It's kinda difficult playing to this type of music. The rhythm of the vocals doesn't always match the percussion rhythm that goes with it.

Re: Can you name all the rhythms or counts??
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 5:45 PMI responded on the M.E. percussion tribe, but I would like to come in here and say thanks for the diversion! I love it when a bit of something new breaks up a mundane practice schedule! -

Re: Can you name all the rhythms or counts??
Fri, July 4, 2008 - 1:09 AMWell, it's in 10/4 as I hear it.
With the dums on the 1 and the 6 and the 7
It's broken up into fairly typical 8th note and 16th note embellishments.
It's beautiful and trancey...............kind of a 10/4 Chiftetelli in a way. -

Re: Can you name all the rhythms or counts??
Fri, July 4, 2008 - 12:52 PMwhy do you say his, Dave?
Just out of curiosity, this seems really straightforward and the Dums are consistent throughout the piece.
I'm always open to new knowledge, however, so do you know what this is, if my analysis is incorrect.
Not trying to be contentious but just really curious what your post means.

Re: Can you name all the rhythms or counts??
Fri, July 4, 2008 - 1:02 PMMidway through, there is a change to what I counted as a 14 (Faisal informed me it's a seven) and then there is a section of 3/4 or 6/8 depending on how you count at the end. -

Re: Can you name all the rhythms or counts??
Mon, July 14, 2008 - 2:18 PMBeautiful!
Here are the rhythms as I understood them.
0.00 – 3.01 - Samai Thaqil / Samai Taer
3.01 - 4.30 - Dawr Hindi
4.30 – 6.37 - Samai Thaqil / Samai Taer
6.37 - 6.48 - Jerky
6.48 – 8.09 - Samai Thaqil / Samai Taer
8.09 – 8.31 - Jerky
8.31 – End - Yuruk Samai / Samai Taer
And here are some references from the marvellous Maqam World website:
www.maqamworld.com/rhythms/...ai_thaqil
www.maqamworld.com/rhythms/...amai_taer
www.maqamworld.com/rhythms/...ruk_samai
www.maqamworld.com/rhythms/...awr_hindi
Jerky is not notated on the site.
It is important to remember that these notations are just snapshots of each rhythm. The rhythms are a flow which is why I put two possible rhythms for the three section – both could fit.
Now, if anyone could tell me what form this muwashahat is taking, I’d be delighted.

6.48 – 8.09 Yuruk Samai / Samai Taer - 6/8 or 3/8
