Deliciously Poisonous, Delightfully Forbidden! San Francisco Foxglove Sweethearts, Directed by Jill parker Performed by Andrea Chrieghton, Sarah White, Joie Mazor, Tessa Myers, Jill Parker...Aaaaand guest artists. Foxglove sweethearts was created summer 2008 out of Jill's desire to work in a small group of top notch dancers, with possibilities for exploration outside the tribal fusion genre of bellydance. After more than a decade choreographing & visioning for Ultra Gypsy Dance Theatre Company, Jill wanted to explore an intimate collaborative experience with extremely well trained and versatile bellydancers, creating work heavily informed by traditional styles of bellydance while keeping her famous highly developed trademark sense of experimental twists in aesthetics & narrative approach to the form. Andrea, Sarah, Joie and Tessa are an obvious match with this artistic view and are each sumptuous stunningly beautiful performers & choreographers in their own right.
Women's history is elusive and poorly documented, particularly so in the marginalized culture/class bellydance, regional folkloric styles and roman dance comes from. Oral traditions, stories, dance and "womens'" arts are an matrilineage of tradition and have been passes along for generations. (Imagine that!) Through our use of choreography and inspired dance we somatically embody a living breathing timeless art, creating a connection to our past through modern lenses in our use of body language, innuendo, storyline, and artistic perspective. Witness the beauty of Foxglove Sweethearts! Dancers interpret music in sinch with one another in this intoxicating & joyous community dance form, a dance that celebrates women of every size, shape, age, ethnicity, & gender! We dare you to come appreciate the intoxicating and sensual art of a misunderstood & very misrepresented culture. You can expect to see great things.... Come see for yourself why! xo, Jill
