Skype is free software that runs on window, macs, and linux. The software is free. Chatting is free. And calling from computer to computer anywhere in the world free.
Only if you wish to make calls from your computer to a phone do you need to pay for that service. And you pre-pay for that service. There aren't any surprising charges.
You can just install it before the next meeting. It should be easy to install, but if you have any trouble feel free to message me. -

Mon, April 14, 2008 - 8:23 AMSo how did the meeting go...
did you guys decide to look at some islands that might be a bit more convenient......yet still fairly remote..?
I've been to the ecovillage in San Mateo, and another farm in Pennsylvania............they are cool, but not what I'm looking for....... -

It was a pretty good meeting. Trae wasn't there which is too bad. We need to get his input on this.
There is another island that is much less remote. But, it lowers most of the hurdles preventing the project becoming reality in the near future. Also, by trading some remoteness, and privacy, we do get to interact with the local a lot more, and that should be good for the project.
I think there are a lot of pros and cons, but I'd describe them as pretty much balancing out. Plus, we can buy this island outright with only 20 people, so Floatingman could potentially become reality very soon. All of this, of course, depends on seeing the island first hand.

We also talked about how to get momentum rolling on the project again. Our big conclusions were to set a solid target again, plus it won't hurt to get us listed in Jack Rabbit Speaks (in the newsletter they now give instructions for how to get listed).
Here are our big next 3 todos:
1) Get Trae's okay
2) Have some visit this new property and take a look at it first hand. That might be me, Vinay, or someone else.
3) Get listed in Jack Rabbit Speaks
