workshop with Charlie Belcher. Anyone who has seen his segments knows that this guy is a ton of fun. They don't think we'll be able to teach him how to hoop. We're up for any challenge, and we're determined to turn him into a hooper by the end of the show. Fox 13 will be broadcasting live from the dance studio from 7 - 9 a.m. this Wed. so check it out :)

Want to Meet HoopGirl???

Hello FL Hooper Friends!

I have some exciting news! As you may know, Christabel (a.k.a. HoopGirl) will be here this weekend for teacher training. At the end of the three-day event, we plan to celebrate with a big hoop jam at the Treasure Island Drum Circle. Come out on Sunday (6/22 - weather permitting) to meet and hoop with Christabel!!! We understand that not everyone who may have wanted to attend teacher training was able to do so. I think it's super cool that she's coming out to our drum circle to hang with locals :) Let's hoop it up this Sunday and show her that the scene is alive and well in FL!

Speaking of the teacher training, Jodie, Jessica and myself from Hoola Monsters will all be attending/ participating. So, after we receive our HoopGirl teacher certifications, we will begin to teach the HoopGirl workout in St. Pete, Clearwater and Tampa. Stay tuned for class schedules. In the meantime, we hope to see your beautiful faces on the beach this Sunday!

Exciting News for Florida Hoopers!

HoopGirl is coming to the Sunshine State!

For the first time ever, Christabel will be hosting a HoopGirl teacher training workshop on the East Coast. The 3-day event will take place June 20-22 in St. Petersburg, FL at the Roberts Recreation Center (located at 1246 50th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL 33703). For those unfamiliar, St. Pete is located just outside of Tampa on Florida's west coast.

I wanted to give you all a heads up, as we're planning to make this teacher training event one of the biggest and best yet! I will be posting this information on the main hula hooping tribe early next week. The registration link should be live in the next few days, so check out hoopgirl.com for more information and for registration details. As you may have noticed, our FL Funkshine moderator (Alexis) is not very active in the online community anymore. I see her often, and while she's still a phenomenal hooper (and a constant inspiration), her Tribe presence is pretty much non-existant these days.

Therefore, I've decided to start a new Florida-based hooping tribe under the name Hoola Monsters. This is an extension of Hoola Monsters, Inc. Any hooping events going on in the Orlando area? A friend of mine just got her first hoop and we want to join in on a group hoop soon so she can learn from other people.. I know Dandelion has hoopers at their moon drum circles and Lacy and Brooke had something going on with the Campus Hooping Initiative.. but I haven't kept up and have no idea what's coming up next.

Tues. Night Hoop Group

Hello!

I just wanted to let you guys know that I host weekly Tues. evening hoop gatherings at my house in St. Pete. My girl friends come over & we typically put on music and hoop in my back yard. I've got extra hoops availalbe, if anyone needs to borrow one. The more, the merrier! If you're interested in joining us, just send me a message & I'll give you directions to my house.

I've been going to the Treasure Islando drum circle on Sunday nights. And I also met a hooper who works at the Rare Olive in DT St. Pete. During the week, this bar is hoop friendly. They re-arrange the lounge area to make room for hooping. I think we should all get together there sometime as well. Maybe Thursday nights? Just let me know if you guys are interested in any of these get togethers :) I hope to see you soon!

Just a short intro...

I'm not a hooper - but def interested in hooping.
I am actually a bellydancer that is opening a new studio in Dunedi,n FL
Alternative dance and exercise is what is offered - and I think hooping would be a wonderful thing to have/add.
Plan on studio being not just a teaching studio - but a performing studio.

Any hooping instructors in the Tampa Bay Area interested in teaching a couple of classes a week?

Hi Guys!

I hope you all had a very happy holiday season with family and friends! I just wanted you to know that I'm re-instating the Tuesday hoop groups at my house, now that the holidays are over. We had to take a couple weeks off from our regular get togethers due to Christmas and New Year's.

I had the chance to meet up with a bunch of you lovelys for some DT St. Pete hooping last week (including our Funkshine moderator, Alexis ;). There are so many beautiful hoopers in our area, and I feel blessed to have finally connected with many of you in person. We had so much fun tearing up downtown together, and I can't wait to do it again!

Not only are Tuesdays back in session, but we've got a couple girls who will be bringing their fire hoops to my house also. AND - I got a brand new PSI hoop for Christmas :) So, if you haven't made it over for a Tues night yet, you're missing out! Come play with us! Just send me a message and I'll shoot you my address. We usually get together from about 7 to 9:30 -10. And if you've got certain music that you would like to hear, please bring your CDs. If anyone has an iPod speaker hook up, that would be awesome too! I hope to see you soon!

I saw hoopdance and I think it is gorgeous. I want to learn so bad!
I can do basic hip hulahooping with a kids hoop.
I'll be moving to Fort Myers in August, so I was wondering if anyone is hooping there?

I am going to host a hoop-build session noon-4PM Wed (and Thurs, too, if supplies last) where newbies and old pros alike can make and decorate a hoop to take home with them. =o)

male hooper needed for a film shoot...

Hello Florida hoopers,
I'm looking for a male hooper to join me on a film shoot in Palm Beach, Florida on June 10th. I will be flying in to this area to do a 3 minute shoot to promote BodyHoops and the hoopla in general.
