Classes cancelled tonight - Wednesday, October 7th

Lacey is still sick and needs to cancel classes again for tonight, Wednesday the 7th. She really hates having to cancel, but doesn't want anyone else to come down with this nasty bug. Classes should resume on Thursday, but rehearsals for Gala will definitely take place this Saturday as scheduled!

Onça has undertaken intense study of Narrative bellydance and is on a serious mission to nurture authentic self-expression among the world's Tribal Fusionistas. This class is GREAT for getting dancers laughing, building community, and making memories.

Raks Vaudevillia: Foxy or Folkloric?
It's all how you handle the big stick. Cane, or 'Raks Assaya', is a traditional woman's dance art that offers tremendous creative expression to Fusion, Burlesque, and Vaudeville artists. Building on the bellydance vocabulary, we drill sustainable cane technique and explore combos with attitude. Great for developing both troupe precision and the theatrical face of fusion.

When?: September 12th (Saturday) – 9:00am to 12:00pm

Where?: My yard – 119 N Alderwood St, Winter Springs, FL 32708

What?: Unused or gently used Belly Dance Items in a variety of sizes and styles (Harem pants, hip scarves, skirts, tops, bra & belt sets and more!!) Additional items will also be for sale – Bunk beds, dressers, washer/dryer, home items, clothing (womens and girls sizes) and much more.

Please note, all items are the responsibility of the seller (if you leave it with me, I’m keeping the $$ - - muahahaha). Table space is limited – please bring folding tables, clothing racks or anything else that will help you display your items.

I will open up my home for you to try on before you buy. Lemonade refreshments will be brought to you by the two prettiest girls in Central Florida…(of course, that’s just my opinion :-) Please feel free to bring a drum, zills or music and we can dance to pass the time (or just cause a big ruckus to draw in more buyers...tehe!)

Getting ready for a performance can be daunting, whether its for a casual hafla or Gala showcase. You've picked a song you really love, have practiced your choreography, but what to wear? Picking the perfect costume to fit your music stylings, and creating a unique, tribal look for hair and makeup can be difficult. To demystify these beauty dilemmas, we're hosting a special workshop to put together the complete tribal look without breaking the bank!

Reserve your spot for Saturday, June 27 from 1-4PM at the YOU Health Center. Bring your questions, costuming samples and more to this special joint workshop. Learn Lacey's tips of hair ornamentation, secrets of bra and belt construction, and where she finds those intricate bits and baubles at minimal cost.

Diminish your fear and loathing of makeup with Laura's tribal beauty basics made easy, using readily-available products found in any drugstore! You'll learn the process of creating those intense tribal eye looks and special beauty secrets, so come with a clean face. Prenatal Workshop: Celebrating the Divine Feminine

Register today for this intimate workshop specially designed for mothers-to-be, and women who have recently given birth.
Tribal bellydance celebrates the beauty of a womanly body, and encourages community and support amongst women.

Students will learn movements that will assist in loosening the hips as well as movements to help take stress off the back and the body, commonly occuring during pregnancy. Techniques to tone and tighten muscles will also be explored.
A minimum of five participants must register by Friday, April 17, to hold workshop. No previous bellydance experience required to attend!

Want to meet up to explore videography for your next Dance Production, Festival or larger Hafla?

Hi all !

For those who don't know me, I'm a life journalist, or more relevantly here, an event videographer with background and focus on bellydance performance (my wife used to bellydance and many of my close friends helped me understand the art of dancing with spirit). This past year I've recorded over 1000 dancers (probably over 2000) between Rakkasah and Tribal Fest alone... I love what I do, am thankful for the art, and always honored to be able to share the retelling of performances with and for all the amazing people I meet along the way (you!).... (I realize that might sound "fluffy" to y'all... but I mean it... really!)

I like to think "outside the box" and whenever possible give the best possible quality within budget constraints (audio quality so you can hear the music zills and shimmies, as well as visual production value).

I'm writing because I'll be in South Florida and Orlando between April 7 and 12th, and if anyone on this Tribe would be interested in meeting up to discuss videography for a festival, stage performance or larger-scale Hafla you might have planned (or any other DVD or videography interests), I'd love to find the time to connect.

If anyone is interested, please do PM me... or if you have general questions others might be interested in, please do share them here as well.

Garrian has a show on Saturday at Ethos Vegan Kitchen in the afternoon. There are a few other bands playing with him, including and INCREDIBLE beat-boxer called Rubox. The festivities go from 2-6. The show is free and the food is amazing. We'd love to see youall out before we go back to Seattle.

Hello all! We just bought our tickets for a trip to Orlando in March. We'll be there the 16th through the 30th. I can't wait to see everybody again in class! I am coordinating an All-night Alchemical fire circle and would love you all to be a part of it!

Hello to all! OK, I've been meaning to do this and finally got around to it. I have collected a large number of shoe styles that I only have one or two pair left. It's time to move them!

Every size is represented and nearly every color too! Of course the color you want may not be available in your size, but if you are flexible there are more than 30 styles available.

The clearance price is only $16.99, BUT if you show a FTD ticket, you will get all clearance shoes for only $15.00.

I also have some of the last of the ethnic clothing we used to sell. I have some cool vintage things along with new party wear items. All super cheap! When looking at the clothing, think of cutting them apart for the fabric or the work to use in costumes.

Keep in mind, most regular priced merchandise is 15% off when you show your FTD ticket.

This weekend Firestorm is performing at the Creeks art and Music festival in veterans park. It starts at 7am and goes til 10pm. Admission is 5 dollars. We do this twice a year and everytime is for a different charity. This time is for battered women and children and we are doing a toys for tots benefit as well. I am dilegently working on images from the gala.....at the same time I am also finishing up images from Beledi beach Bash, The Big Bellydance Photo Shoot, Keely and June's Wedding, another wedding, and the holiday portrait shoot from last weekend! Yikes! I guess getting laid off of work at this point was a good thing so I can get caught up!

The workshop schedule and registration are up for Cues & Tattoos, a group-improv based festival in Seattle in April. Teachers include Carolina Nericcio, Frederique, Unmata, Megha of Devyani, Read My Hips, Troupe Hipnotica and inFusion tribal. I am saving my pennies to be able to go to the biggest tribal event in my new hometown! If anyone wants to make the trek aaaaaalllll the way over to the other side of the earth to go with me ... well let's just say I'd be very excited. Tribal Con room update!!!

Hey!!! I checked in on the Awalim tribe and it turns out the reservation people were just all totally screwed up when I called to reserve my rooms. There are still rooms available in the $109 block. I got my rooms switched over to the con rate without drama. So if you haven't gotten your rooms yet you're still good to go, and if you got your rooms and were told the block was full then call back and get the block rate.

Photography Questions..............Answered

I have had several emails asking me why flash photography is not allowed at the shows so I felt the need to respond here so you can all see =) This has nothing to do with any one person, I just felt you should all read and understand.

This has nothing to do with anyone personally, this is how professional photography works. I know how to manipulate my camera and take pictures without a flash. If everyone could do what I do I would not have a job or a purpose. We just ask that you be respectful and understand that there are reasons behind what we do. Like I said, this is not a personal attack by any means, I just had a few emails come my way after Saturday's show and I wanted to explain.

First and foremost, no offense is meant by announcing "no flash photography" at the show, there are real reasons behind it and I will explain (I probably should have done this a long time ago).

1. Flash lighting is distracting and sometimes dangerous to performers and all those on stage
2. Flash lighting disrupts the video that is being recorded. Do you want your video to have a bunch of flashes going off in it?
3. I, your photographer, do not use a flash for the reasons #1 & 2, therefore, if you use a flash it will disrupt the settings on my camera (especially if you are right next to me or right behind me) I have a professional camera and it will have a hard time focusing and reading because it will try to read off of yours, it is smart =)
4. Most shows you will go to (especially professional ones) do not allow video or photography AT ALL. We are not saying that you can't, just do it without a flash, it is a priviledge. I am sorry if you can not adjust your camera accordingly, that is why I am there. If I have time between performances or something, ask me and I can help you try to set your camera.
5. I, your professional photographer, am compensated to be there for quality images, if I can not achieve that because i am obstructed, then I am not doing my job.
6. We asked politely.

What do I expect from you as a professional??? I expect you as a dancer, performer, family member, audience member, what have you...to respect me and whoever is doing the video. We are paid to be there! At one point during the show on Saturday I had about 4 people sitting or standing directly above me, behind me, or literally right next to me taking pictures...literally right over my shoulder, I could hear the snapping. I tend to move around a bit while I am taking pictures so I can get different angles and lengths, I can not do my job if I have 4 or 5 people in my way. Not only that, but once again I am paid to be there and it is very disrespectful. Would you step directly behind the photographer at a wedding and shoot over his/her shoulder? Probably not, so please please please be respectful. I asked very politely for several people to step back and give me some room and a couple of those people sent me emails saying that I was very rude. I was not trying to be rude, I was trying to do my job and when I ask politely once and then it happens again and again I tend to get a little frustrated as anyone would. I hope you all understand this and will still like to have me as your photographer. I want to get the best shots of you possible but I need everyone's cooperation in that. I feel very much a part of FTD and want to stay that way. You are all friends and I mean no disrespect of any kind. I apologize if I offended or upset anyone or any of your family members. That was not my intention. Thanks and hope to see you all again soon!

We Did It!!!

So as I sit here in my PJs making a firm stand against regular clothes today, I find myself reflecting on the amazing night we all had. A Tribal Garden was all I knew it would be and more. All the dancers were absolutly AMAZING all your hard work of love paid off! The numbers were really wonderful and you all dance together beautifully. I know there were lots of nerves, myself included( I couldn't keep my basket on in the opening number hehe), but I hope you all had as much fun as I did! I am so proud of all of you!!!
I forgot alot of thank yous last night so I want to mention a few here!
Thank you to all of our guest performers: Lisa, Anna, Karen, and Loud Zoo your performances were really wonderful and brought such a dynamic to the show thank you!
Pam and Denise you ladies were fantastic that you for your help, I don't think we could have run such a smooth show without you!
Keely you were wonderful, nerves and all!!
All the boys at the door I really appreciated all your help, the men in our lives often get suckered into helping but you all did it with a smile! Fred thank you for being there with us even though voting ran you alittle late, your support is always felt.
Aivin, Danny, Jody and Asad thank you so much for your support as our wonderful sponsers and so much more. You really care about what FTD is about and care about our future!
Leslie, Judy, Paul and actually your whole family!! The flowers were AMAZING I mean how did I ever think I could call my show A Tribal Garden and not have fresh flowers!!?? And I can't wait to see the video!
Laura, thank you for helping get it all together and for your often overlooked support I don't know how I'd ever get through these shows without you!!

Turquoise Mediterranean Grill is a feast for the palate and a delight to the senses! Enjoy the intricate taste of authentic and traditional Turkish cuisine in Plant City. Turquoise is proud to offer breakfast, lunch and dinner from 6:30am to 9:00pm.

Turquoise has professional belly dancers performing authentic Turkish style belly dance every Saturday night. The first of the three Saturday night shows begins at 7pm. The dancers put on a beautiful, high energy, family friendly show that showcases technique, authenticity and showmanship.

The Turquoise house dancers are Troupe Bal Hepsi's Azeeria, Misha and Carina. We will also occasionally feature guest dancers to showcase Turkish Oriental belly dance.

Directions from Tampa:

*I-4 West to Exit 22, Park Road.
You will pass the giant sign for Days Inn rising high above the interstate as you are on I-4 (between exits 21 & 22). That is your actual destination.

*When you exit on Park Road (exit 22) turn RIGHT onto Park Road, go 400 feet
and then make a RIGHT onto South Frontage Road.
(You are doubling back)

*Follow South Frontage Road one mile and they are located on the left.
Remember, the restaurant is *INSIDE* the Days Inn (where a Denny's used to be).
Go inside the hotel lobby and the door to the restaurant is on the left.

Hey all! Who is planning to go to Tribal*Con in February??

Just a quick head's up - I called the host hotel today and the Tribal Con room block is full!!!!! So if you ARE going to go you may want to call and reserve a room NOW before the whole hotel is full!!! Aiiiii!!! The block price is $109 and the regular price for that weekend is around $135, so that's not really bad at all.

Anyway, I know I'm going! Who else is??

GALA Practice on Sunday

GALA PRACTICE AT THE YOU - Sunday, 12-1 p.m. - All routines

Yes, that's right, Sunday 12-1, if you are not headed to the beach for photo ops (wish I could go!) or raq'ing out in some other respect and want an hour to run some routines, come to the YOU on Sunday. The rental is $30. The cost can be split many ways.

Rehersals/Classes next week

Just wanted to remind everyone of our schedule for next week. There
are NO technique classes next week. Rehersals are as follows:

Monday:

All Tribal Style classes 7-8pm
Tribal Fusion Advanced 8:10-9:10

Tuesday:
Tribal Fusion Beginning 7:45-8:45
Tribal Fusion Intermediate 9-10pm

Thursday: Rehersal is at our Gala location 1121 N. Mills

7-9pm we will be running all of our numbers in the order of the show
Please wear at least the bottom half of your costume!

If you have not had all your cotuming pieces including hair and make-
up please take care of that in reheresals next week BEFORE thursday.
Laura our make-up guru will be on hand Monday and possibly tuesday to
help with any make-up questions you may have and if you need any hair
help I am more than happy to loan out my items. Please if you are
missing anything don't wait until thursday to tell me!!

I am getting really excited the numbers are looking GREAT! I know some
of you are getting together to practice this weekend have fun and I'll
see you all Monday!!

I'll be happy to host (children are welcome, although banned from sewing areas). Cat's Birthday Plans change alittle so more can play!!

Hello Friends!

October 10th, is still on for Soong Thai for 6pm dinner. But friends have asked to move Halloween Horror Nights to Sat so more could come. So meeting at 5:30p Sat at Universal for a night of and entertainment. Park event is from 6p-2a.
