Don't know if there is room for suggestion here...
but we were at VAG last weekend and the freaked out tourists weren't very receptive.
There was too much painful rejection for my poor little heart.
But anyways, how about maybe Granville Island market or Commercial Drive instead?
    Just a thought...

        oh, yes, please!!
Seawall sounds like a fantastic idea on a Saturday (well, in the rain not so popular I suppose)
        Granville Island definitly too!
Others too far for moi since hooping afterward on Sa

Sad to hear there were rejections at VAG...tourists, eh

well, i think maybe when you have a larger stream of traffic, you're bound to get more rejection. i don't think it was any more than usually for that location. but even in rejection, people will subconsciously think about what they saw and could have done.

and that's part of why i do it.

there's only rejection when you put expectation on other people.
not everyone is comfortable with physical touch... and that's okay. chances are you put a smile on their face!

the idea of vancouver art gallery is that it's central. we meet there... then we can travel where we please... perhaps we'll walk to burrard and take the water taxi to granville island!
      :)

commercial drive would definitely be more receptive... you see people hugging all over commercial drive... but i think it's important to bring hugs to areas that are hug challenged! :P

I don't remember any seriously huge levels of rejection...

and yah. the people who aren't into it maybe need some easing into a little bit of love... and you kinda have to respect where people are at in there lives, hey if i can effect someone by just being there thats great.. i don't have to TOUCH them...

its not really about me getting hugs... or me getting rejected.
then i think the focus is a little off when we internalize it.

I agree that for the time I was there I didn't feel any great rejections. I saw a lot of people who did not want to be hugged smiling. A smile also warms the soul. I think that it is also important to remember that we live in a very multicultural city. Not everyone is raised with affection and beyond that there are whole cultures that do not hug the way that many others do. I think that just by being there and sharing some loving energy we are impacting those people who feel that they cannot or should not hug.

When we are out hugging we are vibrating love and acceptance and that vibration is infectious. Even if we only gave one hug our vibrations would be touching everyone who saw us and everyone that they in turn pass that vibration along to.

What Free Hugs does is a beautiful, powerful and important thing, regardless of the number of hugs actually given.

Isn't Celticfest happening downtown on the 17th? Presumably there'll be loads of people in festive moods and ready for hugs...

So another idea might be to wear a bunch of green and head down to Granville & Robson to do some Celtic hugging (hehe, maybe that involves twisting our arms into crazy intertwined knots with the arms of others?)

and also, I am able to make it this time!! So, wherever the hugginess occurs, I shall be there :)

Oh I forgot about something that happened at one of the hugfests a while back. Someone who was organizing the parade asked me how she would get in touch with us to be at the parade. I don't celebrate St. Patricks day so I kind of forgot until now. So yeah, I think that huggers would be more than welcome!

      Heya...

Haven't made it out to a hug fest in way too long! Life has been rather... ummm...

I would totally be into doing hugs on Sat, March 17th at the VAG or at Granville Is.... I am actually there on Sat mornings usually for a NIA/dance class from 11:00am-12:15am... feel free to come drop in to the class and wake that body up for hugs! And I sometimes head to spin poi afterward at the VAG sometime btwn 1-3pm... so could, would be at either location.. either way.

On the CelticFest note.. here is the website.. www.celticfestvancouver.com/home.html and make NOTE: the parade is actually on the Sunday, March 18th.

Looking forward to confirmation of hugging event(s)!

      Cheers,
      Dolphin.

          Yeehaww, I'm all revved up.
I think I'll make a special St Patty's Day sign for extra groove.
I hope by then I can face my fear of maniacal-leprechaun-hugs.

Awww, afraid I'll miss it once again if it's on Granville Island this time...VAG I could definitely do though!
cuz I'm spending most of the rest of the afternoon at Robson square (hooping jam)
too much travel between places otherwise...

Have a fantastically huggable green St Paddies day!!
