For those cloth diapering (or did cloth diaper), did you use your own cloth wipes as well? I am thinking of doing this this time around. I know I can buy them, but thought it might be more economical to make my own. I am NOT a seamstress, I have not a clue how to do it...but I have a friend who is willing to help me out and she has a sewing machine.

If you have done this, what are your experiences? How many wipes do you think are needed in say....2-3 days time? Did you use a certain recipe for the "wetness" of the wipes?

Unfotunately, I can't give you any helpful advice but am interested to know the answer! Right now I am struggling with my son around diapers. We have even been using paper for the past several days because it is less of a struggle. He is so offended by the injustice of being whisked off and changed when he is busy doing something else. I sometimes will wait but since we're experimenting with solids sometimes his poop will burn him if it sits any time at all. Well, that's probably too much info for most, but just saying I'm struggling with this and really want to keep the cloth diapers but also want to minimize manhandling my son against his will. If we go to paper but could use cloth wipes that might ease my conscience a bit (currently using disposables).

i have extremely strong feelings supporting cloth diapering, so this is close to my heart. i used cloth wipes for awhile, but returned to 7th generation wipes, but it wasn't because there was anything inheretly wrong with them. i didn't do any sewing when i made my wipes. all i did was cut a receiving blanket into 16 equal squares. then i made a wipes solution out of 1 cup filtered water, 1 tsp bronner's baby soap & 1 tsp vitamin e oil. some people like to use a little grapefruit seed extract (gse), too. i put the solution in my peri bottle & the wipes in a box & just squirted a little on each wipe as needed. i have to say, they weren't the best for cleaning up poop. a benefit, however, is that you can use a wipe more than once for pee, just re-wet it.

I use cloth wipes - no sewing needed! :-) I just take old t-shirts (oooh - soft) and cut them into squares. Who cares what they look like? You don't need smooth edges on something to wipe up poop and pee with! They do eventually start to roll and fray in the wash, but then I just throw them out. I get about twenty wipes out of a shirt, so I've got plenty. I keep a supply of about 60 - I'd never use that many in a few days, but it's nice to have them on hand. I keep a spray bottle (not like a mister, a REAL spray) just full of water and just wet them down prior to use. If it's a serious mess that's going to need soap, I'd rather use the bathtub! So, just water is fine for everyday use.
