Earning a bike

topic posted Tue, April 29, 2008 - 12:22 AM by  Shari
I know that through your recycling program, a person can volunteer so many hours, and build their own bike for free.
is there any way one can build and earn a bike if they do not HAVE a counselor to refer them?
I really need a bike to get around......and have known about Freecycle Portland for years...
Thanks for what you are doing! You guys rock!!!

you may want to check with the actual Freecycle Portland group- which can be found at YahooGroups. This is a smaller Tribe version

I wonder if you are thinking of the Community Cycling Centers 'create a commuter' program.CCC is located at 17 x NE Alberta. I understand that you have to commit to a car-free year, and must have a referral from a caseworker, PO, something. So,its not for everyone. That said, they hook you up with a rebuilt bike and all the necessities, such as a rack, lights and lock, HELMET and rain gear, if you qualify.

And to be car free in the days of $4 gas..priceless!
