So i know most of you bay area burners are out of town, but...

Ok, so i've decided that my favorite grad school is in San Francisco, and here's hoping they'll accept me. ;-)

But i need help, my sweet freebooters of fame, for i have only been to the bay area once in my life (though it immediately felt like home), and i have no idea where to start! i know the cost of living's higher than here, so apartment hunting should be pretty interesting.

The stupid google browse thing isn't working, so can any of you reccomend:
1) a Sanfrancisco tribe?
2) suggestions for survival on a grad school income?
3) insider info on the best and cheapest places to look for apartments? (the school is downtown, near mission street and 4th-ish if i'm remembering correctly...
4) any other advice you think i need? ;-)

Thanks,
~birdie.

lessee, we have nacho communion, our own pope, and a legendary cult figurehead founder.

are we a cult or not?

discuss, preferably with subpoints.

and oh, do we have our own hazing rituals?

Well now Tribe is back up and running...and just as I was getting quite good at playing ' connect 4'!!!...

I just wanted to share this little bit of silliness.

I recorded this version of a Dutch Birthday song for a Dutch friend's birthday and I thought why not try and do a daft video for it. Well the whole experience was so ridiculous so I thought you all might like a chuckle. Also I had never posted anything up on You Tube before. I only wished I could've sang with a Dutch accent.

Apologies in advance folks...this isn't sophistication....they are singing socks!!!

am wondering if shannon got her feelings hurted and is now boycotting us?

if so, how can we patch things up and if not, apologies.

we love you and your wittiness shannon and miss you ever so much.

how can we woo her back?

we've done odes to her boobages, so perhaps odes to her something-else will win her over.

we love you shannon; please come back.

please, please, kisses with sugar on top.

The Void (where prohibited)

I'm in that deep, blind panic that comes right before a project. I hate this part. It's the worst part of writing sitting down to do it. I envy theo intensely, up half the night chasing the sybilline hum of his own guitar strings in a half-trance, with such fine results. That's what it was like when I painted, way back when I was a kid. I'd paint half naked, because I didn't want anything in the way of what I was going for, and because skin was easier to wash than clothes. I'd shut myself up in my room an when I was done, it was cheerfully done, and I was so happy afterwards.

Writing is different, writing for the public, writing for real. It hurts like hell.

I'm about to put together a book proposal, for university presses I'm going to shop this thing to, and also for various grant-giving organizations, to fund time off so I can do it. I've thrashed and procrastinated all summer. Today was my day to get down to work.

I saw the whole project in my head and how to sell it--finally. And then, just as I was about to write it, somebody starts up with the chainsaws, or I have to deal with some domestic thing, and the whole vision crashes again. My head pounds, I'm irritable to the point of homicidal.

I sit down in front of the proposal I'd written a couple of years ago, ready to refine and revise. None of it is right anymore. It's so much better now.

I know this because just today, shopping for publishers, I ran across two books on topics similar to mine. They just came out. The authors' ideas--very similar to the ideas I've been crafting for the past three years--were referred to, in these very prestigious presses, as 'groundbreaking.' Goddamit. I had the same ideas. My ideas are groundbreaking. But breaking through the ground they've been half-dormant in is a major struggle.

Sitting down to write is blind panic. I sit still, I thrash. I go blank. My mind, myself, everything I am in my waking life, needs to move aside, for this thing to come to surface and be brought to light. The bringing forth of ideas into form is the annihilation of myself.

My job is to tell an audience of strangers, as clearly and concisely as possible, what I see and what I know and why it's important that they see it too, and make it so that everybody can.

To make that possible, the me that is me goes....somewhere else, so that the writing self can take over. Such, such deep peace when it does, but so lonely the journey there--solitude, isolation, self splitting off from self and ceasing to be for the duration, while the words come. I know they will come, eventually, and I will come back from the pseudo death, the death of the author that literary theorists allude to, and that the public nearly universally misunderstood.

I wish my gift were playing music, or painting, so that I could at least be at peace and keep company. But I'm only halfassed at any of that, and have to do this instead.

The Buddha-Bot or Big Budd Rolls in His Grave

Work gets weirder.

Two huge crates got delivered yesterday, each weighing about 2500 lbs. and sent from Japan. They are huge, 6 axis robotic assembly arms: Think of the welding robots on an automotive assembly line or the robot arms in the chase scene of "Minority Report." Yeah, and they apparently cost about 100 grand apiece.

What are they for? For the first time in 200 years, these oddly shaped Buddhist books are gonna be edge dyed and wrapped in saffron silk by a production robot and we are making those robots.

Lordy.

When I approached one the mechanical engineers to ask what them what the hell these monsters were for, I just ended up laughing and snickering "Yeah. Cuz that's what Buddhism is all about: production, profit margins and obsolescing the human hand."

No one else was laughing. The usual, but they are engineers, notorious dullards.

Is this project kosher or the biggest load of bullshit ever?

I imagining this as some Asimovian tale come to life, perhaps a future colony that developed robotics to enable a planetary cloister to commit to full time cosmic prayer.

class reports on our summer vacation

let's write links about where we are and what we are doing (did) this summer.

i wanna see whachall been up to.

like back in 5th grade when you had to stand up and tell the class what you did.

at fundie school, we also had to pick a favorite scripture to share.

my good buddy, whose family made a fortune selling the rest of us fireworks every july and january, picked the one about dogs returning to their vomit.

ahhhhh, 10 year olds' humor!

i'm going on a silent queer women's retreat this weekend.

how the hell am i supposed to be silent for 48 hours?
i've never been silent for 15 minutes.

sometimes clinging to my goal of "becoming the best buddhist EVER!!!!!!" is hard.

...but i'm having a hard time having faith in the human race right now. (friends, you can check my blog if you want details).

Suffice to say, i need a little reminding. Theo being happy has helped.
Can y'all give me some good news about the beauty of life?

Thanks...

ok, so i've been off a-wanderin'... making my daily papal bread preaching the gonzo evangelical word of psychedelic art to the masses at the music festivals across the lower 48 and now it is time to begin pondering how i'll blow it all in my annual 'torch a metric fuckton of money to be at burning man" ritual...

many of my friends aren't going this year for various reasons... lame theme.. lame friends... lame gas prices... desire to go elsewhere in the world... desire to stay home and play with running water and electricity...

so i haven't registered a theme or been on any theme related discussions... i have options so i'm not trying to pull the old "brother-can-ya-spare-a-theme-camp-space" trick... just wondering what others amongst the freebootery are thinking of doing by way of location and camping at this year's designer drug desert orgy.

rhino chimed in. anyone else coming to the playa? where ya campin'? registered w/ a theme camp or fending for yourself when you land?

I have helped Shannon into a pink, shirred corsetty thing, laid next to her in a writhing pile of peeps and people, and written entire stories for her, hoping fervently for an A.

I have lent Groucho my pillow, showed him my garters, considered crawling into his lap, and asked him for help with thermite.

I have drunk-dialed Theodoro and explained obscene phone call fundamentals to him while imagining he looked like a stockbroker.

I have adorned Mammoth with yak teeth and a viking helmet, and rubbed her fuzzy head.

I have asked Shady to essplain global money markets to me and looked for him at every Phil, Weir, Ratdog, Weir and the Waybacks, Micky, and other Dead concert I've attended since then so he couldn't weasel out of answering, to no avail.

I have photographed chandRa as she was being eaten by giant rocks in the desert, and am happy to report that she turned out to be indigestible to igneous predators.

I have stalked gÃNgst€® Bo¥s¢oUt in a totally non-creepy way because of my surprising and not completely healthy interest in his forearms.

I have engaged in a host of crude attention-seeking behaviors such as overstating my resemblance to a Frazetta and touting my goat-calling skills to Michael, merely because of his comment here:
http://people.tribe.net/shannonq/photos/9bea9bcc-504d-4091-a639-f71990d8a8e1

I have brazenly complimented Soren's septum cartilage, procerus, and nasalis.

And the rest of you... well, I'm actively giving you the benefit of the doubt *this very moment*.

But up until now, I have never posted in this tribe.

So the question was, how many different kinds of disillusion with the human race are there? There's the "disappointed lover" of humanity, like Swift and Voltaire... the "Sour Grapes" misanthrope, who disguises his inability to bond with others by affecting cynicism... the forthright "men are sheep ruled by fear" bully... there's the "wised-up wise guy", like the hippies who became stock market mavens... the Dick Cheney misanthropes who bully their way through the world because "if you knew what I know" you'd choose sides with the winners...

Ok kids -- I just got a promotion at work (yay me) which is, unfortunately, going to require a few sacrifices from me for awhile. No, not blood sacrifices. Well, maybe.... I haven't gotten all the details yet. ok, I'll get back to you on that.
Anyway - Training begins in about a week. I'll be in pretty intensive training for about 8 weeks and will have to study to get insurance licenses in 2 states. The tests aren't easy - a lot of people don't pass them so I'm going to be spending a lot of time studying and taking pre-tests.
The point is, starting in a little over a week, I'm going to be out of the loop most of the time for a few months, but eventually I'll end up working an even better schedule at work and making more money than I've ever made in my life. Hopefully then I'll actually be able to afford a decent computer and internet at home!!

I promise to be Birdie-like and pop in occasionally though!

Drusilla, Queen of the Freebooter Lurkers

i'm in constant search of new goddesses to add to my panthean (spelling purposeful).

while researching drusilla, queen of the freebooter lurkers, i discovered these tidbits:

she has more photographs than friends. this makes her a connoisseur.

she has biting political satire in the form of photo-archived culture jamming at the top of her profile. this makes her astute.

she has this distortion of an anais nin quote on her home page:

"Then the day came when the risk it took to remain tight in the dry, scaly skin was more painful than the risk it took to smash it apart nose first and scrape it off on a rock."

this makes her irresistible.

A comparative psychology of toilet bowls

The chattering penis thread having bent my thoughts in a certain direction (although I must admit that I had expected a discussion of penile marionettes), I would like to see if there is an answer to an equally intriguing and related question. Different countries each have their own geometries of toilet bowls. The Germanic bowl is waterless, a platform on which to contemplate the the way of all existence, the French is more champagne-flute-shaped, and the joyous fountains produced by the occasional dropping object far below the sitting line a simple expression of a light-hearted approach to life.

What then does the proximity of the waterline to the seat of the body tell us about the american psyche? And doesn't such a close waterline invite - and not just in the case of Groucho's impressive metrics - the potential for an unintended dip of inappropriate organ into what are finally perhaps not so inviting waters? Are american males unaware of this risk? And if not, what steps can and do they take to avoid it? Perhaps herein lies the real reason for their proclivity to circumcise: extra dangling bits are that much more likely to unhygienically hang lower than they ought to.

And as a secondary question: why do the walls of the stalls stop so far off the floor, and why are there such large gaps between the walls and the door? An unavowed penchant for exhibitionism? I have always been impressed how travel broadens the mind, and primes it to consider the deepest existential questions.

WILD LIKE A BLACKBERRY BRAMBLE!

...that's it.

OK, since you insist - my DJ alias (DJ Detritus - I'm headed straight to
the BOTTOM baby!) handed that up from the psyche last week and it stuck
around. I'm not sure that it is a tag-line, but like the loaded imagery.
And if you say it aloud with the right inflection it has a good rhythm.

But let's ave em - tag-lines anyone? The other popular one here now was
from my friend's 4 year old son, who started screaming it during the
exciting conclusion to Indiana Jones and the Crystal Commie Space-Skull
(seen at a real honest to goodness drive-in yep) so here it is:

"FIRETRUCK! FIRETRUCK! GO SPACESHIP, GO!"

...so...whatcha got there?...

my former lover just got dumped by her gf. i'm wondering if we have any dumped stories that would amuse her.

she's in agony.

she's still hot though so the thought of a rebound fuck has crossed both our minds, but my other lover is staying with me for 2 weeks so that's out.

how shall we console her?

i beg you, stories please.

Talking Penises

So some of you might know that I'm currently researching this funky religious cult that existed in my home town a hundred years ago. They are known for four things--the long hair and beards of the men, their dedication to celibacy, the fact that they ran an amusement park for over half a century, and their famous barnstorming baseball team.

My current research question--were the men circumcised?

The guys I've been working with, who run a museum devoted to All Things House of David, and literally stay awake nights debating the finer points of their illustrious history, quail at the thought of even broaching the topic. The question as to whether or not the leader really kept the colony virgins to himself for purification/defloration, the fact that they were underage, whether or not his wife was getting it on with her best friend--these things they will natter on about. Ask a simple, solid research question, and they're just wildly backing away. Apparently, it's the single thing they don't want to know.

Men, it seems, do not discuss penises with other men. I suggested that they take their elderly source out to a sporting event and check him out sidelong in the jacks. Out of the question. Men don't look. Men don't stand anywhere near where they could look. Other men's penises are apparently the single strongest taboo in American culture.

I checked this out with my SO, to whom most social conventions are stupid. He wholeheartedly confirms this. He said that he doesn't even know if his lifelong childhood best friend has been snipped, and really doesn't want to know. He said most guys don't even sit next to each other in movie theaters, unless they're brothers or lifelong friends.

So, you Freebooty guys are the coolest, cleverest mostly heterosexual guys I currently know.

What gives with all this apparently rampant homophobia?

Tribe's ads just keep getting better.

I absolutely *love* the Great Glam Clothes hoes. They look like the type of glamorous ladies that would describe themselves as "classy" on their myspace pages.

Thoughts?

And how 'bout this crazy weather we're having? *turns on little-ol'-Midwestern-Fundie-Christian-homeschooling-Mom voice* "Global warming is a big bunch of baloney. It's just a liberal conspiracy to keep us from driving to church and Chili's on Sundays."

Note to purists: I know that the correct spelling is "bologna."

I just came back for a walk along a little creek that runs beside the river here at my mom's house.

It's a pretty little creek. The road beside it is an electrical service road, so you sort of have to ignore the voltage overhead. But it goes through a nice tangle of woods: oak and sumac and maple and hickory, wild grape, boneset, jewelweed, purple vetch, thistle and butterfly weed, with deer grazing and young jackrabbits jumping around.

At one point, I crossed over a new-looking bridge, built on what looked to be an old railroad trestle. And from the posts below came the most deliriously delicious summer scent--creosote.

I love the smell of creosote. It reminds me of so many summer days wandering along railroad tracks, over bridges, leaning up against horse corrals.

Creosote is the smell of the summer gods.

So there.

(Now if only I could find some goats to gambol with).

(oh and shannon, i substitute real everything since i'm in cali now: i just go outside and pick lemons, limes and oranges. you can go to your farmer's market and squeeze your own. fruits that is.)

Southern Fruit Tea recipe (from my sister-in-law whose REAL name is Linda Sue).
INGREDIENTS:

* Tea bags for 2 gallons tea
* 1 1/2 quarts boiling water
* 2 cups sugar
* 1 (48-ounce) can pineapple juice
* 1 (12-ounce) can frozen orange juice
* 1 (12-ounce) can frozen lemonade

PREPARATION:
Place tea bags in bowl or pitcher. Pour boiling water over tea bags. Add sugar, stirring to dissolve. Let tea bags steep in sugar water several hours or overnight. discard tea bags. Pour tea into a large bowl. Add juices, stirring well. Pour equal amounts into two one-gallon jugs. Add water to each to fill jug. Refrigerate. Shake well before serving.
Makes 2 gallons

I use fresh organic limes and lemons since we had plenty from our trees. Anytime you can substitute - fresh is better!! And to go green and save on energy, try making sun tea instead of boiling the water.

It's been 7 hours so far of sweeping, wiping and mopping down a 5000 sq ft machine shop.

There had better be a some otter pops left when I get home.

technical question

and no this is not bad advice tribe so you better gimme the goods!

ok i'm pretty tech savvy (for a woman my age) about some stuff and totally clueless about others, for example:

i just moved my blog from tribe to blogger but can't get the two to communicate.

what gives?

is this another one of (oh joy) tribe's glitches?

or are they really incompatible?

i coulda sworn i've seen other folks who have an rss feed from blogger on their tribe blog.

or was my fruit tea laced with something?

i saw a mirage today that sent me reeling.it was parked on the side of the road by the river eating a sandwich as i was driving home from work. or maybe it was real but if it was it just doesn't make any sense. the problem with a mirage is if you try to stop and follow it you just walk on forever until you drop and fall to the ground and die of starvation and thirst. the irony being that that is of course why you follow it in the first place. i am starving and i am thirsty but i figure it's probably a better idea to go home cook a little food and drink a bottle of wine and then post drunk on tribe.

btw kids, tomorrows my birthday.

thanks for all the support guys. recent events have led me to the self realization that i need to stop being such a dork.
if you guys would mind taking a little time out of your busy lives to remind me to not be such a freak'in dork it would be highly appreciated.

thank-you,

witty repartee!

This has long been one of my subversions, as it would seem to be my fellow 'booters - just imagine reducing Dick Cheney to a blubbering mass of congealed phlegm from some old minor's black lung through the sheer power of insulting word play! Think about Dub...your three-year-old neighbor, left unsupervised long enough, could reduce him from the gibbering pile of feces that he is, emanating foul odors and nouveau verbiage, to the coke addled lump of mysterious "can't believe it's not butter" like spread that we wish he was - something to be scraped off your shoe with a stick and thrown onto the bonfire of our civil liberties! And that's just starting with the home regime...

All by the power of WIT!

so...with apologies for a post running only into code yellow on the wit-o-meter:

Vive Le Repartee!

IM IN UR HOSPITAL FAINTING ON YOUR CURRY

well, i fainted tues night DEAD AWAY but i was luckily 2 feet from my bedroom and my new (3rd and final!) roommate was wonderful. she's one of those mexican curanderas who's embraced california new age ideology with enthusiasm. previous to now, i would have made fun of people like her, however having been the beneficiary of her curative powers, i'm now no longer a skeptic.

ok, still maybe a bit of a cynic but i'm NOW HUMBLY willing to lay down quietly and do yoga and meditate and listen to my chakras with the best of them.

so i thought i was fine and went back to work on wed (luckily i work from home now - it rocks! i can get up and make fruit tea and be talking to japan in my sock monkey pajamas till noon which is what i was doing on wed afternoon).

both tuesday and wednesday i had volunteered harvesting organic lavendar (tues at lake merritt park) and wed in my cohousing community. now i have me some lovely lavender for sachets for linen closets. (orders may be placed at my website!)

wednesday afternoon i went to eat at the vietnamese place diagonal to my coho since my fave indian place which is in my coho bldg was closed. i started to feel faint so i told the waiter i didn't need sugar if i fainted. (i'm hypoglycemic so sugar makes me worse if i faint but lord knows some diabetes authority is always trying to push sugar on me.)

before i knew it i'd fainted dead away into my lovely coconut curry and the EMTS were surrounding me. i took a lovely ride up to the hospital where they ran a bajillion tests on me and blessedly finally let me sleep all day thursday. i'm back home now.

and itchin to know who mammoth's new love is.

i echo the sentiment that 2 hours is nothing if he's tall. my bf is 6'6" and it's no hill for a stepper!

Genius Loci

The Romans, being the efficient, bureaucratic people they were, had gods for everything. They weren't very interesting gods, really, more like functions--abstractions. There was a goddess of wheat, but also a goddess of wheat furrows. There was a god of filing cabinets, and one for navel lint. Most of what stories there were about their gods they swiped from other cultures who were better at making up stories.

But if there was a god for everything, everything had a god--or more precisely, a spirit. And so it was with places--specifically places in nature. The term 'genius loci' means 'spirit of a place.' They personified it, kind of, as an entity, but the term also refers to the essential placiness of a place, not just itself for what it is, but also its prevailing mood, its essence.

Places have indwelling spirits, but they also have memories. Some places remember themselves better than others. Most of California, for instance, has a serious case of geographical amnesia. The redwoods and the shoreline and the vineyards sure, they remember themselves. But most of it is unnervingly free of any human demarcations of history--except for Hollywood maybe, an exception all the more charming because its historical memories are all to do with cinematic mirages.

Its not that hard to see place-memories. Some people mistake them for ghosts--and they are, in a way. Fredonia, for instance, seems to remember the early 1900s particularly well. Certain days in certain lights, I see all the ladies in their long striped summer dresses, the gentlemen in narrow suits, gaslight and carriages.

Woodstock is so thick with the ghosts of the 60s it's like there's patchouli poltergeists hovering about the place. And the odd thing is, some of them are still walking, self-willed to live between two worlds. In the back of one of the shops, surrounded by hippie souvenir tchatchkes, was a pale woman with perfect curly waves of once-blonde hair, flower skin, bright blue eyes. She was at least well into her 60s, and looked like the result of a three-way tumble in the flowers between Janis Joplin, Galadriel and Blanche DuBois. And she was still deeply into the 60s, remembering herself there so intensely that she seemed to flicker in and out of this reality. And yet, when she spoke to me, her voice was clear and strong and casual, the way that people spoke back then.

But as I'm learning, Woodstock was never primarily about the 60s. If you know where to look, you can see the 20s flickering there too, and before that some woody 19th-century milltown, and before that that extraordinary rocky bright water that runs through its heart.

I like old roads because they are time machines--right back through to another time. It's still there--long avenues of trees that mark the Revolutionary War roads, railroad and canal towns, mysterious cuts through woods that go who knows where.

The trouble with studying history is that historians are good at proving that what we see when we think we see the spirit of a place is a nostalgic, Romantic American fantasy. There's been a nostalgia industry here almost as long as there's been a here. Once there was wilderness, and complex political networks of Indian territories. Then there was settlement, roads, industry, then there was instantly landscape.

The trouble with studying place-spirit is that 'spiritual' types horn in on everything and start personifying it and worshiping it and trying to get it to do stuff for them. I'm beginning to think that pagans are serious control freaks--consuming place-spirit with as voracious a hunger for spiritual connection as the developers of industry and tourist attractions (which happened at the same time in this country, oddly enough) consumed property.

A freebooter is maybe none of the above, or all of the above. There has to be a different way to go about being in the spirit of a place. Part of it, maybe, is that the land isn't fixed into one thing or another. It is undecided--between time and space, and between worlds.

i am utterly miserable in the california heatwave.

all you east coasters, and midwesterners and cheeseheads can rejoice you're not here.

ok, we have heat waves down south quite regularly BUT WE HAVE AIR CONDITIONING TO COPE WITH IT!!!!!!

i'm so friggin hot. i can't get nothing done!

all i did yesterday was sit around in my undies, take a bunch of cold showers, go to target and stand in the long line of PEOPLE BUYING FANS.

i'm in a foul mood!

even my lover coming over only cheered me up briefly.

heat makes me cranky, nostalgic, sentimental, unbearable, and naked - and not in a sexy way - in an old man sweaty way!!!!!!!!!

what the hell to do??????

Gods I love Mondays!
Well, not the whole "going back to work after a great weekend" thing.... but- I don't usually get online much (if at all) on the weekends. I really look forward to logging back on to Tribe on Monday morning and playing catch-up.
This morning I saw 103 new entries under Freebooters!! I've spent the last half hour reading over all of the new posts. Some highlights:

anthropormorphized singularities,
gbh cocktails,
"met the fap fappity Squinty Express at the bliss-stop this fine AM,"
Jemima and Butterworth threeways,
Wine-box helmets,
"the lace panty dub jig,"
dry-heave movie ratings,

*standing ovation*

You're all in rare form. Nothing like starting off my work-week with several great laughs and a good mental workout..................  =  -  }

I actually am. In the thick of the mountains, on the gently ramshackle, century-old front porch of probably the last funky and inexpensive inn left in the entire region. I have to sit very still in order to catch the feeble wireless signal they advertised on their website, but are apparently stealing from the neighbors or something.

The current owners are French and young and energetic. Also, the restaurant is open. Therefore, I am soon to go inside and have actual french cuisine in the middle of this either hot dog stand or generic NYC tourist chi chi but not all that much in between wasteland.

But best of all, I am drinking a chocolate martini. This is the second one I have had in my life. It is exquisite, and I am having it as a toast to Soren and Rhino.

Having a wonderful crime!! Wish you were all here!

but it was only two years. I graduated on Saturday amidst the cheers of family and friends.................a Master's degree in social work.

I have cried, felt overwhelmed, been disgusted, felt disenfranchised, spent long nights arguing the merits of humanity in a world that seems cruel and unfeeling most of the time, and bought stock in the local brewery............

I am the only person in my family to go to college, let alone get a Master's and I'm not exactly sure how I feel about that. I was raised poor in a scary broken home. We all chose a different path to rise above the stifling poverty and hopelessness of an inner city childhood. For me, it was education.....I felt like if I could learn enough all that pain and suffering would make sense and I could make some kind of a difference for others trodding down the dusty winding trail trying to find their way. Success for me is not money.........I like to live pretty simple. I'm just as happy in a tent with good friends as I am in a cozy house.

I spent many sleepless nights on tribe and found that it was a great way to escape, even momentarily, the pressure of research papers, lengthy readings about theories and models to promote social change, and mostly just to have fun................and not have to be so FUCKIN politically correct about everything.....................I was surprised that I made some good friends and felt comfortable sharing some deeply personal stories...............I have to say this is my favorite tribe as this is where all the coolest people hang out fer sure..............................

So...................long story short.........................I don't have any more homework giving me ample time to roam free on tribe and stir it up like a big fat spoon...........................watch out assholes.................................I'm comin to getcha :)

ok this is supposed to be the realm of higher technology right? so i just have one question. why the fuck does the capitol i and the lower case L look exactly the same. i mean : IlIIlllIlIlllIlIIlllllll. can you tell them apart. who is the geek mother fucker responsible for this? he's probably like 70 years old now and still lives in his folks basement with his hermetically sealed Star Trek memorabilia and just sits there laughing his freak'in head off all day long because back in the day he worked on the programing that determined what the exact pixels represent our alphabet and he snuck that in without his boss noticing.

This dream was about selkie.

I had ridden my motorcycle to some pub--the old fashioned dark and darts-playing kind, with a warren of little rooms. I don't know whether it was in America or England--I think it was somewhere in between. It turned out that selkie was there, sitting at a large table. She was both present and inside of a painting. I climbed across the table to talk to her (which was a literary reference. As She Climbed Across the Table is the title of a novel by Jonathan Lethem, about a physicist who falls in love with an anthropormorphized singularity). She was in the pub to get away from a bad marriage. We had a great girl-type discussion about men and marriages. I think I went outside then, got on my bike and sort of tried to avoid conversation with the laddish types who were standing around admiring the bike.

I woke up, but wanted to go back in the dream to talk to selkie some more, to see if she was really in the pub, or only in the painting.

Good morning all............ we're baaaaaack!

I'll have stories to tell later, but I survived my first Burner event, had a GREAT time, and was greeted by / fed chocolate martinis by RangerRhino within 10 minutes of being in the gate! = - )
What an unbelievably kickass community...... I've never been to the playa but I truly felt "welcomed home." Did I miss anything good?

I'll be back a little later to tell you a good one involving Rhino, Kamikaze Kelly, darktardism and an approaching vehicle....... *snicker*

One of the main things I've seen over there is a desire for more bad advice.

So I came up with that 5 minute marathon thing as a possible boon.

A couple factors are going on over there from my POV. One that specific tribe was mostly dormant
when we "took it over." So once it was established we could be free in there, the majority of
people hopping in to romp were us freebooters.
At first I was concerned about not wanting to draw activity away from freebooting but that has
worked out with no problem. On the other hand with the vast majority of posts coming from us
there is a lot of freebootery in our BA. Which also is NO problem except there isn't enough Bad Advice
to counter balance it....

So my thought was to start getting some more threads and more posts / traffic on the site. People
often come back to check on a site when they see there is a lot of traffic / posts since their last visit.
So I hope an occasional 5 minute marathon (i find that idea in and of itself funny) will boost traffic
and also by posting it as an event on other tribes I might get new membership and membership participation up.

cheers
Roberto

When our heart is in a holy place,
We are blessed with love
And amazing grace,
When our heart is in a holy place.

When we trust the wisdom in each of us,
Ev’ry colour every creed and kind,
And we see our faces in each other’s eyes,
Then our heart is in a holy place.

When we tell our story from deep inside,
And we listen with a loving mind,
And we hear our voices in each other’s words,
Then our heart is in a holy place.

When we share the silence of sacred space,
And the goddess stirs within,
And we feel the power of each other’s faith,
Then our heart is in a holy place.

Lucha Libre Presidential DEATHMATCH!

"Greetings, all, and welcome to the Philadelphia Spectrum Arena, for the first ever MIXED Democrat/Republican/WWE/ECW/WCW Lucha Libre Battle Royale Event. I'm Tony Schiavone, the former 'voice of WCW', lead announcer for this event, in what promises to be the GREATEST NIGHT EVER in the electoral process! I'm here with Jim Ross of WWE and Joel 'insert dirty limerick here' Gertner of ECW. Tonight, what we have is a mating of wrestlers with presidential candidates using lucha rules in a battle royale event that will determine the course of a nation. Celebrities from all of Hollywood, New York, and Nashville have traveled far to this sellout event that not ONLY will be in the true style of luchadors, but will also feature the trappings of the classic Japanese wrestling death match. Any commentary on this type of death match, Jim?"

Jim Ross: This event is a strange deal, Tony. The ring is surrounded with ropes, normally, but THIS ring has the ropes covered in three-stranded barbed wire. Wired to the springs in each corner is a switch that goes to a major league charge of C4 explosive in the middle. This is similar to the Death Match that Terry Funk and Cactus Jack fought in the Tokyodome for All-Japan Wrestling back in the early nineties........

Joel Gerstner: Yep, and that's one that Cactus Jack won before he started working for US, you moron sell-out..

Ross: Shut up , Joel. You're still a one-trick pony. Your announce skills are those of a Wal-mart associate.

Gerstner: At least I don't use the word "slobberknocker", you half-witted Texan wannabe......why don’t you get a new job with your NASCAR buttboys, you Jeff Gordon fan……….

***A fist fight develops at the announce table that goes back and forth while Schiavone continues.....***

Schiavone: While Jim and Joel duke it out, we'll go ringside to Michael Buffer, who flew in specially from Las Vegas, Nevada to announce this event.......

***In the ring, Buffer stands in his usual tuxedo, smiling only slightly, the microphone in his hand......

GREEETINGS, LADEEEEZ AND GENTLEMEN. Tonight, We have a unique event in sports entertainment history, which will directly influence the electoral process..... Instead of the debate which was originally scheduled, we have a MIXED lucha libra battle royale with Republicans, Democrats, and wrestlers from around the globe! To be eliminated from the match, the wrestler or candidate must be thrown over the top rope to the ring apron below. When the final two contestants remain, the C-4 explosives will be armed for the finish of the match. There will be no count-outs, no disqualifications, and there MUST be a winner. The special referee for the event tonight is no stranger to professional wrestling OR politics himself, having refereed for the WWE and having served as the Governor of the State of Minnesota, Jesse “The Mind” Ventura.

This match is brought to you by Budweiser, the king of beers!

*** (The Spectrum crowd GROANS – they’d rather be drinking Guiness Stout or a suitable microbrew)**

And now, for the thousands of fans in attendance, and the millions of fans watching on television around the world…………….LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeee….”

***Buffer’s voice fades as he walks from the Microphone. Ventura takes the mike:***

Ventura: “When the bell rings, wrestlers and candidates will enter the ring in TWOS from opposite sides of the arena. A lottery was held to determine the order of entry, for a total of twenty wrestlers and candidates.”

***The bell rings!***

Schiavone:

‘Running down the aisle from opposite sides of the arena are the first four candidates and wrestlers. From the arena entry aisle….it’s CACTUS JACK and BILL RICHARDSON! Cactus, who in his introduction, hails from Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, is seen backing up the current Democratic New Mexico governor in an unlikely matchup. Did anybody tell them that this isn’t a tag team event?

And from the opposite side of the arena, the dressing room area, comes Republican candidate SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN AND RIC FLAIR! These two geriatrics are both vying for the title here on the HOTTEST NIGHT IN THE BUSINESS! It’ looks like they’re also friendly. What gives here?

Ross: It’s like this, Tony…..Ric is considering whether to run for the senatorial seat from North Carolina in the future - he was a George Bush donor and fundraiser. And face it…..he hopes McCain is left for last. Then he can put him in his famous figure-four leg lock and scream, “WHOOOOOOO!”

Schiavone: AND THE MATCH IS UNDER WAY! **The usual circling of wrestlers occurs in the ring, and finally McCain makes a weak attempt to punch Bill Richardson, only to be blocked and bitch-slapped back into the corner. Flair and Cactus Jack go at it like men possessed! McCain hits Richardson with his ‘economic agenda punch’, and weak as it is, it serves to just make Richardson mad, as Richardson no-sells the move, and forearms Richardson with his patented ‘Albuquerque ironbar”. McCain staggers to the corner, chased there by Richardson…….and we hear Ventura’s gravelly voice boom announcing the next pairings **
Ventura: “NEXT CONTESTANT FOURSOME TO THE RING!

Schiavone: “It doesn’t look good at all for McCain here……the ex-Vietnam fighter pilot is………..YES! Richardson rakes McCain across the eyes, and while McCain tries to clear his vision, Richardson picks McCain up and pitches him across the top rope, where McCain lands on the Spanish announcer’s table, breaking it in half.

Richardson: Yeah, that’s right, McCain, you can keep flyin’ outta the ring, anytime you loser…..And I really don’t care if I destroyed the Spanish announce table, you dip….I’m bilingual more than you or your butt buddy Bush ever were……..I’ll translate for these fine folks……..AAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!! **Richardson is caught on one side of the head with a large iron pipe wielded by the ’darkhorse’ Democratic candidate, SHIRLEY FRANKLIN**

Franklin: “ That’ll teach you to shut your mouth when there’s work to be done yet, Bill…….”

Schiavone: THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE GREATEST NIGHT IN PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING HISTORY EVER FOR FRANKLIN! In Atlanta, she’s known as the ‘sewer mayor’, because she got the work done to take care of Atlanta’s infrastructural problem downtown. Now, it looks like she brings the same cold calculating skill in dealing with the New Mexico Governor. J.R., did you see the other three contestants enter the ring???????

Jim Ross: No, I didn’t, Tony. This has been a night of surprises already, and I’m expecting a bunch more before the night is up……***Ross’ voice trails off to a whisper as he’s struck from behind by Joel Gertner with a two-by-four……

Gertner: One-trick pony my ass you geriatric Waffle House denizen…..take that and put it into your ten-gallon hat. Hello, Tony….I’m back!

Schiavone: Joel, can you give us any hints on what’s going on in the ring?

Gertner: I sure can, Tony…..ooh, ouch….that’s gotta hurt…..{Franklin just hit Richardson with the pipe again……as Cactus Jack and Rick Flair exchange chops in the opposite corner as we hear the crowd go, “WHOOOOOOOO” every time a Flair chop hits its mark……). Oh, my God…look who’s sneaking around the opposite sides of the ring……it’s Hillary (I’ll tell you anything to get elected) Clinton and Sable!

Schiavone: Bill Richardson, already seeing stars from the multiple pipe strikes of Franklin, is now THROWN from the ring as Cactus Jack turns heel!!!! We should have expected that, Joel!

Gertner: You’re right, we should have expected it. I don’t know how many times he did the same thing to Sabu and Sandman in ECW…….TONY……LOOK AT THAT! McCain hasn’t given up, and he’s showing special guest referee Ventura the contract clause that allows him BACK IN THE RING TO COMPETE! Seems like he’s the only Republican in the match, and MUST be allowed to compete!

Schiavone: AMAZING! And now Cactus Jack has Shirley Franklin in a drop toehold…..and what’s this? SHE’S TAPPING OUT! She really IS a one issue mayor!!!!
