I think this is an excellent idea. I've spent a lot of time in Nicaragua and have been planning to move there in about five years. The people are wonderful and the cost of living is low. However, since poverty is so prevalent, security for the island should be a consideration.

Sun, February 3, 2008 - 7:31 AMwelcome to fm, brook !
i cant speak directly to security, but common sense
tells me that therell be a "moat"... ;-) there might
be information on the website, or in other threads
(altho the titles might not give it away as such) about
the security concerns folks have had - it HAS come up.
read thru some of the old threads - check out the site -
and maybe post a descriptively-titled topic and we can
discuss it. :)
anyways - welcome ! h.

Mon, February 4, 2008 - 8:47 AMHey Brook,
Welcome to the tribe. How did you hear about Floatingman?
I've sent you the official greeting message. Let us know if you have any further questions.
Harold is right. The 'moat' will give us a certain degree of security. But it would be a good idea to lock down, or lock away, anything expensive.
In somewhat good news, I've heard of minor robberies down here. I haven't yet heard of anyone getting hurt.
