i spent the fourth gardening and washing the car and dressing my kid up as a young, gay, disco-gypsy for a party. and thought a lot about iran.

early in the day, it was reported that mousavi had been accused of being a foreign agent by a govt-appointed newspaper editor. this seemed like the first volley toward arresting him and possibly doing away with him. very depressing.

by day's end, a report came thru the NYT that a group of clerics in the holy city of Qom had itself declared the election, and hence the sitting govt, illegitimate, which is a major development revealing cracks in govt support and a very positive sign that any attack on mousavi would be seen for what it is.

now this morning, there's a report from Farsnews (related to the govt) that says mousavi's electoral staffs was based on erotic Lust. ?!?? personally, i find this highly complimentary, but i doubt that was the intent....

so very interesting to see a religion given so much power, and what they do with it. a real eye-opener for a lot of otherwise pious people, i bet.

we are so very lucky to have the freedoms we have.....

yes, i too spent a lot of time thinking about iran since i spent the wknd with my persian.

we were so grateful for all the little things we take for granted:

eg: being able to be gather in a crowd.
being absurd. (doesn't it seem like absurdity/irony/humor is the first thing to go in a fundie regime?)
fireworks (agreed; sparkler burns are the bestest!)
    ice cream

Well the 4th is only important for following the 3rd here but the day itself was fine. Still in a heatwave thats cooling slightly now. A local pub had a beer festival with a quite excellent local band. I had met them before and love they way they welcome people into the local music scene. Sunday was all about the ferret racing...oh yes...but I lost too much money. I always managed to back the sleepy yellow one that pretended it was interested until the last minute.
Sorry...not thinking about grand important things other than taking part in the community.

Ferret races? Now there's an idea I had never run into before.

        Brilliant concept though.

What could be more fun than a racing ferret?

I know, I know Bob...I was so excited. Probably more than all the local kids. They had to race through drainpipes layed out on the lawn. (the ferrets that is, not the kids)They didnt run very far 'though..just seconds. They came from a ferret sanctuary to raise awareness of them needing homes and all the money went to the local hospital childrens ward. It was a good day...17 excellent Ales as well to sample from small breweries.

            Dear Seal Lady,

I was once privileged to be allowed to ferret sit for a friend who was out of town for a week. It was a treat. All I had to do was feed the little beast, let him out of his cage once in a while to let him prowl and spray him once every ten minutes or so with this wonderful product called "Ferret Fresh", which made him smell a lot less like a ferret. No, I am not being sarcastic, he was FUN! Ferrets make wonderful pets and have the high energy to race around the house running into and under things and entertaining themselves so they really are wonderfully entertaining.

            Gotta love a ferret.

            With love under will,

...and Bob..the yellow ones really are yellow. Its amazing.

You know I made friends with a rat recently...a wild rat.I met it every morning on the way to work in the same place. A lovely rat..all clean and bright and lives in a nice clean green place. He sits out in the morning sun. Ive decided his name is Alan..he's so like an Alan.

"What could be more fun than a racing ferret?"

Cartainly not the pig races I saw yesterday. I appear to be constitutionally unable to thrill to the sight of the "...swiftest swine off the line" or the question, "who will be the next weiner?"

"honey, what she we do for a living?"

"let's buy a semi and set up pig races at county fairs!"

            "wheee!"

srsly, how does one come by such a vocation?

baby pigs are awful damn cute, tho....

and pig races provide a better simile than "rat race" -- all that effort for a damn oreo.

Orson Welles once did a series of commercials for Jimmy Dean pork sausage. He held the sausage package up, and in his deep voice, said:

We will sell no swine before its time.

why am i not surprised that this comes to us by way of arkansas?

one of the biggest draws at the houston rodeo which i used to attend yearly (before i learned about animal cruelty....and became a socialist but i digress) was the pig races. the winners got an oreo. they were supremely happy pigs.

oh and speaking of farm animals, the pleasure of feeding chickens cannot be overrated.

i just cooked dinner for 35+ with my neighbor and we had tons of leftover watermelon rinds which the chickens think is manna from heaven.
