Health Canada Suggests Lowering Fluoridation Levels to Protect Children's Teeth

August 18, 2008
by: Sally Stride
http://www.naturalnews.com/023896.html

(NaturalNews) Canadian children are ingesting too much cavity-fighting fluoride and it can ruin their teeth. U.S. children ingest even more fluoride but no such sound advice is evident from U.S. officials. To avoid fluoride-induced yellow and tan discolored teeth (moderate dental fluorosis), fluoride chemicals injected into Canadian water supplies should be lowered, says an expert panel, including two Americans, convened by Health Canada. Less fluoride in children’s toothpaste and infant formula is also recommended.

Because scientific evidence shows that even low amounts of ingested fluoride poses dental and health risks, many environmental groups, eleven U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Unions and over 1,780 professionals urge that fluoridation be stopped worldwide ((http://www.fluoridealert.org/profession...) .

"The best way to lower children’s fluoride intake, as Health Canada suggests, is to stop fluoridation," says Paul Connett, PhD, Executive Director, Fluoride Action Network (FAN). "It makes no sense to prescribe fluoride drugs to children via the water supply at levels which are between 150 and 250 times higher than the level in mothers’ milk,” says Connett.

Despite breast milk’s extremely low fluoride content, it’s both protective against dental fluorosis and tooth decay, studies show.

Canadian water fluoride levels, now between 0.8 and 1.0 milligrams of fluoride per liter of water (mg/L), should be lowered to 0.7 mg/L, says Health Canada’s fluoride panel. The level of fluoride in Toronto, Canada’s water was reduced from 1.2 to 0.8 mg/L in 1999 and to 0.6 mg/L in 2005. In 2000, moderate dental fluorosis was reported in 14% of 7-year-olds and 12% of 13-year-olds.

Toronto-based Citizens for a Safe Environment (CSE) wants fluoridation stopped entirely in Toronto and will co-host two public fluoride meetings with FAN in downtown Toronto on Monday, August 11.

“These meetings will give the public information they don’t get from our government or dental organizations,” says CSE director Karen Buck. “In the afternoon, a panel will address the question of whether Toronto should stop fluoridating its water. In the evening, experts will explain fluoride’s dangers to health.”

After receiving an invitation to attend, the Ontario Dental Association (ODA) sent out a news release urging legislators and communities to stand up in support of fluoridation; but the ODA will not do so, themselves.

"The best way that the ODA can get communities and politicians to stand up for water fluoridation is to provide, in person, a cogent and scientifically-referenced defense of fluoridation at the afternoon forum," says Buck. For more info on the conferences: (http://fluoridealert.org/august.11.html) .

Dentists who promote fluoridation often dismiss mild dental fluorosis (white spots) as “not a problem.” However, Dincer reports in the New York State Dental Journal that even white-spotted teeth can damage children’s self-esteem. Cosmetic dentists happily cover up any dental fluorosis, mild, moderate or severe, often for very high out-of-pocket fees.

American children consume much more fluoride than Canadian children evidence shows. The six-member Health Canada panel included American dentist, Jayanth Kumar of the New York State Department of Health which still recommends water fluoride levels between 0.7 to 1.2 mg/L. Unlike American authorities, Health Canada does not recommend fluoride drops or tablets for children under age three who live in non-fluoridated communities.

The U.S. EPA also allows high amounts of (sulfuryl) fluoride pesticide residues to remain on foods which is not so in Canada, according to Health Canada.

In the U.S., up to 48% of children have fluorosis, with 4% moderate/severe, according to the CDC.
While dental Fluorosis is an obvious sign of fluoride toxicity, unseen is fluoride’s toxic bodily effects.

A March 2006 National Research Council (NRC) fluoride report reveals science showing how fluoride jeopardizes health -- even at low levels deliberately added to public water supplies. Fluoride poses risks to the thyroid gland, bones, diabetics, kidney patients, high water drinkers, infants, and others and can severely damage children's teeth. At least three panel members advise avoiding fluoridated water and Panel Chairman, toxicologist John Doull, is worried about the thyroid effects.

Because of the NRC report, the National Kidney Foundation withdrew its fluoridation support and both the ADA and CDC advise that infant formula should not be mixed with fluoridated water. The NRC found plausible studies linking fluoride to lowered IQ.

The Health Canada fluoride panel claims that “the weight of evidence does not support a link between fluoride and intelligence quotient deficit.”

However, “It is hard to believe that any "weight of evidence" analysis could possibly dismiss fluoride's neurological impacts. There have now been over 40 animal studies which show that fluoride can damage the brain, and no less than 18 studies which show that fluoride lowers IQ in children, and only 2 that don't,” says Connett.

The latest issue of the journal Fluoride published 12 newly-translated Chinese studies, which report fluoride’s effects on the brain, including the lowering of IQ in children. These and other brain studies will be reviewed at both conferences.

Dr. Vyvyan Howard, an infant and fetal pathologist, and president of the International Society of Doctors for the Environment, will be presenting a major review of studies on fluoride’s brain effects, including the translated Chinese studies.

Aloha Aspartame? Unfortunately, Not Yet

March 11, 2008
by: Jennifer McKinley
http://www.naturalnews.com/022813.html

(NaturalNews) Walking down the isles of your local supermarket, it is difficult to pick up any one item that does not contain aspartame. Without actually reading the ingredient list, consumers are led to believe that labels touting, "No Sugar Added", "Low Sugar", or "Sugar-Free" are actually healthy no sugar alternatives, when in truth; most items that carry such labels contain chemical sweeteners such as aspartame or sucralose that are far from "healthy".

Consumption of aspartame can be linked to arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, insomnia, headaches/migraines, dizziness, and loss of vision just to name a few.

Now, one state has joined in the fight to have one of these chemicals removed from the food supply. Hawaii is making strides toward legislation that would ban aspartame from the food on Hawaiian store shelves. They are the second state to craft legislation geared toward aspartame removal.

In 2006, New Mexico attempted legislation that would have effectively put a halt to what some have labeled, "Rumsfeld's Disease", named appropriately after aspartame's chief champion in the 1970's, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. The lobbyists and corporations went to testify and according to Stephen Fox, who petitioned to push the bill into legislation, Richard Minzner, former Majority Leader in the House, told the Committee that it was, "irresponsible and illegal to even think about challenging an FDA approved chemical." Stephen reported that not one committee member objected to this statement. They simply sat listening as they ate their ham sandwiches and downed cans of diet soda.

Hawaii took up the gauntlet in late January to try their hand at a ban on the toxic substance. Today, that bill was killed in Committee for the entire 2008 session.

It was decided that instead of bringing this Hawaii House bill to a vote, which is what Representative Josh Green, M.D., told his constituents that he would do last week, he has "deferred at the discretion of the Chair". According to Stephen Fox, there is still a bill to be considered by the Senate, but with over 3000 other bills in consideration, the Senate bill to ban aspartame has, "yet to be scheduled for its hearing."

Awareness regarding the dangers of aspartame seems to be increasing even though the FDA, corporations, and some doctors insist on its safety.

Dr. Kalani Brady, a physician at John A. Burns School of Medicine says, "Aspartame has been studied hundreds of times. Nothing has ever been shown to be a detriment with aspartame. It's perfectly safe."

Dr. Brady insists that a ban on aspartame would have an adverse affect on life as we know it. "Oh, we would shut things down, you know. It's very difficult to look into all the products that aspartame is contained in. More than just an inconvenience, it would shut down the economy."

On February 12, 2008, ABC aired a piece with Diane Sawyer regarding new research from Purdue University in the field of aspartame dangers.

Dr. Marie Savard tells us that as little as one diet soda a day can change your metabolism and actually cause you to gain weight. She also reported that consumption of artificial sweeteners can change brain chemistry.

The artificial sweetener industry issued a response in regard to the new research information. The Calorie Control Council rebutted the study saying, "Previous studies in humans have shown that low calorie sweeteners are indeed beneficial for weight control."

Dr. Savard tells us in this interview that there have been "small studies" showing benefits, but two recent large studies involving 18,000 participants that were followed for five to nine years found "healthy adult people consuming as little as one diet drink a day could increase the risk of Metabolic Syndrome, pre-heart disease, and weight gain by 30-40%."

Researchers are not certain if the brain will "reset" once the artificial sweeteners such as aspartame are stopped or at least lessened to less than one a day. They admit that more research is needed.

You can see this interview here: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5tpCpqABhM) .

Aspartame is the one substance that receives the most complaints to the FDA and yet it remains on the market. The FDA stopped tabulating complaints on aspartame in 1992 after the tally had reached over 10,000 complaints. According to Dr. Janet Hull, one of the top researchers on the dangers of aspartame, the FDA began to categorize the complaints regarding aspartame into generic categories not related to aspartame, "such as death", for example. "If the death by seizure was reported as a reaction to aspartame, the death was recorded as seizure only and not as an 'aspartame' seizure." says Dr. Hull. Before 1992, when complaints were accepted as directly related to aspartame consumption, between 78% and 85% of all FDA complaints were about aspartame.

What Contains Aspartame?

There are approximately 6000 products on the market that contain aspartame. Some of them include:

* diet sodas

* hot chocolate mix

* lemonade mix

* children's vitamins

* puddings

* yogurt

* chewing gum

* flavored water

* frozen desserts

* gelatins

* "sugar free" items

* "no sugar added" items

* "___% less sugar" items

The FDA seems unwilling, despite ever mounting evidence that this toxic substance is affecting people daily, to reconsider their position regarding its approval. Our own state law makers seem unable or unwilling to protect us further by shelving bills, legislation, and petitions that could potentially save lives by outlawing aspartame. Even some doctors seem more concerned that a ban on aspartame might actually affect the economy adversely, although it seems to be perfectly capable of crashing without the help of a ban on aspartame, than sound science and saving human lives. We can only protect ourselves. For the sake of your and your family's health, check the labels on every item that you put into your grocery cart from vitamins to water to chewing gum.

The last thing you want, is to end up as another ignored complaint on the FDA's website, another ignored name on a petition to law makers, a misdiagnosed complaint in your doctor's office, or another name added to the "unfortunate reaction" list of deaths to this toxic substance.

Dr. Hardy Limeback Comes to Alaska to Help Oppose Fluoridation

March 20, 2008
by: Dr Emily A Kane
http://www.naturalnews.com/022863.html

(NaturalNews) On October 2 the citizens of Juneau, Alaska voted to keep sodium fluoride OUT of our pure, glacial-melt water. It was a landslide victory (4800 to 1900). Yay! Sodium fluoride is not as bad as hydrofluorosilicate, but it's still a waste product from the phosphate fertilizer industry. www.fluoridealert.org

Breaking news today at www.juneauempire.com Here's the story: Juneau has been fluoridating city water since 1984. Three years ago, a group of concerned citizens approached our mayor, who put together a commission of doctors, engineers and public health officials. I was one of these commissioners. We studied the available literature in depth for 2 years, meeting at least once monthly. We developed a comprehensive report for the city assembly, which included an analysis of the recently published 506 page review on the toxicology of fluoride by the prestigious National Academy of Science. www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=11571

After reviewing our report, the assembly members of Juneau, Alaska voted among themselves 7 to 1 to stop fluoridating Juneau, acknowledging that the risks far outweigh the benefits. The fluoride was turned off on January 15 of this year. In February, a group of doctors and dentists mounted a campaign to get the fluoride put back in. They have raised $161,000 for their campaign; nearly $150,000 of which has come from the American Dental Association in Chicago Illinois. http://tinyurl.com/36d66s

Wow! $150,000. Think how many toothbrushes the ADA could have sent to Juneau for that sum! This impressive amount might also have paid for topical fluoride varnishes for all local elementary school kids for 5 years. Why have the pro-fluoride folks spent so much money to defend their increasingly indefensible stance? A few years ago the ADA spent $300,000 in Bellingham, Washington to promote fluoridation. That didn't work either. Why aren't they putting that money into actual dental care for those who need it most? Instead, the funds have been used to buy signatures to mount a ballot initiative, to hire a PR firm to conduct two "push polls" (which are not about gathering information but are attempts to influence voters), and to inundate the media with slickly produced ads which contain outright lies, such as "Fluoride benefits everyone" and "fluoridated water reduces dental cavities by 20-40%."

Juneau Citizens for Clean Water can't compete against this kind of money, but we clearly had the hearts, minds and will of the people behind us. The vast majority of the letters to the editor and local radio polls have been anti-fluoride. The moment of truth is here, and it is sweet. We did use our resources (about $4,000) to mail informative postcards to the frequent voters. And, we brought Dr. Hardy Limeback all the way across the country from Toronto, Ontario, to present several public lectures. www.fluoridealert.org/news/2616.html

Dr. Limeback is currently the head of Preventive Dentistry at the University of Toronto, Ontario. He is considered the world's foremost expert on dental fluorosis, a sign of excess fluoride ingestion. He was one of the prestigious scientists who contributed to the National Academy of Science March 2006 report on fluoride to the US Congress. In a nutshell, he no longer supports fluoridation of public water because of:

1)      Lack of effectiveness.

2) Tooth decay rates have declined globally due to fluoridated toothpaste, improved diets and better awareness of dental health.

3) Fluoride only works topically to protect the dental enamel. There is no benefit whatsoever, and considerable evidence of harm, from ingesting fluoride. Most dentists still are not aware of this indisputable fact.

4) Half of all ingested fluoride remains in the skeletal system and accumulates with age.

5) Fluoride is an effective insecticide and works by destroying critical enzymes (G-proteins). This is how it negatively affects human health as well. For example, fluoride disrupts thyroid health by displacing iodine uptake in the thyroid gland and it also causes calcification of the pineal gland, which disregulates the pituitary gland, which is the master gland of the endocrine system. Pineal calcification is especially prevalent in teens, who are going through growth spurts. Fluoride accretes in bone, and bone turns over more rapidly during periods of growth. Who knows a teen with disrupted sleep habits? Fluoridated communities have higher rates of hip fractures, and higher rates of cancer.

6) Money saved from halting water fluoridation programs can be more wisely spent on public health education about diet and topical fluoride varnishes for those at risk for dental decay.

I had two pressing questions for Dr. Limeback.

Dr. Em: "Why are most dentists and doctors so entrenched in illogical and outdated thinking about fluoridation?

Dr. Limeback: "They are on a bandwagon. They have been parroting what the ADA and the AMA has been saying for decades. They don't have time to really study the issue and read the contemporary studies. They band together to save face. They believe in their own authority. They spout claims like $1 worth of fluoridation saves $38 worth of dental care costs. This is nonsense. Fluoridated cities and non-fluoridated cities have very similar rates of dental decay. Fluoridation causes very expensive-to-fix staining (fluorosis) in at least 30% of those chronically exposed. I recently treated a teen for moderate fluorosis: at the end of the day his parents spent $17,000 on restoring his teeth to a normal appearance. Without fluoride in the water, maybe this kid would have had a half cavity more, which would have cost $200 to fix. Twenty percent caries reduction, in a mouth with 128 dental surfaces, amounts to 1/2 a cavity. So the 20% improvement claim sounds a lot better that it really is.

Further, 50% of 12 year olds today don't have any cavities at all. This is largely because of fluoridated toothpaste, which was introduced in 1968. Many pro-fluoride folks will say that their kids' teeth are so much better than their teeth, and this "proves" that fluoride in the water works. That's not true at all. Fluoride is only beneficial to the dental enamel when applied topically. When fluoride is ingested, it actually weakens the inner structure of the teeth, making them more brittle. Don't forget the ADA and the AMA are trade organizations. They make a lot of money endorsing drugs, including fluoride. These are not bodies of research scientists."

Dr. Em: "I've heard the CDC is pushing right now for a federal mandate to fluoridate all communities larger than 10,000. Why? And why is the ADA pumping so much money into little Juneau, Alaska?

Dr. Limeback: "OK. You have to turn off the tape recorder here. (Dr. Em paraphrases: ) Follow the money. Dentists, and many doctors, largely stand to lose plenty of income when they serve Medicaid and Medicare patients. When dentists buy into the idea that fluoride cures dental decay, they can justify refusing to see patients who can't afford the big bills, or don't have insurance. It's shocking, but true, that Medicaid and Medicare don't pay for any kind of dental health. Dentists would prefer to pay dues to their trade organization to promote the idea that fluoridation is the most important solution for healthy teeth. The ADA puts its stamp of approval on that image of the triple-swirl of toothpaste on the side of the toothpaste box."

By the way, a toddler swallowing a glob of toothpaste that big could die. Even though the CDC now concedes, and has reprimanded the ADA of such, that only a pea sized blob of toothpaste is safe, marginally, if accidentally swallowed. A pea-sized blob of toothpaste has an equivalent amount of fluoride as a litre of water. Think about this: a little blob of toothpaste comes with a warning on the box: may be harmful if swallowed; call your poison control center immediately. But, no such warnings exist on your glass of water, even though a mere 2 big glasses of fluoridated tap water deliver about the same toxic dose. One part-per-million (1 ppm), which is widely considered the "optimal" fluoridation dose for water, delivers 1 gram of fluoride per litre of water. Teas, especially green tea, juices, especially grape juices, and most canned foods are very high, containing concentrated fluoride. It`s easy to get way more than the "optimal dose" daily.

Most dentists are not aware of the current toxicology studies. Doctors even less so. They are invested in being the authorities, and many get kickbacks from selling drugs as widely as possible.

Although this will be hard to prove, because of intermediate money-laundering organizations, I suspect that the ADA also receives money from the polluting industries which supply the fluoride to our communities. The industrial polluters are forbidden to dump their toxic waste into the air or the neighboring watersheds. So, they scrape down their smokestacks, bag up the debris, label it as hazardous waste, and sell it to us, enjoying one more opportunity to profit. They are recycling their toxic waste through us, the people. And while maintaining the illusion that it's all for the good, they hedge their bets that we will all be too sick to mount a massive class-action law suit.

One Woman's Astonishing Experiment With Aspartame

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/3/11/one-woman-s-astonishing-experiment-with-aspartame.aspx

Victoria Inness-Brown’s family was addicted to diet soda. After researching the effects of aspartame, she strongly believed the artificial sweetener might one day lead to their illness or even their early deaths.

So she decided to perform her own aspartame experiment -- with 108 rats for 2 years and 8 months. Daily, she fed some of the rats the equivalent, for their body weight, of two-thirds the aspartame contained in 8-oz of diet soda.

Eleven of the females who took aspartame -- 37 percent -- developed tumors, some of massive size.

Dr. Mercola's Comments:

A picture is worth a thousand words, they say, and the photos taken by Mrs. Inness-Brown of her diseased and genetically deformed test rats truly speak for themselves.

The fact that aspartame is endorsed by the U.S. FDA as a safe product, and is recommended by many doctors as a good alternative sweetener in lieu of sugar is enough to make you go speechless with rage.

But I’m not known for being chocked and dismayed into silence. Instead I wrote the book Sweet Deception. If you or your loved ones drink diet beverages or eat diet foods, this book will explain how you've been deceived about the truth behind artificial sweeteners like aspartame and sucralose -- for greed, for profits ... and at the expense of your own health.

The book took several years to write and I had five physicians work on it full time. It is the most comprehensive book on the market addressing this issue. I had to be very careful as the makers of Splenda had their NY law firm write me a 30-page long threatening letter telling me they would sue me if I published the book. It has been two years since the book was published and no lawsuits yet. I guess they realized when you tell the truth it is difficult to prevail in any litigation.

There is so much evidence showing aspartame to be a potentially deadly agent that several prominent, well-educated doctors and even judges have written books on the subject. H.J. Roberts three-pound tome Aspartame Disease -- An Ignored Epidemic is another must-read if you’re anywhere near the fence on this issue. Dr. Roberts' excellent article Aspartame Disease -- An FDA Approved Epidemic is also posted on my site.

Biochemical Warfare Agent in Your Food Supply

Does it make sense that what was once listed by the Pentagon as a biochemical warfare agent is now an integral part of your modern diet?

That’s exactly what happened with aspartame – it’s the poster child for unconscionable greed coupled with political power that may run as deep as the CIA.

That aspartame is a profitable business should be no surprise. As an example, the Maryland-based biotech company Genex Corporation went from reporting $14.3 million in revenues in 1985, to a paltry $2.8 million in 1986 after they lost their aspartame business. Genex had been one of the main suppliers of aspartame up until October 1985, at which time the NutraSweet Company began manufacturing the chemical themselves.

Sold commercially under names like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, Equal-Measure and Canderel, aspartame can be found in more than 6,000 products, including:

*
Diet sodas, juice drinks, and flavored waters
*
Chewing gum
*
Table-top sweeteners
*
Diet and diabetic foods
*
Breakfast cereals, such as Fiber One
*
Fiber supplements, such as orange flavored Metamucil
*
Jams
*
Sweets

It’s even found in vitamins, as well as prescription and over the-counter drugs such as Alka Seltzer Plus, and some Tylenol medications.

Food For Thought

One 12 ounce diet soda contains about 180 mg of aspartame, or 15 mg of aspartame per ounce, which equals approximately 4.5 packets of NutraSweet.

According to the industry-run Aspartame Information Center website – a propaganda masterpiece, if I ever saw one -- the Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI), as set by the FDA, is 50 mg/kg. That equates to about 20 cans of 12-ounce diet soda if you’re a 150 lb. adult, or six 12-ounce cans for a 50-pound child.

The ADI for tabletop sweeteners is 97 packets for adults, and 32 packets for children.

Based on the photos from Mrs. Inness-Brown’s experiment, using the equivalent of two-thirds of the aspartame contained in one 8 ounce can of soda per day, these ADI’s do not appear to be anywhere near “safe” limits.

The Aspartame Information Center’s “myth” section goes on to make this statement:

“Despite the overwhelming documentation of aspartame’s safety, unfounded allegations that aspartame is associated with a myriad of ailments, including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and lupus, have continued to be spread via the Internet and the media by a few individuals who have no documented scientific or medical expertise.

Recently, several governments and expert scientific committees (including the Scientific Committee on Food of the European Commission, the United Kingdom’s Food Standards Agency, the French Food Safety Agency and Health Canada) carefully evaluated the Internet allegations and found them to be false, reconfirming the safety of aspartame.”

Really, now…

Well, certain parts are partially true. For example, the Scientific Committee on Food of the European Commission did come out with a report named Update on the Safety of Aspartame in December of 2002, concluding aspartame was safe.

Whether or not the Committee could get an A for accuracy, attention and impartiality is debatable, however. This Independent Analysis of the EU report in question states:

“This response will demonstrate that:

1. Members of the European Commission Scientific Committee on Food have ethical and financial conflicts of interest with the food industry that should have disqualified them from participation on the Committee.

2. Members of the Scientific Committee on Food did not read some or most of the research papers they cited.

3. The report ignored independent research related to aspartame and instead relied heavily on and frequently cited articles in books and reviews put together by employees or consultants of the aspartame manufacturers (Monsanto and Ajinomoto).

4. Persons ingesting aspartame are being exposed to significant amounts of formaldehyde that has been shown by independent research to accumulate throughout the body.

5. Aspartame manufacturer-sponsored studies are designed in a way as to avoid the possibility of finding adverse effects, yet the Committee accepted these studies without any question. In contrast, nearly all independent research on aspartame in humans and animals has found that it can cause problems.

6. Human studies and clinical reports published in the medical literature linking aspartame use to fibromyalgia, seizures, panic attacks, mania, brain cancer, migraines / headaches, vertigo, symptoms related to depression, memory loss, hives, irregular heart beats, and numerous other symptoms were largely ignored by the Committee.”

The Aspartame Danger is NO MYTH!

Contrary to what the PR machine says, there is overwhelming scientific evidence that aspartame is exactly as dangerous as we say it is, and whenever you root around to see who gave aspartame its latest “clean bill of health,” invariably you will find ties to the industry.

By the Aspartame Information Center’s statement above, you’d be led to believe that Dr. Morando Soffritti of the European Foundation of Oncology in Bologna, Italy is a home schooled scientist with “no documented scientific or medical expertise” either.

But as Mrs. Inness-Brown details in her article, Dr. Soffritti’s 8-year mega-experiment with 1,800 rats, completed in 2005, is perhaps one of the most telling studies performed to date.

The results of his experiment also showed a dose-related increase of lymphomas and leukemias in female rats, observable at the dose level of 20 mg/Kg of body weight – just 40 percent of the accepted daily intake permitted by current regulations.

And what about the photos? Do they lie?

They show the visual manifestation of many of the common symptoms associated with aspartame, according to FDA’s own records, including:

*
Tumors
*
Eye problems, including: protruding eyes, retinal detachment, blindness and bleeding eyes
*
Partial paralysis
*
Spasmodic Torticollis (involuntary spasms in head and neck)
*
Unsteady gait
*
Skin problems and lesions
*
Obesity
*
Genetic damage and birth defects

I have a large assortment of information about aspartame -- its chemical makeup and biological impact – posted on my site. A good place to start is by reading the Related Articles listed below, or simply enter “aspartame” in the search box on my home page for more information.

How to Kick the Artificial Sweetener Habit

If you consume a lot of diet foods and beverages, it’s likely because you have sweet cravings (yet you think you are making a healthy choice by avoiding sugar).

Your body, however, is craving sweets because you are not giving it the fuel it needs. Finding out your nutritional type will tell you exactly which foods you need to eat to feel full and satisfied. It may sound hard to believe right now, but once you start eating right for your nutritional type, your sweet cravings will disappear.

Additionally, don’t underestimate the power of the emotional component of your food cravings. I recommend using an energy psychology tool such as the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). More than any traditional or alternative method I have used or researched, EFT works to overcome food cravings and helps you reach dietary success.

And, if diet soda is the culprit for you, be sure to check out Turbo Tapping, which is an extremely effective and simple tool to get rid of your soda addiction in a short period of time.

Last, but not least, neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, M.D. also has a great web page describing what to do if you have used aspartame, with tips and directions for detoxing safely. http://www.wnho.net/wtdaspartame.htm

Fluoride is Killing Us!

Please read this article and then you can go to www.berkeywater.com for a filtration system that takes fluoride out of your water!

Nazi Germany used to put fluoride in the camps water system to keep the prisoners docile, and to help combat pregnancy rate!!

Scientific American Has Second Thoughts About Fluoride

Editors for Scientific American believe recent studies suggest that fluoride raises the risks of disorders affecting teeth, bones, the brain and the thyroid gland, and in general “scientific attitudes” about fluoridation may be shifting.

"Fluoride, the most consumed drug in the USA, is deliberately added to 2/3 of public water supplies theoretically to reduce tooth decay, but with no scientifically-valid evidence proving safety or effectiveness," says lawyer Paul Beeber, president of the New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation.

Meanwhile, according to environmental reporter and director of New York University's Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program Dan Fagin, "There is no universally accepted optimal level for daily intake of fluoride."

After analyzing hundreds of fluoride studies, researchers found that fluoride:

* Alters endocrine function, especially in the thyroid
* Causes dental fluorosis in young children
* May lower IQ
* May increase the risk of bone fractures

Because scientific evidence suggests that water fluoridation is ineffective and dangerous to health, over 1,200 professional are now urging Congress to stop water fluoridation.
Sources:

* Reuters January 2, 2008
http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS108377+02-Jan-2008+PRN20080102

Dr. Mercola's Comments: www.mercola.com
If more Americans knew that fluoride, which many dentists STILL mistakenly promote as the panacea for healthy teeth, is also the active toxin in rat poisons and cockroach powder, I suspect they would feel vastly different about ingesting it via drinking water and toothpaste.

But FINALLY the tides do seem to be turning.

In 2005, eleven unions within the EPA publicly called for a ban of water fluoridation, over concerns that it may cause bone cancer. And in 2006, the American Dental Association warned parents of infants not to use fluoridated water when mixing baby formula.

When you begin to examine the evidence surrounding water fluoridation, this gradual retraction makes perfect sense.

As award-winning journalist Christopher Bryson revealed in his book The Fluoride Deception, there has been a multi-tiered effort -- or as Bryson says, an abuse of power -- by military and industry scientists and public health officials to shamelessly promote fluoride to the dentistry field and the American public with little regard to the implications it would have on human health.

Just what are those potential implications?

* An increased risk of bone cancer
* Fluorosis, a discoloring of your teeth and breakdown of their enamel (between 30 percent and 50 percent of children have dental fluorosis on at least two teeth in “optimally fluoridated communities”)
* An increased risk of osteoporosis
* Developmental problems such as lower IQ

But that’s not all. According to Paul Connett, PhD:

1. Fluoride accumulates in your bones and makes them more brittle and prone to fracture. Lifetime exposure to fluoride will contribute to higher rates of hip fracture in the elderly.

2. Fluoride accumulates in your pineal gland, possibly lowering the production of melatonin, a very important regulatory hormone

3. There are serious concerns about a connection between fluoridation and the current epidemics of both arthritis and hypothyroidism.

4. In animal studies fluoride at 1 ppm in drinking water increases the uptake of aluminum into your brain.

5. Counties with 3 ppm or more of fluoride in their water have lower fertility rates.

6. The fluoridating agents most commonly used in the United States not only increase the uptake of lead into children's blood but are also associated with an increase in violent behavior.

Of course, the main reason why fluoride is reportedly added to the U.S. water supply in the first place is to prevent cavities. Yet, data compiled by the World Health Organization shows no difference in tooth decay in countries that use fluoridated water compared with countries that don’t use fluoridated water. So not only is fluoride unsafe, it is ineffective as well.

Get That Fluoride Out of Your Water!

If you are receiving your water from a municipal water supply in the United States, your water is probably fluoridated -- and a simple carbon filter will not remove it.

You must filter your tap water with a reverse osmosis filter to remove fluoride, and remember to use this water not only for drinking but also for washing fruits and veggies, making ice cubes and cooking.

You can also join the fight against water fluoridation by supporting the Fluoride Action Network’s petition to end water fluoridation. It’s already been signed by over 1,200 professionals, including a Nobel Prize winner, three officers in the union representing professionals at EPA headquarters, the executive board of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, leading fluoride researchers, and medical, dental, scientific and environmental professionals from around the world.
