Vitamin D

I had a blood test and it came back that my vitamin D levels are dangerously low. I then found out that in studies almost 100% of people with FM have low D levels. Low D levels can cause hypertention, high blood pressure, increased pain, irritable bowels, and yes even FM. I then learned that there are studies that show people with FM that get 4000 IU of D3 a day can get a 70% drop in pain. I just started taking the D pills. If it works I'll let everyone know.

Mark I took D for 7 months now was taking 10,000 and now we are waiting for blood test to see if it's time to drop down to 2,00. Al I can say was from last year to this there is sooooooo much less pain, more movement.there are some great herbs out there that are helping people with pain...

LOL i too had a blood test that showed my D levels to be severely low, at best. i was put on 50,000 IU's 2x a week for 4 weeks. i haven't had a follow up blood test to see if my D levels rose, but i certainly did start to feel lots better :) i now take at least 2,000 IU's every day and i also try to get more sun *shudders at that last part....fucking day-ball in the sky, you hurt my eyes!* but i digress.... ;)

        Wow!
I don't think I've ever had my D levels checked!
        I know I have hypo gamma globulin anemia . . .I wonder if there's a connection.
        Research time!
        Thanks, Mark!

UPDATE- I've only taken 50,000 IU for a week now, but I, my lovely wife, and the people in the office have all noticed that my mood is so much better. I am still in tons of pain ( I started taking it at the begining of a flare-up and at a time where there is even more stress at work then normal), but the panic, and the dread have seemed to have gone away for now (knock on wood). I do NOT want to say that this is one of the cures I have prayed for for all these years, but I can say that for now my mood is 100% better. I'll post more as I keep taking it. Thank you all for your comments, and thank you to Rosie who not only showed me such kindness but suggested that I join this group.

      That's great, Mark!
I can live with pain. Panic and dread just do me in . . .

Wow, 70%! I will look into this as well. I know its hard for anyone to get enough Vitamin D these days.
Mark that is terrific about the mood improvements! with the mind and body so inherently connected, I hope your pain relief is soon to follow.
    :)
    Have a good day everybody!

UPDATE- I didn't know why my mood had been getting worse and worse and then I remembered that I hadn't taken my vit-D pill that week. I took it and the next day things were more manageable. Still no help with the pain but the mood is still 100% better then it was before I started taking 50,000IU of D3 a week.

The d3 is still working. I'm on 200IU a day and it has changed the way I look at things. I havent had to take a panic pill in weeks. Still no help on the pain front but at least I can think if I get some sleep.

I finally had my gamma globulin infusion and the nurse told me to take Vitamin D along with B-12 to help FM symptoms. It seems to be recognized as something that actually works!

So...it's been a bit over three months since the doc wanted me on 2000IU of D...and the count only came up by about 5%....so he now wants me to take 4000IU... and I go back for that test in three more months....
My white blood count is high... my liver "count"...is off...not sure which was I was tired...but he said from now on...possibly for life... no acetaminophen or asprin (unless it's a stroke/Heart attack) issue....
the doctor sat with me for 40 minutes taking notes and plotting a course... as he is leaving next week for his Mission... le sigh... I will meet the new doc next time...

So, today was the first day of the 4000IU...so we'll see how it goes...

My test were low also. The Vittiamin d really helped. What happens is we all feel so bad we don't get out in the sun like we should. The shut in life is what i know caulsed mine to drop so low. It took 6 months to feel better but the fog lifted alot.
    Who would have thought!
