currently one of the last major (new) (old) battles being fought by feminists (and religious groups and parents and politics) is the discourse surrounding pornography and more generally sexuality. one popular way to sum up current sentiment about the subject is the slogan : "Pornography is the theory, rape is the practice." what i am curious about and what i think is important to thinking about the discussion, aside from personal issues about morality and censorship (not including kiddie porn, this discussion is going to focus on consenting adult behavior) is what is the motivation behind people's desire to consume porn? one potential explantation could be grounded in the fact that in many states intercourse utilizing anything other than missionary position is a crime and in some places like boston interdigitation (hand-holding) is also illigal. despite all the controversy surrounding sexuality and porn as the misogynistic objectification of women and a practice that reinforces heteronormativity, now more than ever is the buisness booming!

another aspect is what exactly qualifies as pornography? there is the "erotica" genre that can be summarized as sex as art, which it should be in all its forms, from actual real life sex to sexual representations in music, books, television, fine art etc. some literary examples would be james joyce and jean auel (romance novels have their own genre). in classical art most of the feminine bodies are nudes. movies and television, not to mention advertising are all incredibly sex laden and yet are not labeled porn.

who makes these decisions and do they have the right to censor sexuality at all? if it was never censored or repressed people would be free to explore and express their sexuality as naturally as they do any other aspect of thier identity. the driving question then is who is pulling the strings and what do they have to gain from the repression of sex and the censorship of sexual desire?

no one should feel embaressed or ashamed of their sexual being and their sexual desire. why is our society so afraid of the human body that it seeks to create a sterile ideology with the intention to control every aspect of sexuality through the creation a very narrow conception of what is considered normal?

is it possible for sexual repression free society to exsist? im not talking about free love, but rather freedom of expression and experiance.

One of the most bizarre weather patterns known has been photographed at Saturn, where astronomers have spotted a huge, six-sided feature circling the north pole.

Rather than the normally sinuous cloud structures seen on all planets that have atmospheres, this thing is a hexagon.

The hexagon is nearly 15,000 miles (25,000 kilometers) across. Nearly four Earths could fit inside it. The thermal imagery shows the hexagon extends about 60 miles (100 kilometers) down into the clouds.
