Okay how in the world do I break in to this community? This was my first burn and I sought out FC at BM and met a handful of you great people. Thank you! I really want to be involved with this group next year but I am having a hard time meeting more people as I don't think I made a good enough first impression with people since I'm quite shy. I feel this is a community that I could embrace with open arms and learn a great deal from (and am excited about!) but I'm feeling a little excluded when I request friendships with people I've, granted, only met once. But isn't that how community starts? One at a time? I want to know you people... knock...knock.

I wasn't camped with fc this year, and I was only at the burn for 2 1/2 days, so I didn't meet you. But it's actually quite easy to break into this community if you just show up at a couple of things. It's generally a super friendly group of folks. I wouldn't take it to personally if you haven't had much luck connecting with people on tribe lately, cause a lot of people are making an exodus from tribe since it's had so many technical issues. I've heard (though I haven't looked it up yet) that there's a new freedomcommunity group/discussion forming on facebook, and there's discussions about where the new "official" freedomcommunity discussion board should go. There were some thoughts about "openly" (another networking site, which I"m not familiar with), or perhaps facebook.

My advice would be to get on the facebook group, and check here as well, and start pariticipating in discussions and showing up at stuff. There will be stuff in your area that people post, and also people fly all over the country (even the world) to attend fc events. If you *really* want to get to know a lot of people well in a short amount of time, go to the symposium & event thing at the end of Oct., which I saw was listed on this tribe. Trust me, you'd be in like flynn after that. And it's very likely that other people from the bay area would be attending as well. And it's good that you're doing friend requests too - I imagine some of those will come through once they know who you are.

I've been around this community for several years. I don't come around as much as I used to, but I've watched it grow, evolve, go differing directions. There are always, always, always new people coming in and you are welcome to jump right in. If you have the intention, it will not be hard to get to know people.

    Much love and light,
    Catherine

      well said catherine.
yes yes: the more you reach out, howEver that may look for you, the more opportunity to feel connected. plenty to be learned through relatedness via internet, just like This; hence our tribe site (and others). ask questions, announce your interests, be Active.
FC friends are pretty much everywhere and definitely play everywhere, yet of course Not all the time. DO take advantage of listed occasions to gather, whether it be with a big group or another couple newbies kicking it around the corner. and of course it could be fun to create your own with online feedback and inviting others to join.
